Georgia WR Tyler Williams has committed to MN

According to this board the portal is the worst thing in the world for basketball but it’s great for football
My take on the football portal vs. the basketball portal has really shifted this off season. The basketball portal is all about money and teams rosters are getting totally decimated and rebuilt while guys go off chasing pay days and moving around.

That is happening in football as well but to a much lesser degree. Notice in football there is rarely a dollar figure attached to each transfer in or out.

To this point in football the overall results in the portal for us have been a net positive. We have lost some good players but we have also brought in a lot of good players.

After seeing the insanity and pure stupidity that is going on in basketball the football portal seems tame by comparison.

I really need to start with the football board, then go to the basketball board. Or better yet, skip the hoops board all together.

Great get!
+10000 - Football board is way more fun most of the time. Basketball board can often only be taken in small doses before the negativity gets to a point where you need to go do something else.....anything else.

Oh man and I thought the negativity here got bad at times ...

Magic 8-ball says Gopher football has improved greatly this off season & will be fun to watch. PJ unlike Saban has and can adapt to the ever changing college football landscape. Better to flow like water than break like ice.

former qb in HS. also played bball and had an offer to play bball at FGCU

Dealing with a different class of athletes. Saban was getting the highly ranked players who were likely getting tons of money thrown at them and had very large egos. Fleck is dealing more with that next tier of players who are going to be more likely to buy into the team concept.

Tough to get much out of tape like that. He won’t just run wide open in the Big Ten.

Definitely intriguing potential
I disagree with you. You can tell a lot from the tape. Maybe you should watch it again. It seems you weren’t watching it very closely

6’5”, 190 lbs and a 4.4 40 time!

Hopefully he has been sandbagging his 40 efforts and is more like this guy,

I think bringing another WR was a indication of the progress of the WR on the roster. Sounded like from Burns on the podcast that the WR behind Jackson were struggling. Hoping no one transfers, but bringing in a young, talented WR will be good and push some of the others.

Always happy to be educated. I don’t see it

I’m not saying I don’t see potential or raw talent. Sure. I’m saying that he was so far ahead of the competition that it’s not a valid assessment of how he will do against someone of comparable physical talent.

Until guys step up and prove they can get it done you have to keep looking for and bringing in other options.

QB was a mess last year but the WR didn't exactly shine either outside of Jackson. Hopefully some guys step up whether that is guys that were already on the roster or some of these transfers that have been brought in.

We could really use all the competition we can get at WR. Besides Jackson and injury we do not really see established talent. Brockington was getting close. Big dudes with speed help the QB accuracy.

I think people here would be in agreement that overall the portal is bad for college sports (from a fan perspective). You can also argue that the portal has been really bad for Ben and generally good for PJ. But I'm pretty sure most fans would just prefer things to be like they were pre-portal/NIL.

The portal itself isn't the problem. The portal is just the tool players can use to make it known they are looking for a new school.

The problem is unrestricted free agency combined with unregulated pay for play. Those are the things that are leading to so many players deciding to transfer in basketball and football.

Hopefully the pendulum will swing the other way and some restrictions will be implemented soon.

He is an intriguing prospect with a lot of potential. A little seasoning and patience go a long way. He was a former HS QB (a good portion) who has height and speed.

The plus side of the portal is exactly what Tyler Williams is. He saw two incoming recruits that will likely surpass him in a talent-laden Georgia roster. He opted to transfer to a program that wanted him. Thanks to his connection Gophers Assistant WR Coach Isaiah Walker.

Just when we feel deflated with all the recent out-transfers, boom! We got good replacements!
