Gophers Game Preview: at Miami (FL) [NIT] 3/19/12, JB's Jottings & 2012-13 Poll

Looks like it's a winnable game for the Gophers. Crowd won't be a factor, they're missing one of their best players. My excitement meter has dropped since the La Salle game. Watching the NCAA Tourney games over the weekend will do that I guess. Let's hope next year the Gophers can look back on this as a building block as they prepare for their game in the Dance.

My excitement meter has dropped also, but only because of the lay off between games. It'd be more exciting if they played the games back-to-back like the NCAA. That said I'll be excited come 8pm Central & this is exactly a building block for next year.

I was impressed with the La Salle game in that the team gutted out a win in an ugly road game, without Dre Hollins for most of the second half. Player development is obvious at this time. Dre, EE, Austin, all leaps & bounds. Young team, learning how to win.

I'm with you guys on the time between games comment... they'll play again Wednesday night if they can pull off the W tonight.

Against La Salle, Tubby played Rodney 40 minutes and played Chip, Mav and Andre Ingram a combined total of 10 minutes. Why do you think this was the case?

- Just the way the game played out dictated those choices?
- He's sending a message to those players?
- He recognized that to win you should play your best players & he felt this game was "important" to win?

He has to be aware of the feeling among the fan base. Then again, as soon as I start typing my answer, I realize he played Oto for 21 minutes and that was dictated by the the way the game played out. I was most surprised by Armelin only getting 3 minutes. Maybe we find out more tonight.

Is Ralph still out?

I hate to be a jackass, but it does not help next year's team to be playing any seniors right now.

It does if that senior is the difference between winning and losing. If Ralph sits and they lose, Elliot and oto get a few more minutes in one game, and who knows about foul trouble with Miami's sizable front line, but if they win with Ralph they will get another game and more minutes.

Miami is a lot bigger than La Salle. I'd much rather have Ralph out there than not.

I think Oto also played 21 minutes because he was playing very well. La Salle is a smaller team and Elliot couldn't handle the quickness or pressure of their center. Oto was quick enough to stay on him and have a chance on offense, but was also physical and mean enough to not get abused on the block. Oto was the perfect guy to play there. Plus, it hopefully helps him get more comfortable as we will need his shooting.

Ha, now I'm starting to get excited about the game!

In Miami's first round NIT game, a victory over Valparaiso, just 1,229 were on hand in Coral Gables, FL.

Miami was on Spring Break last week, so they'll probably have a bigger crowd tonight.

Saw Ralph on a milk carton at Cub. He's been MIA for 4 years.

2nd 5 goes in game 0-10 run the other way...... Mav need not dress for games.

This is the Rodney we've all been waiting to see. Frustrating that he doesn't show this aggressiveness every night. Imagine if we'd get this type of effort every night next year? And if Trevor gets another year? Now that would be fun to watch!

why are we running a big10 offense against a D that is JV quality? we should have 50. there are gaps everywhere... drive, drive, drive...

A 1000+ point scorer has been missing for 4 years? That's good to know!
A 4 year starter, 7 feet tall, who averages about 8 ppg and 2 FTs per game over his career. If that's not disappointing, I think we need to raise the bar a little.

Half: MN 35-23. eFG MN 63.0% MIA 30.8%; TO% MN 31% MIA 18%; OR% MN 25%, MIA 20%

A player who was recruited to be a finesse guy, as opposed to Colton Iverson's bruising physicality. It's not disappointing, it's who we expected him to be. Granted he could definitely have put up more points, but I'm not going to complain about his 1000 points at all.
