new roster is up.

Salazar, 5th year, moves up to 197

what is the likely lineup?

125. Cooper Flynn. 11
133. Tyler Wells. 10
141. Vance VomBaur. 8
149. Drew Roberts. 24
157. Tommy Askey. 9
165 Andrew Sparks. 13
174. Sam Skillings Clayton Whiting. 13
184. Max McEnelly. 10
197. Isaiah Salazar. 6
HWT. Bennett Tabor. 24

thinking Charlie Millard might break through at 157. 197 crowded. Does Sparks have anything left?

edit: added flowrestling's preseason rankings

Thanks for posting this. I still expect to see our HWT ranked #1 every year after our history of greatness at that weight.

With Steveson back at HWT the gophers pick up probably about 30 points in the tournament rankings (to probably 5th just behind Va Tech) come the next intermat rankings - which i believe come out on tuesdays.

Nov 19 intermat rankings, includes Gable:

125. Cooper Flynn. 14
133. Tyler Wells. 8
141. Vance VomBaur. 5
149. Drew Roberts. 22
157. Tommy Askey. 7
165 Andrew Sparks. 10
174. Clayton Whiting. 25
184. Max McEnelly. 10
197. Isaiah Salazar. 7
HWT. Gable Steveson: 1

team tournament rank: 5 up from 11

They're two elite wrestlers away from contending for the NCAA Championship.
I see this lineup having the potential of finishing as high as 2nd, if each guy wrestles to their highest potential. Unfortunately I can't see them beating everyone or matching their 10 All-Americans season, and on the low end, they could finish as low as 13th, but I predict a 5th place finish.

Very impressive win over SDSU today with Flynn upsetting a top five guy and McEnelly and Salazar
Both winning top ten bouts.

Anyone know why Millard wrestled for Askey at 157? I know he beat his guy earlier this year at Daktronics so not sure if that played into it. We might have two top 15 ranked guys in the same weight class…

Gophers lose to a solid but very beatable NE squad after getting zero points from their top seven (7) weights.

Gable toyed with his prey, Salazar rode his guy like a rented mule and McElleny showed that he's going to be a real problem for any opponent. He was really impressive.

It's strange but nearly all of the point scoring in college wrestling seems to have shifted to the heavier weight classes.

i think the team just went through several cases of the flu. might be several wrestlers are still getting their strength back. .about a dozen wrestlers had to drop out of the soldier salute two weeks earlier

Charlie Millard strikes again, winning the cyclone open and beating the 8th ranked wrestler.

Charlie Millard strikes again, winning the cyclone open and beating the 8th ranked wrestler.
He's currently ranked higher (8th) on WrestleStat than our "starter" at 157, who was an AA last year (Askey is rated 14th).

We're going to really miss not adding Robideau into the pipeline but should be able to hold our rank next year, at least for duels. I know Hopke is being redshirted this year and isn't wrestling at all (injury?) so his development will be key. Excited to see Millard at 157, Hopke at heavyweight and Nelson at 197 next year.

Great win last night at Ohio State. Team seems to be peaking. Hope they can give Iowa a run next Friday

Iowa @ MIN tonight at 8:00pm on BTN. This program could really use a victory to enhance it's recruiting swag but it won't be easy.

Go Gophers!!!

Probable lineups tonight
Weight: Minnesota vs Iowa
125: #13 Cooper Flynn vs #26 Joey Cruz
133: #19 Tyler Wells vs #3 Drake Ayala
141: #8 Vance VomBaur vs Cullan Schriever
149: #29 Drew Roberts vs #3 Kyle Parco
157: #8 Tommy Askey vs #3 Jacori Teemer
165: #11 Andrew Sparks vs #2 Michael Caliendo
174: #22 Clayton Whiting vs #11 Patrick Kennedy
184: #4 Max McEnelly vs #8 Gabe Arnold
197: #8 Isiah Salazar vs #1 Stephen Buchanan
Hwt: #1 Gable Stevenson vs #11 Ben Kueter

Minnesota only has the higher ranked wrestler in 4 of the 10 matches, meaning we need:
A) At least 1 upset (Tough to see where that could be....157? Teemer has been slowed by an injury this season)
B) More bonus points in our victories. (125, 141 and Hwt are our best bets)

Good stuff, Darren.

Sparks at 165 has really been finding his offensive groove so he's my hope for an upset, as unlikely as it may be against Caliendo. McElleny is my favorite guy to watch on the team and 184 should be absolute fire against Arnold. Good call on best chances for bonus points, too.

Go Gophers!!!

Terrible loss by Flynn in the opener. This dual might be over after one match

Clear from the start that Teemer was going to not engage and rely on just having enough to get one takedown in 3rd. Askey needed to engage much more aggressively but nope....Eggum just has him dance around too and sure as God made green apples, Teemer gets the takedown with 30 seconds left.

Very disappointed in Eggum. Same old story whenever we face Iowa.

looks like the gophers will battle it out with OSU for 4th. NEB has 6 3 seeds. NEB would have to have a terrible tourney and the gophers and exceptional tourney for the gophers to finish higher than NEB

Drew Roberts is the only gopher seeded outside the big ten pre allotments for the NCAAs

We wrestled poorly in the dual against NE but we have enough talent to finish ahead of them. I agree with you that 4-5 is most likely, though. Thanks for posting the link.

Cooper Flynn never got off the bus and Salazar needed a late comeback to avoid another Gopher upset.

Vombaur, Askey, McEnelly and Gable only Gophers in the Semis.

I stand corrected...NE is really bringing it this weekend.
