Was at the game Saturday, flipped him from UND. Third TE this cycle I believe
Minnesota does not individually shop NIL and revenue sharing for HS recruits. They have a flat salary for freshmen and it's merit after that. That's what I've heard through the grapevine. All freshmen make the same. With revenue sharing, is there any good reason why we're going after UND recruits? I could see if it was NDSU....
So we got the #1 TE in MN and WI, not bad. MN has produced about five D1 TE's for 2026 and MN got 2 of the top recruits.3* #1 TE in WI / Ellsworth Football/Basketball/Track TE 6’7” 235lbs EHS 2026 3.9 GPA

to be fair, you also need some guys who are going to eat no extra NIL. we do graduate 3 TEs this year as well. i'm sure he's a depth guy that you expect to play very little over 5 years unless he really blossoms and you need those guys on the roster as well. With revenue sharing, is there any good reason why we're going after UND recruits? Coaches like him? With revenue sharing, is there any good reason why we're going after UND recruits? I could see if it was NDSU....
Collective short memories around here. Ko Kieft was originally an NDSU commit. I'd take Ko Kieft on our team every season.
The GOAT, Drake Lindsey also didn't have the longest offer list:So was Kaden Zenzen. Just saying.
I'm not following here... Zenzen wasn't offered by MN, or any other P4 school. He seems to have found his level? So was Kaden Zenzen. Just saying.
FWIW....I've seen him play basketball a number of times (haven't seen him play football)....but he moves really really well for a 6'7" 230+ kid. He's got plenty of frame to fill out too.
This is UND, not NDSU. I even made a comment in my original post: "I could see if it was NDSU".Collective short memories around here. Ko Kieft was originally an NDSU commit. I'd take Ko Kieft on our team every season.
The days of "projects" should be over with. Go somewhere else and develop and get back to us.Offensive tackle project? That's my guess
Why? We should absolutely not shy away from projects. We should be more open to them today than in previous years. Scholarship numbers are much more flexible now because you move guys on. I think this is the reason we are seeing Fleck focus on more local recruits out of HS.The days of "projects" should be over with. Go somewhere else and develop and get back to us.
The Hagemonster was fun to watch.Ra'shede Hageman was also a HS TE at 6' 6" and 250lb. IIRC
This is the lamest take ever. They went after him because they think he'll be able to contribute. With revenue sharing, is there any good reason why we're going after UND recruits? I could see if it was NDSU....

Nick Kallerup only had an offer from 1 FCS school (USD) before walking on and is now collecting an NFL paycheck.
In years past I think it was better to take projects because if they went elsewhere and had success, they probably weren't coming back here for their senior year. Why? We should absolutely not shy away from projects. We should be more open to them today than in previous years. Scholarship numbers are much more flexible now because you move guys on. I think I mistakenly assumed he was getting a scholarship. I take back my comments if he's just walking on. That's a great thing if he can come here and try it on his own dime. They like him and think he's a hidden gem?
Even if he's a scholarship and we think he's a guy we want, why not take him? Bonus if he's a walk on.I think I mistakenly assumed he was getting a scholarship. I take back my comments if he's just walking on. That's a great thing if he can come here and try it on his own dime.

Can he contribute right away? I highly doubt it or he'd have more offers and such. Why let him sit on our bench for a few years hoping he can contribute later? Why not go get a transfer who can contribute immediately and then bring this guy in when said transfer graduates?
And yes, there are examples like you mentioned, although it's not apples to apples since this guy is eating up a scholly versus the walk-on you mentioned, but in this day and age, what's wrong with letting someone else develop him?
I can make a longer list of players like Spencer Alvarez (the local dude who was like a 2* but we took him in 2020 or whatever) that never amounted to squat than you can make a list of these guys being successful.
Geez, only positive things on this board, eh?
