Franklin Fired

He's been on thin ice for a while now. PSU fans think of themselves as on the level of tOSU, Alabama, Georgia etc.
Whether they are, or should be, or could be, that's what a large and rabid fan base expect.
Losing to stumbling UCLA and NW at home was simply too much to tolerate.

I guess the PSU administration and boosters saw through the extraordinarily easy run to the CFP semifinals last year.

They were booing him and Sean Clifford during the intros at the Gopher/Penn State game a few years ago.

Have to imagine he'll get picked up pretty swiftly with his resume:
  • Tied for 2nd in all time wins at Penn State, 104, with Rip Engle (1950-1965)
  • Overall Record: 128-60
  • Bowl Berths: 12
  • Overall Bowl Record: 6-6
  • NY6 Bowl Berths: 5
  • NY6 Bowl Record: 3-2
  • CFP Berths: 1
  • CFP Record: 2-1
  • Penn State Record: 104-45
  • 1 Big Ten Title
  • 1 Big Ten Title Game Berth/Division Title
  • 9 Total Ranked Finishes
  • 7 Penn State Ranked Finishes
  • 5 Top 10 Finishes
  • 6 Season With 10+ Wins
Curious to see what direction Penn State will take, if they pursue a coordinator or head coach.

He'll get a job right away if he wants to continue coaching. But maybe NIL has worn on him like many others and he'll go the TV route.

Yeah, PSU is going to be paying him a lot of money not to coach. If he wants to keep coaching he will have no problem finding a willing taker but wouldn't shock me if he elects to do something else for a few seasons.

He is only 53 so he could take a few years away and still have a lot of life left in his coaching career.

Cignetti gotta be #1 target

From Pittsburgh, played at WV (just south of Pitt), first head coaching job was at IUP which has a great DII program in Pennsylvania.

Back up the Brinks truck. Blank check

They were ranked number three in the nation 15 days ago. Let that sink in.
More of an indictment of pre-season rankings being way off but yeah that is a pretty amazing fall from a team that was supposed to be in the National Championship picture to one fully out of the top 25 with their coach fired and their QB out for the rest of the season.

Interesting stats. Here’s some more from the ESPN article on his firing. They’re horrific -

And he has a clause in his contract that says that if the PSU job opens he can leave with no repucutions.

Just like the Lou Hoax clause to go to Notre Dame.

Both those statements are lies.
