GAME #20: Gophers (14-5, 3-3) v. #8/9 Wisconsin (16-2, 3-2) [BTN, 1/22, 8:00PM]

OK. Then miss the first 10 minutes of the game, but it's available to anyone with a computer. It's pretty handy to be able to watch anywhere and watch replays immediately.

Okay, but when I have my TV screen 3 inches from my computer screen that I am using to get intellectual insight from GopherHole.........well you get the picture.:cool02:

Much, much, much more dangerous offensively, with all 5 starters (+ Hayes) legitimate threats to score. This isn't the same ole' plodding Badger offense.

Much, much, much worse defensively, they can't guard a chair. Mathieu's quickness & penetration should give the Badgers major headaches. If he plays well, the Gophers will win.

++++

I will add as long as Austin can contain Dekker they are in good shape.

Hayes vs Oto and King scares me too. Kaminsky could cause us some issues too since EE would have to defend him on the perimeter. I'm thinking we go mostly 2-3, which we've been playing a lot lately, but then we really have to focus on closing out on their perimeter shooters.

1.5 point underdogs. Should be a great game again.

Wisconsin doing that cute pointless, "grab the ball and roll of the edge of the floor" drill. Lame!

will play a zone, EE will never be on the perimeter and he will own anyone in the paint. Kaminsky IMO a better version Ralph, a 7ft shooting guard

Is Hayes healthy? I thought there were rumblings of him being either under the weather or banged up. I agree, I was just as worried about hiim as anybody on WI, matchup wise.

I won't be able to watch this one, as it'll be 2am in Scotland. I'm just going to go to bed with the assumption we're going to lose and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised when I wake up.

And rebounding. I agree we'll play a lot of zone.

As always, if Elliott stays out of foul trouble, we have a good chance. If not, we're in tough shape.

Will we have any Duck Boat Riot chants?

Will we have any Duck Boat Riot chants?

There will be a couple. Whether or not the whole student section joins in will be the question. Security has started kicking people out if they start that chant the last couple years.

What is the duck boat chant? A clean version of the **** Bo chant? Or are you just afraid of typing **** on GH?

Gopher-Badger matchups

Wisconsin gave up over 50% shooting to both Indiana and Michigan at home in their only two losses. This Badger team can light it up, but has a hard time stopping people, a bit different then the last few years. They are missing the physical effort players like Breuswitz, Beggren, and Evans and now have a more finesse and highly skilled shooting team. I do not think you can zone this team much as all 5 starters, and most of their bench, shoot the 3 well, so hear are some matchups:

Jackson on Mathieu at the point. Jackson's physical body versus Mathieu's quickness.
Brust and Andre at the 2. Same hear, the bigger Brust versus the quicker Andre.
Gasser and Austin at sf. Gasser is a 3pt specialist, Austin the better athlete. We need something on offense from Austin. He is much quicker than Gasser.
Dekker and Oto. This one hurts. Future pro Dekker can play inside and out.
Kaminsky and EE. In a battle for most improved big ten player. EE has the advantage inside, especially on the boards, while Kaminsky can knock down the 3.

Off the bench PF Hayes is their only physical frontcourt player and he has played well when Bo gives him a chance as we all know Bo doesn't play freshmen unless he has to.

I could see us going small early so Austin could guard Dekker, especially if M. Smith is hot from deep. Need EE to dominate the boards. We also need to guard the 3 point line and not help on drives and to also guard for the whole shot clock. The Badgers are hitting 9 3's per game on 39% shooting as a team. I would not help and make them make shots over us.

I think we do some sort of zone, we've been using a 2-3 a lot lately. Going man is too much of a risk with Oto/King having to defend Dekker and Kaminsky drawing EE out of the paint. Going zone will allow EE to protect the rim and helps us to avoid a poor 1-on-1 match up with Dekker.

The last couple of years, a few GHers posted that they had little kids with them at the UW game and when the students started the F BO RYAN chant they told their kids that the students were chanting "DUCK BOAT RIOT" and their kids bought it hook, line and sinker!

Go Gophers!!

It's a bad chant. It's an embarrassing chant really. I noticed the student section doesn't have many good chants anymore. Heck, they don't even do the Maroon and Gold chant anymore. They did it when Grier was playing. The chants have gotten lazier and less clever and more offensive.

The best job by the students that I can remember is when the students displayed blown up pictures of Brian Butch wearing a bra over his bare-chest in what looked like a hallway of a dorm. They held it up for the first time during the national anthem for the entire arena to see. Even the Badgers players laughed at Butch during the national anthem. That was good!

Ah alright. Thanks.

It could be a tinge of defiance against Maturi, Ellison, and the no-fun crew of the recent past in our athletic department. They stifled creative, unique things, such as the flyers that had the names of our opponents' girlfriends at the Barn and prohibited the pep band from singing along and having the drummers help with the beat when the student section would sing the "Hey" song a capella. I guess if the athletic department takes away the students' scalpels, then the students will pull out their hammers.

One of the few chants I got started when I was a student was, "Brian's the Butch, Stiemsma's the Bitch." I think it is fine to be mildly offensive in college.

Side note: I was at a wedding with Butch last summer, nice guy.

Wish the " Badger Killer " Lawrence Westbrook was in town.

He absolutely hated Becky. I remember the comments he made after he did a job on them in Madison
on SiriusXM after the game. And then at the Barn instead of running the clock down with 5 seconds left he went for the jam. LW is playing over seas and last I heard he is doing very well. The Gophers
probably don't need it, but It would be neat to have Pitino let LW say a few words before the game.

What's with all of the random return spaces in your posts?

When you're making a point " return spaces " is the last thing on your mind. You're the type of clown that would admonish everyone if they picked up the wrong fork to eat their salad. Bottom line. You're are a f--king knit picker.

Btn2go usually plays live.

Ok Gold Vision, I've read what you were saying about Btn2go and I have Direct TV, so I got signed in and put the app on my Iphone, (lot of work for a tech challenged dummy like me) and I'm out of town working nights. Can I get the broadcast on my phone tonight?
