Future Gopher Coach Discussion

Yeah, but not due to his actual date of birth. It’s out of the ordinary that someone born in March of 07 to be a junior whereas it’s common for someone born in August. Regardless Moe/Motzko made the decision to accelerate and was obviously part of a plan. Would some random CHLer really make more sense?

2/3 of your Gopher hockey staff for 2026-27

"Quinnipiac assistant coach Rick Bennett is headed to University of Maine to join Ben Barr's staff

Bennett and Barr go way back. At Union, they were Nate Leaman's assistants from 2008 to 2011'

Nightengale extension as MSU to 5 year rolling deal. They didn't release the dollar amount. Great decision by MSU to lock up the guy who's brought them back on the national scene, but I'd assume the crowd here hates him because he lost in the first round last year as a 1 seed and in the regional the year before as a 1 seed plus he's never even won the WJC as a coach /s

In reality, he's a home run hire there as he played there, is young, and having been the former U17 coach, he's going to have a built in pipeline there for seemingly as long as he wants it and keeps recruiting NTDP kids (and probably still to a lesser extent over at SSM due to his prior coaching there).

Knowing that Carle is not touchable, I'd rank them Nightengale, Barr, Firschweiler

I don't know what he's making, but I'd have to think we can pay more than MSU for a hockey coach

If we do go for a new coach, we should look for someone with a high level of recent success. Like being in two frozen fours and winning 3 conference titles in the last four years.

If you never want to actually win the last one
