GH: The Final 48 Hours – Sean Henderson on the Nation’s #1 – Seantrel Henderson

Sean Henderson on Jeff Horton - "He was okay". Not necessarily a ringing endorsement. Ouch.

Great job GL. I'm glad you asked the question about the Louis and Seantrel rooming together. I thought that was one of the most interesting bits about the whole Louis story. I'm curious did Sean indicate if, and how, the two know each other?

Note to Sean, the best way to show Iowa what they missed out on is to tell your son to stay at home!

It was just the Henderson's downplaying Minnesota again, and then they will shock the college football world by picking the Gophers.

Doesn't sound like daddy was too impressed.

I agree. He certainly does not sound impressed. I think this could be for one of two reasons: 1) he isn't; or 2) he is so intent on keeping this a secret until the Lemming show (for whatever reason) that he is overly cognizant of tipping his hand and will not answer any question about the U too positively.

Maybe #2 is grasping for hope?

Man I am so turned off by Sean Henderson's attitude...I hope Seantral signs with the U, but if he doesn't at least we wont have to hear about his daddy whinning about playing time and the offensive system being run. This guy has Craig James written all over him

EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS...

Before anyone overreacts to this comment. I always go off exactly what people say, I don't embellish. This was actually the last question I asked him (it was just put in order so it was at the time of the Gopher q's). He said "He was okay" and since I had already taken up way more time that I asked for he joked and said "I thought this was just a couple of minutes." I didn't want to overstep my bounds, but the guy is swamped with calls...and he was so kind to call me back 10 minutes after I left a VM. So don't take this too seriously - the comments about being the 1st and last visit were very positive.

Sean honestly didn't even know who the kid was. I explained his OSU commitment, etc., and he still had no clue. But that's obviously something Seantrel could of talked about, and your parents don't know everything you talk about with your friends.

Thanks for clearing that up GL. I am sure you're right about it being something the two kids probably talked about and is just something Sean didn't know.

If you think his dad is going to complain about SH's playing time a la Craig James I think you're either underselling Seantrel's talent or overselling the talent on our OL. ;)

Did you see him get worked over in the Army All-American Game? To expect a true freshmen to come in and start is asking alot...while he does have enormous ammount of raw talent it might take some time to realize it.

He hates us!!!!! anything about MN is like oh yeah whatever BACK TO USC!!! "Not anything special" "He was okay." could he be more blahh about the U ?!?!? we'll he's not coming here that's the only safe bet

Remember, those are quotes from his dad, and the "He was okay" quote was at the end of the interview with time running out. I don't know the family dynamics, but I hope Seantrel is encouraged by his dad to make his own decision.

I hope so too...but I've met some pretty overpowering/influential dad's and it seem Seantrel really cares about him and what he thinks.

I sure do hope that Seantrel isn't influenced too much in his decisions by his father. If he is, then we have no shot.

It was really upsetting to me when Sean said that the evening at the U was "not anything special." TCF being lit up just for him, along with a #77 jersey already made for him, and being able to see different visuals of him as a Gopher star seems pretty special to me. That's kind of a kick in the face to Brewster and his staff who seemed to put a lot of effort into making the night as special as possible.

Shocker that a father living on the coat tails of his son may be a D-bag. With that said, SH seems like a good kid so something was done right.

I wonder if the personal price a coaching staff pays to recruit a modern-day phenom is worth it. A life-sized cutout? I couldn't and wouldn't fawn all over a kid and his family, even if he had eight stars. Just reading interviews with the dad is tough. I'm worried about players who sign, not the dads who so obviously enjoy the game playing leading up to that time. This guy is enjoying his fifteen minutes. Hope the young man can keep his feet on the ground wherever he goes.

1st of all, welcome to the board!

2nd - a lot is lost when you don't hear someone's voice, tone, etc. I didn't really interpret his comment as they U didn't do anything nice for them, I interpreted it as how the coaches and families created a very relaxed, family-like environment. Kind of like home. This may be a strange paranoia too, but I always wonder if they worry about what they say, as not to be interpreted too grand or outside of the recruiting limits...which clearly the U was within. I think they were more impressed with the little things, like just talking, watching the game, hanging out, etc...I think that shows you what's important to them.

As for all of the criticism of Mr. Henderson, I really don't get it. This is a guy that's being bombarded with calls, emails, requests every single day. I could tell that Seantrel was overwhelmed, and I think he's taken some of the heat so Seantrel can take his time and doesn't have to deal with media. Keep in mind, this guy is getting calls from ESPN, and many other national media outlets - and 2 days before signing day, he took time out of his crazy schedule (more time than I had initially asked for) to talk to our little Gopher website. That's a pretty gracious thing to do, and a showing of respect for his hometown team. If he commits here or not, Seantrel never led anyone on, never backed down on a commitment, and really made an educated choice - I think he, and his parents should be commended for that.

I think you also have to keep in mind that this guy has just been through the gauntlet of recruiting with his son. I think displays like Brewster's are awesome, but they are simply part of the show that is college football recruiting. I'm sure Sean Henderson has seen similiar displays countless times over the past couple of years. The truth is that these types of things aren't really important. The question is "where will Seantrel have the most personal and "professional" growth?", all of these other things, don't really matter.

From some people who I know, who know Sean Henderson, I have never gotten the vibe that he is a show dad, that is yucking it up and being blase. I think he really is looking out what is best for his son, and you really can't blame the guy for that (even if it drags Seantrel away from the U).

I'm with you on that. I'm not sure what Sean Henderson has done to deserve the bad rap he has gotten on this board. My guess is that people are preemptively looking for someone they can blame in case SH chooses not to sign with the U on Wednesday.

I think it's more of a comment on that type of effort being the norm in big-time recruiting. They've likely seen equally impressive, if not more impressive, flashy efforts at every school they've visited. I don't think it takes anything away from Brew's effort at all - I think it's just indicative of how competitive the world of recruiting really is.

It's probably me, but I'm turned off by the father. I hope Seandrel enjoys Ohio State or USC or wherever he goes.

I think that he will sign with the Gophers today, having former teammates playing for the Gophers already (Kim Royston and Matt Crufels, who he can possibly start next too) is a huge advantage, they can tell him why they went away and why they came back to play for the U. Having them give credability to the football program helps SH to decide that this is a great program with great players that will only get better with more players at the level of SH. The Gophers should've given his gf an underwater basketweaving scholarship to be on the team, it doesn't matter how you get her to become a freshmen next fall, just get her to want to be one when she graduates. Alot of guys would hate to be away from the GFs as a freshmen. And I bet Seantrel isn't any different.

I haven't read or heard (sadly) anything that supports that theory. I'm bracing myself for disappointment. I just don't see a happy ending with this.

Very interesting theory, but then it can be a good reason for him to leave -- knowing his safety blanket would be here down the road. Who knows... tick tock tick tock...

Here's Seantrel's facebook profile.

He's got over 1,400 fb friends, for someone who's only in HS that's alot of friends too. There is so much here that will help him succeed and a fall back if he needs help too. Some of the places that some people have him going to don't make sense. Going to USC would be stupid if they get hammered for violations. SH has a great chance of starting his freshmen year and doing that until he graduates or leaves early to go to the NFL. He wouldn't do that anywhere else. He would warm the bench for 1 or 2 years before getting much PT at Ohio St., Miami, USC, or other other schools on his list. Minnesota is the only school that he can start almost right away if he works hard between now and fall practice.

1290 people on the site and not a post in 3 minutes. eerie.
