From what I saw in fall ball, it's possible Trachsel's Gophers will be way tighter defensively than Allister's teams and also have more pitching depth. However, to succeed against the national elite teams, they will need to attract some All-American caliber players. I guess it takes a special kind of coach to do that high level recruiting for a Northern team. My theory is that Allister left MN for 2 reasons: 1. the chance to return to Stanford and 2. she saw the difficulties of competing for the very top national recruits. Still, she made it work here pretty darned well. Here's hoping Trachsel knows how to make it work even better, since she's from MN.
