As I was checking around yesterday, trying to find info on where Kendyl might end up at, saw that Gasso is up to around 1 million a year at Oklahoma. Really does have a remarkable record. Never had a season under 40 wins. Been to the world series 12 times. Amazing.

Does Merchant, Piper and a Merchant connection end up with lindaman transferring?

Did he reach out to the top assistant at the top 20 programs in the country to ask if they wanted to be handed a top 20 program for their first head coaching job (in tough environment, not unlike Michigan, with new facilities)?

Seems small time...MN native, nice build at NDSU (Co-Head Coach), Iowa State with improvement in a year (who will never be a national power)....

Such a fun run from the super regional in '14 to #1 ranking in 17 and on.....

The new hitting coach after she fired her first hitting coach AFTER ONE YEAR was a VOLUNTEER COACH at Ole Miss for THREE YEARS! OLE Miss finished 13 out of 14 teams in the SEC in 2018! (Unrelated...Pitino has two D1 former head coaches among his two assistants....Baseball added a current D2 head coach as Dir. of Ops....Whalen added a D3 head coach and former D1 head coach).

Run, run like the wind, Kendyl!!!!!

Texas, with the new coach fron Oregon and fresh transfers, has only 1 catcher on the roster and she's not a strong hitter.

Well, even if a squad has a decent hitting catcher, she is in all probability, an improvement. As an aside, I do like the fact White will now be in the same conference as Four Natty Patty.

Well, there's no way the Gophers can replace Lindaman's bat, at least in terms of power and in conference play (Partain and Houlihan carried the team in post season play more than Lindaman if I recall correctly). However, just trying to be optimistic here because it's a big loss, it could potentially open some things up offensively from a speed perspective. It became obvious in the San Diego tournament last year (I think that was the one) that the coaches were struggling to find the right spot in the line-up for Lindaman...she got thrown out on base from lack of speed or simply left on base without scoring, so they had to pinch run for her. Grasping at straws here probably, but we'll see next season!

question, fan. Do you mean that Kendyl may be in the same conference as Patty Gasso? I have not heard anything about a "White" migrating teams.Hope there is no report of Josey White doing so. That would really bite.

I think Fan was referring to Mike White, the former Oregon coach that just moved to Texas and brought with his all american pitcher (plus probably more in the coming month).

Isn't there a really good power hitting catcher, younger than Lindaman, that goes to another UofM up north? Possibilities?

I'm curious about how the transfer recruiting rules work.

I looked her up at UMD, a catcher from Victoria, MN. Impressive stats. Is she better than what the Gophers now have left at catcher?
 

Good player. My kid played travel ball with her. I think she loves UMD.

In addition, Olivia Peterson,signed this year, and Sarah Kinch, committed for next year are both catchers.
 

Tori Finucane signed with Maryland to be assistant coach. She was helping Sam Macken coach all summer with Starters program

I don't know whether to be pleased or disappointed seeing MN in the 24th spot. Their incoming players look pretty good, but the returning squad doesn't have many proven superstars. Maybe teamwork will be the saving grace?
 

The 2019 schedule is now posted on the Gopher softball website. Very challenging with a lot of potential to earn RPI points.

Going to have to rely a lot more on pitching and defense than in past years due to recent events.

We'll see if they're up to the challenge.

They need to replace Lindaman's roughly 100 combined RBI and Runs with a combination of another strong hitter and/or stronger pitching & defense. It's amazing that Partain had over 100 RBI+Runs last year too and both Houlihan and Dwyer did the prior year.

Let's say for argument that Lindaman is replaced by a batter that gets 70 RBI+Runs, then the rest of the team needs to make up about .5 runs per game. That seems reasonable given a more experienced (and hopefully healthier) pitching staff and several returning strong position players (Partain, Houlihan, Jensen, Arneson) and younger players that hopefully step up.

I do think there is plenty of potential in the lineup, so if those things come to pass, it certainly won't be insurmountable to replace Lindaman. I think Brandner could have a big year and if they can get some production from other newcomers like Hansen and White, they'll be pretty solid offensively.

Still, the obvious strength of the team as it currently stands is the pitching staff. Fiser and Smith are a good one-two combo with Brandt another solid option along with those two. Also could see more of Lowary and Bailey as the season unwinds. Figure they'll at the very least be able to keep the team in most games while the lineup sorts itself out.

Probably everyone has those thoughts. The secret, I feel, is the ability to recruit elite players. Competing in the Big Ten is one thing; doing so on a national level is another. Despite the program's enormous strides under the former coach, the only truly elite player then was, IMHO, Groenewegen. The Gophers need 3 or 4 Groenewegens (except for one year with Fiser, Groenewegen had no pitching support). It doesn't matter how good a coach is during game situations, what's most important is recruiting really outstanding players, who can win against top opponents. Here's hoping for the best!

I wouldn’t worry about that and wait until this year because already happened last year! Example - we didn’t win the B1G regular season because we lost close games to NW twice (had a lead in the 7th or later innings), Michigan State (tied at 2 after back to back HR and couldn’t score again) and Penn State AT HOME in extra innings 2-1 (need I say more). Allister and crew may not have won all of these games but they wouldn’t have lost all 4. Probably would have won 3 of 4.
 

From what I saw in fall ball, it's possible Trachsel's Gophers will be way tighter defensively than Allister's teams and also have more pitching depth. However, to succeed against the national elite teams, they will need to attract some All-American caliber players. I guess it takes a special kind of coach to do that high level recruiting for a Northern team. My theory is that Allister left MN for 2 reasons: 1. the chance to return to Stanford and 2. she saw the difficulties of competing for the very top national recruits. Still, she made it work here pretty darned well. Here's hoping Trachsel knows how to make it work even better, since she's from MN.

This year and next year the team will still be predominantly Allister recruited players. Can Trachsel continue success in the B1G with those players and then reload the roster to maintain that success? If she can keep the team at the top of the B1G through the coaching transition, loss of KL, and turnover of the roster, she can possibly build from there. Tall order.
