GAME #24: Gophers (15-8, 4-6) v. Indiana (14-8, 4-5) [BTN, 2/8, 7:15PM]

I love how much the Pitino's get into the game.

Let's face it, GII. That is a close family that loves each other, supports each other, and loves the game of basketball.

GO PITINOS!!!

I can see Pitino Senior telling Pitino Junior..."Kid, you have a sleeping giant right here. Gopher it like Billy did at Florida, son."

on a side note, can we hire ryan pitino in some fashion? perhaps as a visit tour guide or something? the dude just seems awesome

Assistant coach. As long as he wears the chicken suit on the bench.

An underrated big moment in the game to me was Austin Hollins hitting a 3 to tie the game immediately following him missing the front end of a 1 and 1.

Djuan Piper tweeted some very favorable comments about the Barn even before it got rocking in the 2nd half. Maybe some good news from Piper or Gueyere (sp?) coming soon?

That was a huge 3. If he misses and IU pushes it to 5 or 6 we're cooked. Austin gets a lot of crap on here because it seems like he could be better than he is (see Rodney, RSIII). Let's just appreciate him for what he is. A senior who's been a solid player for 4 years, plays amazing D, and has hit the biggest shot in the last two games.

Why would you root against Dower? Tubby offered him a walk on spot and Gonzaga offered him a scholarship. Easy decision.

Are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure we had an offer extended at one point.

Solid win tonight at a time where we really needed. Really liked the intensity of the defense tonight and how much more active it seemed. A number of guys played pretty good games again tonight Dre, Austin, Mathieu, Mo, EE, etc. but the guy that seems to continually be improving to me is McNeil. The reffing really seemed bad again tonight I was afraid the missed goaltending call was gonna end up costing us in the end but thankfully that didn't happen. Also something that makes me mad everytime I watch IU play is why do refs let Crean be on the floor so much? There was one point were Austin almost ran over him dribbling the ball up the floor.

EG, for the 2nd half I have turned the power switch to ON, and things will go as we wish. :)

Can we get the power switch turned on a little more often Dr.Don? I think a lot of us could benefit from a game that produces a lot less anxiety.

I don't know if you guys saw it, but Coach P's dad and brother were at the game.

Nope. I prefer to keep things at bitch level until it is time to turn it up. :)

That is the way I remember it. Tubby had already brought in Ralph, Colt, Carter in the 2008 class. Then he had White and Mbakwe in the 2009 class (Dower's class). So there wasn't a scholarship for him.

For anyone who was at the game, there was a moment when the camera showed Rick Pitino laughing like crazy when coming back from a commercial break. I saw Jerry and Rebecca Kill at the game and it appeared people were high fiving Jerry. Then the crowd did the "Jerry, Jerry" chant. Did they get them on the kiss cam or something?

Ah.....maybe that was the case. I do think that we had an offer extended at one point.....but Gonzaga already had offered and he had already visited. It's probable that we didn't have the scholly for him.

What are you insinuating? Also, he's a 4 star on ESPN.

Sorry. Going by Rivals. People don't like ESPN rankings on here...and I'm not insinuating anything. But if you want to go by espn, he is an 80 -- which is about as low as you can get for a 4 star. But who cares? Don't we not worry about stars on here?

My rule of thumb when it comes to recruiting rankings is to look at all 4 major services and then average the rankings. I'd say Piper is probably a mid to high 3-star based on that method. He's also probably the second best recruit that we are still recruiting in 2014, with Mahmoud being #1.

Great win. Awesome. Piper: 3 star, NR.

Ferrell - 5 star, 19th overall
Perea - 4 star, 43rd overall
Hollowell - 4 star, 41st overall
Vonleh - 5 star, 8th overall
Williams - 4 star, 47th overall
Sheehey - 3 star, 141st overall

Just some of the players we beat tonight. What is your point?

Tonight was fairly even overall, missed goal-tend aside. But then, that is the problem when we have to overcome 6-10 point deficits on the road.

Austin should have run into Crean. They'd pretty much be obligated to call a T I would think?

I commented earlier but there was a time in the second half where DeAndre was closely defended with the ball in the back-court and Crean had both of his feet completely on the floor. He was only two or three feet from DeAndre. It would have been hilarious if DeAndre ran right at him and got the T.

(Although knowing how the refs are sometimes, they may have just called DeAndre out of bounds.

More likely a charge on Math

Yeah to me it seemed like IU got some calls in the 1st half and the Gophers might have got a couple in the 2nd.

Not sure on the rule but I would think it would be a T. I can understand every once in a while being out there and especially at Indiana because of the bench being almost right on the court but at The Barn where there is plenty of room on the sideline you really shouldn't need to be on the court especially when the play is on that end.

I'd give that award to DeAndre's dagger.

Most people who bothered reading and posting in this thread already knew that Piper was visiting. Toss that obvious info in there with "3 star" and you may not get these responses. However, the "NR" bit looks a lot like a jab. As has already been stated, Piper is a "4 star" on espn and ranked 141st on 247. Everyone here knows that you try to piss on the parade. Not tough to see.

Truthfully, I saw Dre almost run into Pitino once too, but it's obviously not OK on the defensive end. Look at the huge issue they made about Mike Tomlin. Fines, possible loss of draft picks. Crean almost tripping Dre? No biggie.

I thought we were cooked when Austin missed the front end...great play next time down to score the three. Then again when Dre gave the ball away under our basket. I was screaming call a time out, can't believe he didn't hear me, I know my neighbors did.

Much needed victory and great defensive effort in the second half. If we had played like this in any of the three previous games we wouldn't be on the bubble. This team needs to show this kind of effort every game.

Amazing atmosphere tonight. The biggest change from the past is the sustained intensity of fan support through defensive stands, etc. People really on their feet and LOUD.

How Crean gets away w/straying so far into play is beyond me. Yes, Pitino should drawn up play where a guard runs him down
