Well, since Coach J doesn't play defense or make clutch shots, a nice share is fair. Probably a bigger share than any individual, but to think it's all because of him is nuts.

Ben Johnson had to basically recruit an entire team. And despite a completely undersized front court....he and his coaching staff has managed to concoct a defensive gameplan to stifle front court bulls like Dickenson.

Lion's share is better, thanks for clarifying. Given the situation, he put together the right mix staff and players. That is a huge lift for any successful HC, but pretty amazing for someone doing it all for the first time as HC.

I agree with lion's share. I take away nothing from the players and the great effort they gave for 40 minutes. However, imagine if you will tonight's result if Pitino, Tubby, or Monson were the HC of this team. Yes, there will be setbacks and disappointments this year as the BIG is loaded, but it is a long season and Ben obviously has the team believing in themselves and pointed in the right direction, for sure.

I'm gonna go way out on a limb and guess that every fan base of every sports team in the history of sports has had fans who were completely wrong about a new hire and ones that were completely correct. It's the nature of the beast, the Gophers certainly aren't the first.

This team has been very fun to watch and early returns are looking good! The portal, whether you agree with it or disagree with it, allows teams to bring in some very very good players that just didn't fit somewhere else or were just plain looking for a new start.

Congrats to Ben and staff and here's hoping they can keep it going!! GO GOPHERS!!!

Dude, at the risk of being argumentative, why can't both be true? It could very well have been a largely diversity hire and still turn out to be a great, great hire, right?

Like, if I marry my wife because she was smoking hot, and she turns out to be a good wife and a good cook, that doesn't mean I didn't marry her mostly because she was smoking hot.

I just want to enjoy this as long as we can! These guys are fun to watch and today was flat out AWESOME!! Great job!!

I have been pretty clear that I am making fun of you guys, not the coaches. I said it clearly in what stocker quoted and said it clearly to you as well. Stocker08 may be mentally slow(and if it is medical or psychological I apologize) and has trouble with simple logic and grammar and you admittedly know nothing about football, but are hoping for a romantic relationship with PJ.

I support our coaches and always root for things to work. Whether they win or lose doesn't make stocker08 intelligent or change whatever your weird deal is. Their success or failures isn't going to change your problems.
 

Since the Tubby years it seems the gophers have overachieved early in the season only to fall apart. If we have a .500 record or even a game under in the month of February I’ll be happy.

Lazy recruiter? That literally is the one thing you couldn’t question Ben Johnson on. Lack of HC experience? Sure. Never really won big as an assistant? Sure. Lazy recruiter is absolutely ridiculous. Keep holding them to the fire USAF
 


See a lot of victory laps taking place. Just remember that if Ben was 0-9 the doubters would have remained respectful and supportive of the gophers. This thread would definitely not be a cesspool of negativity…
