Yep, you want to treat you rush ends, especially on passing downs, as sprinters. The Vikings do the same thing. So does Seattle. PJ has done it his entire time here. This is more common than not.
This is not true. According to another poster if Jaxon Howard can just add another 20 pounds at age 21 and gets to 270lbs could play D Tackle!
Get some guys, portal and internal, and let them compete! Need guys to stay low, get off the ball, deliver a blow, not be moved and grab legs! .... and play with an edge... ......and love conract.....This is not true. Only the likes of Georgia can have multiple stud d tackles, just not sure why so many are having unrealistic expectations at filling this position. Let Sunram or someone else on the roster fill it.
Now he could take a big step up, but right now Howard is a depth guy vs a difference maker. The ability to rush the passer without bringing the house is vitally important.Let me say that I think TJ Bush is a very good player and a great "get" in the portal. I'm happy to have him on the team. But am I the only one a little confused by this? The Gophers already have Smith, Menz and Howard back as DE's. Very good core. Now we add Bush as a one-and-done.
I mean, he seems like a good get. I just never thought DE would be a position of need unless you went after a guy with multiple years. Getting a one and done guy for that spot was not on my portal bingo card.
Hello from Aaron Donald.Young man better be ready to eat… A LOT! He probably needs to add 20-25 lbs to be a B1G DT.
This guy probably isn’t Aaron Donald. No one is Aaron Donald except Aaron Donald.Hello from Aaron Donald.
Steven Richardson was 5'11 270 and did pretty dang good for the Gophers...Young man better be ready to eat… A LOT! He probably needs to add 20-25 lbs to be a B1G DT.
Where did you see 270? Sports reference says he was 292.Steven Richardson was 5'11 270 and did pretty dang good for the Gophers...
Richardson was much closer to 300lbs.Steven Richardson was 5'11 270 and did pretty dang good for the Gophers...
John Schlecht was a Minnesota kid who did a pretty good job of transforming himself into a solid DT for the Gophers in the late '90sSteven Richardson was 5'11 270 and did pretty dang good for the Gophers...
John had some help, lolJohn Schlecht was a Minnesota kid who did a pretty good job of transforming himself into a solid DT for the Gophers in the late '90s
I'd be happy to have another Steven Richardson. This guy probably isn’t Aaron Donald. No one is Aaron Donald except Aaron Donald.
Right, but you don’t need to be 320 lbs to be effective at DT.This guy probably isn’t Aaron Donald. No one is Aaron Donald except Aaron Donald.
True. I like having 1 immovable object and 1 disruptor.Right, but you don’t need to be 320 lbs to be effective at DT.
I’m not sure where you’re getting 320 lbs…Right, but you don’t need to be 320 lbs to be effective at DT.
Unfortunately we probably won't know until we see if he is listed on the spring roster. He only had the one year of eligibility but didn't play due to injury so highly possible he has another year available and he hasn't gone into the portal.Any chance that injured Purdue DT transfer from last year will play?
Awesome. Hope you didn't run into any screens. SLP Lifetime used to have some notable faces at their Men's League.Ha!
I played against him at SLP Lifetime (I think?) years ago. He was a shockingly athletic massive human being.
Great, keep casting a big net.
