I might not get it 100% right but I did laugh at Coyle "money might not be everything, but its really close to oxygen" ha Well said, people seem unwilling to admit it but money is everything. If you have it (and spend it) you win, if not you lose. Doesnt matter if its pro or college, that is simply the facts.

"Bitter, bitter Washington fan" says: oh yeah, Minnesota really was a major contributor to Big Ten football and where all these huge TV dollars are coming from to be able to pay that much for a volleyball coach, yeah completely fair for a school like Minnesota to get that free ride over a school like Washington.

My reply: 🤷‍♂️

2023 and 2024 are going to be awesome years! They are on a path to reach higher, the highest levels yet. The much-honored players are anchored by star Taylor Landfair. Look for Minnesota to reach the highest levels in school history.

Landfair won Big Ten Player of the Year in 2022.

Landfair was named All American.

Landfair was the #1 prospect in the nation coming out of high school per Prep Volleyball and VolleyballMag.com

Carter Booth had one of the greatest rookie seasons in Minnesota history, leading the team and ranking sixth in the conference in blocks per set (1.41). Booth was also selected to the All-Big Ten Freshman team.

Melani Shaffmaster was named All Big Ten First Team.

Mckenna Wucherer was All-North Region Honorable Mention and Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Then the team is deep with talent. Minnesota is loaded. This is an opportunity to climb over obstacles to the best finish yet. More talent is incoming too, including Calissa Minatee and Sydney Schnichels. Next season's top elite prospect in Minnesota Stella Swenson has already committed to Minnesota too -- plus her ace twin sister Olivia Swenson too!

Minnesota is a preferred elite destination.

And the new coach? Players stay when they play for coach. Coach's players haven't entered the transfer portal.

Keegan Cook's 8 Seasons at Washington:

  • Eight-straight NCAA Tournament Appearances
  • Six Sweet 16's, Four Elite Eight's, One Final Four (2020-21)
  • Four Pac-12 Regular Season Championships
  • Three-time AVCA Region Coach of the Year (2015, 2020-21, 2021)
  • 2020-21 Pac-12 Coach of the Year
  • 37 All-Pac 12 Selections
  • 18 All-America honors (12 individuals)
  • One Pac-12 Player of the Year
  • Two Pac-12 Setters of the Year

Now Minnesota needs to take a step higher than recent years of being so close.

There's a lot of talk right now in the volleyball community and some moves are getting attention but no one should doubt the team will climb the highest yet.

Also that Big Ten 2022 defensive player of the year Murr is in the portal, and hoping that the Gophers go after her:

LONDOT, PODRAZA, MURR NAMED AVCA ALL-AMERICANS

This is Murr’s first time being recognized as an All-American. She also was named AVCA All-Region for the first time in her career this season. Following the conclusion of the regular season, Murr became the first player in program history to be named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, also being named All-Big Ten First Team. Murr led the Big Ten in digs per set (4.69) this season, which ranks second among single-season program records and only trails her average from 2019. She also led the conference in dig per set (5.26) during conference matches. Murr earned three Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors during the season (Oct. 3, Oct. 24, Nov. 14). Murr became the program’s all-time career digs leader on Nov. 18 and now totals 1,935 digs, also holding the career record for digs per set. Her 530 digs this season ranks fourth in program history. This season, Murr has totaled 10+ digs in 30 matches, 20+ digs in 10 matches and 30+ digs in two matches, including a career-high 35 digs on Nov. 18 to break the program record.

"The NCAA transfer portal is always the topic of conversation in college volleyball. The impact of transfers can’t overstated, nor the free agency that exists in the game.

But the situation at Ohio State last week was a stunner. All-American setter Mac Podraza, All-American libero Kylie Murr, and both outsides, Gabby Gonzalez and Jenaisya Moore, all entered the portal. All four are seniors who have played four seasons and, because of the COVID waiver, have one more to use if they want to."

What is the summary of the explanation given by JFO?

Mark Rosen out at Michigan:
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Warde Manuel, the University of Michigan's Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics, announced Tuesday (December 20) that a leadership change would be made in the sport of volleyball with head coach Mark Rosen not returning next season.

"Following a thorough review of the program, I have decided that Mark Rosen will not return as our volleyball coach," said Manuel. "I want to thank Mark for his 24 years of dedication to the program and to his student-athletes. I wish him success in the future."

"I appreciate the opportunity of coaching at the University of Michigan for the past 24 years. It has been a rewarding experience in every way and I'm thankful for all of the people who have made it so special," said Rosen. "The opportunity to work with phenomenal student-athletes, and alongside such great coaches, has been a daily blessing. I want to thank everyone I've met and worked with along the way for them sharing in my experience. Most of all, I want to thank Leisa and our two sons for being patient as they found themselves along on this journey. I'm forever grateful, Go Blue."

MINNESOTA
Stella Swenson
, 6-1 Jr. S, Wayzata

After graduating 10 seniors off of last year’s 4A title team, Wayzata found a way to repeat behind the play of Swenson. The reigning Gatorade Player of the Year finished 2022 with 755 assists, 185 digs and 117 kills. The Minnesota recruit was the Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, MNVBA All-State and Lake Conference All-Conference.
END QUOTE

2024 prospect Stella Swenson has committed to University of Minnesota. And so has her twin sister Olivia Swenson, also one of the top prospects in Minnesota.

In the past, transfers rarely got any playing time if any. This year Miranda had some playing time early in the season and Elise got a few looks per set as a rotational sub. The only player who made a real difference was probably Kylie Miller, whenever she was healthy and on the court.
This was going around a bit on VT and I've been saying it the whole year, but I really hope we use Elise more as a DS (depending on who else we bring in)

I had a dream last night that I was (by mistake) given access to the portal and saw that we were the only school who had given her an offer

Yep!

Crowl or the freshman from Wilmar as front-court RS hitter/blocker, and Elise as RS DS/2nd setter Though with Schaff up front, it's tough to see how she would take first ball (not a block).

Some stuff being left out: Coach is 13-4 against the B1G and 20-8 against UCLA/USC future B1G-teams. This isn't some random guy getting a chance to coach at a B1G school—it's an already-B1G-caliber coach who is just now getting the resources, fanbase, commitment, etc. of a storied B1G program.

Elite true freshman can obviously come in and make an impact.

I'd like Crowl to stay and be the front-court RS, think she can do well, but I won't be disappointed if Schnichels comes in and wins the job.

Yeah, I don't ever see Elise setting all that much other than when Mel takes the first ball. But her serve and defense helped us a lot this year so I'd love to see her more a couple of points per full rotation. Also, what's the deal with Schaff vs Shaff? At first I thought it was just somebody saying it wrong but I see the former surprisingly often and it's used in some articles about when she was a prospect...

Whoops! I have no idea, that's just my bad there.

People were saying Wenass at first too. :ROFLMAO:

You're far from the only one to do it, which made me question!
This one is weird because Schaff is in the title but not elsewhere
And then there's this and a few others on Fox

I think Sch is a very common family name "prefix" (if that's even the right word). 🤷‍♂️

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF that!!!!

What the hell???

F'ing BS.
The portal's a good thing, sometimes a school isn't the right fit and the student athletes deserve to have that chance to fix it. As a fan it absolutely sucks, though

Looked on VT.

This is nothing more than "tea" right now. And there is absolutely nothing for why it would make sense. Wenaas, it made sense. Booth started as a true freshman and would continue to start for three more years.

Hugh isn't some master middle coach. Please. And wasn't that Pedro guy the middles coach anyway?

I wish this were true but I have multiple secondary sources (close friends of DI coaches) who have confirmed it.
