Golden Gophers in the NFL - 2024 Season

So many former Gophers in Bucs - Ravens

Bateman
Faalele
Winfield
Kieft
Irving (sorta)

I still count Bucky even if he was only here for one year. I've heard commentators this year reference Minnesota when talking about him....which is a bit odd considering Oregon is a higher profile program. Maybe just because TB has been a pro-Gopher team for a while.

Feels like Bateman is starting to settle in and become a bigger part of the Baltimore offense.

Fun seeing former Gophers all over the field in the Baltimore/Bucs game tonight.

Bateman just isn't a great fit for the offense the Ravens run. They try to run short routes and get the ball out of Jackson's hands quickly.....which is why Flowers gets so many targets. When Flowers went down last night, it opened things up to shoot for Bateman down field. But they just aren't really a downfield passing team. I'm hoping this is a turning point where they realize that they can open things up a bit more.

They love the TE too. I hope he finds a new home whenever he becomes a free agent.

Yeah, a change of scenery for Bateman would probably be good for his career but nice to see him having some success which should help him keep earning an NFL paycheck.

I’ve never been impressed with Jackson as a passer. Bateman needs someone that can hit him on deep patterns and crossing patterns. Does anyone know when his contact is up?

Whenever I watch Irving, whether at Oregon or now with the Buccaneers, I have these "what might have been" feelings. He may have stayed if the Gophers would have been running the same offensive scheme that they are now. No question that his move to Oregon highlighted his strengths.

Nice to see Bateman do well last night. He's got the goods and as others have said, he would probably do even more in a system that featured a bit more downfield passing. I have to say that the Ravens' TE group has to be the best in the league and I really can't blame them for featuring that group as much as they do.

Yeah....I mean this is why Baltimore signed him to a contract extension despite his underwhelming (and injury riddled) first three seasons. He's clearly a good NFL receiver....even if he doesn't fit the offense great as a pass catcher.....he pulls defenders downfield which opens up the middle.

According to this he's under contract for an additional two more years. He signed an extension just this past April so he must be happy there.

His production over his first 3 years wasn't anything that would have made him a high priority free agent so makes sense to stick with the team he knows if they are willing to keep paying him.

Through 7 games he is on pace to have far and away his best season as a pro. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Check out what AWJr does today against Kyle Pitts and the Falcons. The ultimate AWJr play is about to deny the Falcons a TD at the one inch line and will be all over the highlights.

Pitts has an easy TD, slows down, dangles the ball, and AWJr chases him down and knocks it out at the 1 inch line.

Edit: the call of TD stood on the field but I think it's a bad call and so did the TV people
