Gophers are expected to hire Stanford defensive coordinator Bobby April as its new rush ends coach.

Yes it is called something different -- outside linebacker or defensive end.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but guessing we're the only P4 team in the country with a coaching title called a "Rush Ends coach". On the other hand, would not be surprised if a lot of teams have fulltime coaches who are the OLB or DE coach.

It's Fleck. He probably spends an hour a day writing down ideas for new terms or slogans in a little notepad.
You're wrong.

Back in the 80s we had an interior DL coach and a rush LB/DE coach. It’s nothing new. Check out the list of coaches sometime between them and the administrative staff. There’s like 30 folks on PJ’s staff.

That said, with all the knuckleheads on here crying about how poor we are and how we can’t afford to pay assistant coaches Coyle probably dug through his couch cushions for spare change to pay this guy.
There’s probably double the people on Ohio States staff. We are poor by comparison to the upper half of the conference. I love this hire though!

Are you trying to sound like a moron or is it accidental?

Jesus. Are you Heather's first husband? The amount of angst you have towards PJ is absurd.

Yes we have more money than we did in the 90s, so does everyone else. Doesn't change that Iowa has $3 million dollars to spend on assistant coaches every year and that were still bottom three in the big ten. But if it helps you feel better to pretend we are rich, kinda like how our President pretends that the economy is good and prices are lower than go on ahead.

And having Nostradamus(Gopherchase)of the board tell us that Fleck could be paying these guys half what he is paying. I didn't know we had a member of the staff in this forum.
If PJ fired either our OC or DC their next job would pay them at least 250 K less, true. Gotta give credit to the DC he had the fellas ready to rock ‘n’ roll in the bowl game and during the Wisconsin game for sure.

Considering Collins raise when he was promoted to DC was less than $250K, and his track record as a safety coach, it wouldn't shock me if he got the same amount of money at a helmet school to coach safeties that he's getting here as a DC.

Some guy, you are a smart guy, that I have no doubt after reading a lot of your posts. You've likely forgotten more about football than I know.

So, I have no doubt that you'll immediately be able to point me to which NFL teams employ a "Rush Ends coach" on their staffs.

:)

You're wrong.

Dang, you got me.

Indeed, the guy that helped Fleck install a "Rush ends coach", Rossi, took that term with him to Michigan State.

That for sure proves that it isn't just a Fleck-ism. Dead to rights

How about any of the other (co-)defensive coordinators that Fleck had the past few years? They, too?

Anyone outside Fleck's tree? Any NFL teams?

The Vikings literally have two DL coaches…
You really think they both coach all 4 positions? Or do you think they have an area of focus?

You’re really doubling down on your take?

Huh?

None of my posts in this thread was ever challenging the idea of having two DL coaches. That is not at all the point I'm challenging.

I'm only talking about having the second coach be called a "Rush Ends coach" instead of a OLB coach or DE coach.

Oh so you’re talking about absolutely nothing, got it.

And when confronted with evidence that proves you’re wrong…that evidence doesn’t count

Mpls gopher is that you?

It's a minor annoyance, is all.

As you often tell others: no one forced you to read it, or comment on it

Was that a rhetorical question?

He did not confirm or deny it’s him.
Between saying it’s ridiculous to have a DE coach and him saying the reason people watch college football is primarily because people are seeking degrees it is two very MpLS vibes posts in 24 hours

For the record:

Not a single post on this thread of mine says its ridiculous to have a DE coach. It isn't ridiculous and many teams at high levels do it. I support it.

I don't even know if I would say it is ridiculous to re-label a DE or OLB coach as "Rush ends coach". But it is definitely a Fleck-ism, very much on brand.

no you’re wrong.
NOBODY has rush ends except fleck.

So far to my knowledge (thanks Greek!), only Minnesota and Rossi at Michigan state have a Rush Ends coach.

It's within the realm of possibility for others to exist.

Many others (NFL and P4) have DE coaches and OLB coaches, which I never denied.

Thanks for clearing that up!
I am glad you have at least partially accepted reality

You have conceded the point that there are rush ends coaches at more than Mn
