Gopher portal visits and signings

Auburn has three 4 star receivers in the portal and one 5 star (who is also the #1 WR in the portal). I don’t think it’s a money issue, I just think it’s because they suck.

We likely paid handsomely for this kid tho, let’s hope we see a good TE too (and hopefully that Tulane RB)
Good point. It's a sinking/sunken ship.

Ernie might never have reached the full potential he seemed like he should have but he was a really good WR for us.
My buddy’s and my nickname of him was Stone . 🙌 .

Fun to watch galloping down the down the field either way those looooooooooong strides😀

Looks as though the Gophs have signed two brothers from Michigan State, both DBs, one of whom we needed. Could be a starting CB opposite Nestor.

Troubled by the radio silence on UMD TE Luke Dehnicke. He's got a lot of good offers ... but in a rational world he should a Gopher!

Dehnicke and the AA OT from NDSU that just committed to Vandy are the guys I was hoping for. PJ and the boys seem to be doing a heck of a nice job retaining our guys and finding other quality transfers to fill our roster holes, though!

Smith makes 11 or 12 guys incoming from the portal...how many do we have roster openings for?

Minnesota

Prized portal signing: Perry Thompson, WR, Auburn

Give P.J. Fleck and the Golden Gophers credit for taking a shot on a player with limitless potential if they can tap into it. Thompson arrived at Auburn in the 2024 recruiting cycle as a top-10 wideout in his class, but never found his footing in Hugh Freeze's offense alongside Cam Coleman -- another portal exit on The Plains. Minnesota sorely missed Daniel Jackson's production at wideout in 2025 and needed a big-play option on the outside. The Foley, Alabama, native provides that and fits what Fleck is looking for within his "developmental program" in the Big Ten.

Who do we have competing for FG kickers ?
Right now it would be Daniel Jackson and the new Michigan kid who was a kickoff specialist. They had a kid from Bowling Green on campus who had pretty good numbers, could see them adding him as well, otherwise they must think the Michigan kid can kick field goals as well and just hasn't had the opportunity.

I wonder if Luke Ryerse is going to just focus on baseball...
Someone did a video recently on Gopher baseball and was touring the facilities. Ryerse said that he flipped from Bama because they made him pick one. I got the impression he was still going to play both.

Let me say that I think TJ Bush is a very good player and a great "get" in the portal. I'm happy to have him on the team. But am I the only one a little confused by this? The Gophers already have Smith, Menz and Howard back as DE's. Very good core. Now we add Bush as a one-and-done.

I mean, he seems like a good get. I just never thought DE would be a position of need unless you went after a guy with multiple years. Getting a one and done guy for that spot was not on my portal bingo card.

PJ bringing the 46 defense back? 🤷🏼‍♂️

They like to rotate the DE a lot to keep them fresh. Having 4 really good options is great.

I also would not be shocked to see them run some 3 DE packages with Smith sliding inside from time to time. He has the size to do it and his speed could be really disruptive up the middle in certain passing situations.
