Georgia Tech QB Zach Pyron Transfers to Minnesota

We have a coach in PJ who continues to learn and get better. He knows that he has a good QB in Drake, but also knows he can't afford to trust someone as much as he did AK. When AK faultered there was no viable back up and we were stuck. A really good team made to look average by bad QB play. This is a great value add. Keeps everyone happy, makes the QB room better and doesn't cost a ton of NIL to make it happen.
Ryan Burns said they already paid Lindsey and so do not have enough NIL to pay for a starter level QB in the portal when the team has so many other needs to fill.

I don't get it. Go get another Max-type starter kid who's thrown 500 plus passes. This seems like a so-so use of a scholarship.
Getting someone like that isn’t a guarantee.

I also wouldn’t look too much into his numbers at GT. Spot starts aren’t always easy.

Probably the first to answer the bell. We can do better.

Pretty clear they targeted him from the get go like they did Max considering he's been on campus for 36 hours already and committed. Better QB's with experience need either large NIL payouts or/and commitments that they'll start. We aren't giving either of those out to a QB so no, I don't think we can do better than this tier this cycle with the assumption that Lindsay is in the drivers seat to start.

After a long and very thorough 5 minute search on YouTube, I found these two videos: one vs. (ironically) Virginia Tech, the other vs. Notre Dame.

He makes some nice throws, and appears to have some running ability. Announcers comment favorably on his competitive nature.

I like him.

I don’t get the hate for this add. One, it’s not easy to add a Brosmer type experienced QB every year. I don’t see a lot of good experienced qbs sitting in the portal at the moment. This guy would appear to have been more coveted out of high school than Drake was. Also he’s got a couple years so who knows what could develop with him, I think he’ll get a fair shot at the starting job, and hopefully worst case is he’s an upgrade to the back up spot. I do agree though if this is the only qb add it shows the staff is pretty excited about Drake.

Of course, the biggest question of all is (drum roll)...

Does he have...

... a Big Arm... to throw The Deep Ball?

It's really all that matters!

Am I confused (don't worry you won't hurt my feelings) or do the Gophers have three, 4 star high school quarterbacks on their roster? Has Minnesota ever had such an abundance of stars in that room?

Too many people think you can control C, control V. Oh, just get the next Brosmer.

They have blinders towards NIL limitations (Darius, Koi, keeping Drake), finding that QB who will buy into PJs culture, and oh, actually hitting on that QB.

Does PJ not realize that if he can just go grab a QB like Brosmer, a WR like Rashod Bateman, and a safety like Antoine Winfield Jr we could compete for a title next year?

I am very happy with this development!! Drake definitely has the keys to the offense next year, but Pyron provides some proven experience at this level of football. I also think he will be a definite wildcat option for the Gophers. I’ve seen him play several times and think he will be a solid backup. Looking forward to having him in the fold.

Welcome aboard the boat Zach!!!

Are you a really unhappy and miserable human being? Your family must despise you.
Seems like a bit of a stretch for saying PJ likes Lindsey. I'm generally one of the more optimistic fans on here. Forgive me for not being elated that we are bringing in a career backup grad transfer qb with a career 54% completion percentage.

For the record, I think Lindsey is going to be really good. Apparently PJ is ready to play him next year. Will be fun to see how it develops.

Maybe stop and think before you post insults next time???

The guy is going into his 4th year, played in all 3 seasons and was in 10 games this year. Looks like he was the backup everyone loved.

Sounds like a quality guy to add to the room and might even benefit from a new program.

To me this move says they feel good about what they have in Drake or maybe Wittke for next year as this feels like a depth move.

We all talk about Drake as the heir apparent and hopefully he is but don't sleep on Wittke as he could be an option as well. For some reason I had in my head that he was older but he was just a redshirt freshman this past season.

Going to be fun to watch the QB battle in the spring and fall to see who emerges as the starter for 2025.
