Because of the Gophers late arrival home from Las Cruces, NM - coach Kill didn't leave for home until 4:30 a.m. - his appearance on today's Sports Huddle didn't occur until 11:30 a.m. instead of the usual time slot of 9:30 a.m. Coach Kill sounded tired and had a raspy voice.

1) Sid opened asking about the game and whether or not he was happy with the Gophers play: Kill responded, "kids did a good job . . . extremely hot . . . got off to a good start . . . I don't think we closed like I wished we would . . . Bottom line - we won and are 2 and 0."

2) Sid asked about New Mexico completing a lot of passes: Kill said the Aggies were throwing quick "pop" passes and bubble screens. They (Gophers) frequently allowed 3 or 4 yards and quickly made the stops. He closed saying the Aggies treated the short passes like runs.

3) Sid asked about Nelson's play: Kill replied, "He played well - I thought . . . read the keys on the options . . . three or four passes dropped."

4) Sid said Roderick Williams is a good back (probably one of the better ones of recent times): Kill said, "Roderick and David Cobb ran well, yesterday . . . Roderick is a physical kid." Kill sounded pleased with the Gopher running game against New Mexico.

5) Sid asked if he was happy with the defense: Kill said Defense Coordinator Tracy Claeys was not happy when the defense gave up a touchdown just before the end of the first half. Kill then said the defense struggled when someone didn't do his job (being out of position or make the tackle). He didn't sound happy with some of the plays that were given up. He said they'd like to have 8 or 10 plays back and played correctly.

6) Sid asked about the play of wide receiver Logan Hutton: Kill said Logan played last week and did a good job last night. Kill then said they played 6 or 7 receivers last night. He said it was long road trip and very hot during the game. He said the players are tired and they won't have a team meeting until 4:00 o'clock this afternoon.

7) Dave Mona asked about Briean Boddy-Calhoun's injury: Kill was rather quiet when he spoke about Brody-Calhoun's injury, he said flatly, "Knee injury." He went onto say staying healthy is a big concern and then mentioned the following players: "Donnell (Kirkwood) is moving better." Ed Olson has an ankle injury and that Nick Rallis is battling the effects of mono.

8) Sid asked another question about the game: Kill said they settled down after the Aggies first drive. He also said they played a lot of new faces who had never played on the road. He also said it was the first airplane trip for some of the players.

He closed the question by saying, "Take 8 or 10 plays out of the game, we'd be happy."

9) Dave Mona asked about the kicking game: Kill sounded pleased with the team's place kicking, punting and special team play. He said, "Chris Hawthorne had his best day (said Hawthorne was kicking the ball high and deep) . . . Pete (Mortell) punted well." He then mentioned Marcus Jones' punt return "to the house." He said there was excellent blocking on the return and specifically mentioned Logan Hutton.

Kill's radio appearance was rather brief and his responses were quick and short. Again, he sounded quite tired.

Go Gophers!!

I bet he is tired. Good for coach to even do the interview but you have to worry about him pushing too hard. Did Mason and Brew even do the interview after a road trip?

Great recap! Thank you for doing this each week

I was thinking the same thing. Plus, it has been two high temp games in a row, which had been mentioned as a contributing seizure factor two years ago. The good news is Kill's overall health appears to be as good as it has been since his arrival.

Ditto on Kill's health. Hang in there, coach. You're our best hope since Holtz left town. DL comes through big time again. Thanks, DL.

BBC's injury sounds like it could be bad. MRI coming. Alex Keith broke his hand. That too could be a big loss.

Thanks for the recap DL

I would not assume the worst on either. Some ligaments sprains are very painful, but don't put a kid out for the year.

At least on defense you can play with a broken hand.

I'm really high on BBC so this sucks, but we'll wait & see how bad it is. That said, we're in a unique position (for us) where we have depth at the position & would still roll out Wells, Murray & Shabazz which is a legitimate B1G starting 3 imo. Filling in behind them we have Myrick & Balthazar (Is he healthy?) + enough depth at Safety that we could even move Vereen back to CB in a worst case scenario.

Also, BBC should get a medical redshirt if the knee is serious because he transferred from a Juco playing immediately & he played less than 2 games this season (please correct me if I'm wrong on this?). That would mean instead of Wells & BBC graduating together, that Wells would leave & due to his medical redshirt season BBC would be a Sr at the same time as Murray, with Myrick as a Jr behind them).

Feels good.

Doesn't sound good. Did they announce there was going to be a 2-hour delay early on?

Yeah, but for the couple of well known game day seizures last year, the respective game time temps were around 50 degrees and 25 degrees, respectively. Stress and lack of sleep are likely real contributors.

Gopher Warrior -

I was notified prior to the start of the Sports Huddle that Coach Kill would be on at 11:30 a.m. instead of 9:30 a.m. because of the late arrival home from Las Cruces. I posted the same on GopherHole's football forum prior to show's start. Dave Mona mentioned the change when the show started and periodically until the 11:30 a.m. segment with Coach Kill.

Go Gophers!!

Ryan Burns just tweeted that BBC tore his ACL, MCL, and slightly tore his PCL.

Let's see. Game gets over at 10 MT, 11 CT and they fly back to the TC at 4:30 AM. Must be the epilepsy.

Woah. Careful now. Are you sure we're allowed to say that word? Next thing you know, people will start acknowledging that epilepsy can cause death and that many believe it causes more deaths than breast cancer.

Maybe people will even acknowledge SUDEP or talk about the Partners Against Mortality in Epilepsy conference that's planned for Minneapolis next summer.

"It doesn't really concern me that much. Regardless of Jerry's health, we're making progress in this program...You don't want to downplay it, but you get to the point where you start realizing that it's just something that you have to deal with at times. You don't want to say it's not that big of a deal, but in a way, it's easy to deal with in a lot of ways." - Norwood Teague

Whoa. Maybe it was just sleep deprivation. A late game MDT and a 3 hour plane ride after will do that.

Whoa. Maybe it was that he was tired.

Whoa. Maybe you shouldn't keep thinking every time Coach Kill sighs that he's going to seize.

Whoa.

Whoa.

Come on, what's your point? He comes on late because of a health problem? I guess I would just give him time to get a couple of hours of sleep after arriving in town 4 hours before the segment.. Like an adult. Geesh.

Yes, highway man. But that makes way too much sense for GW. Remember he is paid to be here to stir things up, be contrarian, and an as$clown. The down side of donating to the site is the thought some of it goes to him. Let me know if I am wrong about that.

God bless Coach Kill, I hope he's feeling well soon after this latest public seizure.

Obviously stress has been a trigger for him and he and the U say they are comfortable with that, but at some point he may reconsider. I appreciate his tenacity, but I worry more for his health and well being than what he does to help the football program.

Epilepsy can be a lot more serious than most think. And certainly a lot more serious than Norwood Teague's comments would indicate.

Get well, coach!

How thoughtful of you! I am so grateful that you are just looking out for Coach Kill's health!

It's so relieving to see someone like you just looking out for him when there are other guys on this board who just want to be right and are dicks about it. In fact, there was even been one outspoken guy who simply went onto the gameday thread to post this comment!

...sigh...

Can you believe that?! This guy was obviously just trying to pat himself on the back and say I told you so in the middle of all this as his comment clearly added nothing else. It's refreshing to know that you would never post anything like that though since you are only worried about Coach Kill.

Thank you for being so kind and thoughtful GW!
