Franklin Fired

If you said we could have Franklin at MN I’d say no thank you, I’d rather have Fleck.

If PJ asked me I would tell him I wouldn't swap him for Franklin.

Inside my brain tho:

Matt Rhule has the highest buyout of any college coach....unless he has a Penn State dream school clause. Not sure you pay that plus Franklin/s money plus new guy money.
Kirby Smart has a $118mm buyout. Ruhle is around $56mm

So, $48 million is the number I read..or $8 million over 6 years. But, is it wiped out or lowered if he gets a new job coaching at Virginia Tech say?

I don’t see the appeal of Rhule, he had a nice short stint at Temple, then won a bit at Baylor where others had won before him, now he’s at Nebraska where he hasn’t really done much yet, hasn’t elevated recruiting that much. He sucked in the NFL. I don’t get the love affair. His resume isn’t that impressive.

Yeah I like him.

He kinda reminds me of PJ in some ways.

But I don’t see him as proven to be a coach who earns the top tier jobs.

Penn State has been horrible the past few weeks.

But this whole playoff team a few months ago, a few weeks ago a loss vs Oregon because a knee maybe hit a few blades of grass … to FIRED.

This was insanely fast.

HAHAHA Can't make it up! Reading is not a strength I guess. He is listed first...so my visual was accurate....but they started with number 10.
Crazy
Haha, no worries.

Wasn’t trying to be a dink or a know-it-all, just wanted the right numbers out there, if these are indeed correct.

Cignetti gotta be #1 target

From Pittsburgh, played at WV (just south of Pitt), first head coaching job was at IUP which has a great DII program in Pennsylvania.

Back up the Brinks truck. Blank check
64 and in a great spot making more $$ than he'll ever need. My guess is they go hard after Rhule, even though I don't think he would be any better than Franklin.

It would seem that a number of boosters haven't liked him for awhile and were waiting for an ideal opportunity to put pressure on the AD. I agree, this seems knee-jerk. I hope whoever they land ends up being more terrible

Feels like Nebby all over again.

I agree 100%.

There's no question that the ship was moving toward dangerous waters, but in my opinion his track record should have earned him the chance to at least coach through this season and try to steer things back on course.

I don't have an issue with this, do you?

Are you saying that our favorite team might be able to poach a guy or two? Obviously that would be terrific.

Mainly I posted the story to point out that when you make a change at head coach there are always lots of other dominoes that fall, really quickly.

It feels quick but it wasn't surprising. Expectations are so high there and there has been frustration with Franklin being good but rarely getting great results for years. So when things went as sideways as they did this season it wasn't all that shocking however with that buyout I thought that might make them hold off.
