Well... who is the new starting catcher? Miller? White?? Someone else I am forgetting??
 

How is leaving now or during the summer any different? She was injured and never played in the fall. She didn’t take time away from others. Nothing changed in the recruiting class. The coaches didn’t have to spend time with her because she couldn’t practice. You can obviously be disappointed in losing a good player. But this team changed through no fault of the kids and this is not the same organization they committed to. . Jamie said that herself after the Big Ten tournament. The kids all had chances to leave over the summer but they tried to make it work. It didn’t work for everyone. That is to be expected. If this was almost any other player on the roster I doubt your opinion would be so harsh.

I don't think there's another catcher on the roster other than those two. I'm guessing it will be White, but who knows?

I find this development a complex matter, a good study in coaches' mentality. JA was a coach with charisma, who built the program around an attack with powerhitting & pitching (Groenewegen). Despite her charisma, she abandoned the team she had recruited & built, which I found pretty disingenuous by her, when she professed loyalty to MN but bolted quickly. She never made it to the CWS; I suspect she saw recruiting problems on the horizon. She may have seen the limits in her recruiting strategy (powerhitters don't grow on trees & Groenewegen was the only pitcher who got better through the years under JA; other pitchers stagnated or weren't good enough to start with). JT has, I suspect, a different strategy - pitching, speed, defense. Fall ball seemed to show she brought in some players with true athletic skills on defense. Plus they have 5 pitchers & the Canadian pitcher coming in. Still, you have to wonder about a coach who can't keep her one true superstar in Lindaman. Maybe JT encouraged Lindaman to leave? Is that stuff done at the college level? I ran into Lindaman in the Dinkytown Target star in Sept. She said she was really excited about the 2019 Gopher season. But now she, like JA, is gone. Anybody know? It'd be fun to hear.

Because it's a huge distraction for a team trying to get ready for the season. She essentially waited until the 11th hour to transfer after having played for this coach for a full year-plus. Nothing is all that new or different (that we know of) that would cause her to all of the sudden bolt. Velasquez played for the same coach for a year and left during the summer. Was I thrilled? No. But she did it in a timely fashion. Kendal Judge did the same thing (under Allister no less) and it also sucked, but at least she did over the summer. Kendyl didn't, which leads me to believe that either 1. She didn't intend to transfer, or 2. Decided to stick if out for one more year after mulling it over.

Perhaps something happened that was so volatile since the start of the academic year that she sees no other option. If so, that's tragic and sad. But if she had been thinking about this since the Big 10 Tournament (when Trachsel made her initial statement regarding things being different), then doing so over the summer would have been far more palatable. Regardless of the situation and who bears responsibility, the timing sucks and we need her to leave ASAP.

As to the "kids" comment you made, I will simply say this: If there are multiple "kids" on the team looking to do the same thing in coming weeks, the program is in a really really bad place. Not sure that's what you meant, but if that's the case, it'll be an unfettered mess.
 

One thing that changed is the rule regarding transfers. In October, a coach could no longer prevent a player from leaving by failing to grant her release. The player merely needs to tell the coach she wants to leave. The coach is required to place her name in the transfer data base within 48 hours. Right now, NCAA softball is being hit with transfer mania. Granted some of the transfers are due to coaching changes or issues between players. But, the coach and institution no longer have any way to prevent a transfer.
 

Have a feeling the NCAA will addressing this some time in the future because it seems like it's getting way out of hand. For example, Arizona State just lost their All-American pitcher to Oklahoma. It's like a free for all currently.

I do KNOW this - there was a chance for MANY players to transfer after Allister left. The administration asked them to give Jamie a chance to prove she could lead the team in a similar fashion. After the season there were a lot of changes that took place behind the scenes. The players were again asked by the administration to give the new approach another chance. They ALL did that - it may have worked for some but not for everyone.

BTW - Most people with any inside information have heard that Judge was asked to leave to make room for Smith and Valesquez planned to leave at the end of the season no matter what when she didn’t get the starting outfield job that went to Jensen.

I am completely confused as it looks like Grudgeguy and MRJ are posting the same things.
Whether both of you are posting it or not it is true. Jamie knew that players were not happy with her dictator bit last summer. She was supposed to fix things. The players stuck around for fall and things were supposed to change.

What were those changes that took place behind the scenes? What, in essence, was the 'problem' with Trachsel, which some of you comment on as though it's common knowledge. Why is there no open discussion of such matters? Why, for instance, did Valesquez or others not play? Was their defense not good enough? Or are we all dealing in speculation without any real knowledge? (What I hear is that both Allister & Trachsel have disappointed their players.)
 

Things did not change. That is most likely the problem.

What SPECIFICALLY were the changes that did not take place? Saying simply that they did not take place is stating what's perfectly obvious to anybody. Why not come out and delineate the proposed changes? It makes no sense to hide them to us other corresponders, or to act like you know them if you don't. Plus saying 'there is more to the story' as if one knows the whole story but won't disclose it is, to my mind, pretty specious. I for one would like to know the answers to these questions. If someone knows, why not tell? We'd all be wiser from knowing.
 

I would love to know, too, but my guess is that the people who really know have daughters or relatives on the team and they don't want to betray a trust or disclose something that could potentially cause problems for the player.
 

I sure will miss watching Kendyl but will look forward to watching the remaining Gophers!

Two national contending schools off the top of my head with great pitching and mediocre catching (from an offense standpoint): UCLA and Florida. Unlike others that have posted here and in other media, I don't think Kendyl would go to the PAC 12s worst softball school in Stanford. If she really wants to compete nationally and have a chance at the Olympics, I gotta believe she's looking at contenders. Watch me be wrong though.

Your comment makes good sense. I would suggest, in that case, that those who have daughters or relatives on the team and are privy to the info just remain completely quiet on the matter instead of dropping tantalizing hints that they don't intend to supply details about.

Why should that be the case? If there is somwthing wrong why can't those close to the problem comment?

Sure they can comment, but why say something without saying it all, especially if they are "close to the problem," as you say. Commenting that there were proposed changes that never took place tells us little. The gist of the comment is: What were the proposed changes? Why did they not take place?
 

Article in STrib says sources say Pac 12 or SEC, but that's not a very bold prediction. Brutal loss
