Dorky tall kid who can shoot is the best college baller in the land? I seriously doubt it. The NBA sure as hell doesn't think so and neither do I.
I can think of several players better than him.

Must have been the 8 points, 5 boards in 32 minutes against Kentucky. Few can take over a game like that.

That entire top 10 is just dumb. Boatwright probably isn't a top 15 player and Wichita St has 2 top 10 players in one backcourt apparently.

Yeah I agree. Two Wichita State players, but none from Kentucky, Arizona, Kansas, Florida, etc. Okay then.

Bo better have this as another Final 4 team or they are vastly underachieving.

Okay... I guess we can laugh all spring and summer if Wiscy only makes it to the Elite Eight or Sweet Sixteen.

So many bullschidters spew so much bullschidt.

Yeah I'm sorry I don't see this either...personally I think Dekker is a better college player

He has got to be the most over rated player in college basketball. He is alright inside and can make some wide open 3s just like every other college basketball player but there are so many better players than him.

Where is Howie to argue that Frank shoots better than squirrel??

He had a good season and then played out of his mind for a couple of games in the tournament. Most people don't watch much badgerball if they can avoid it, so their main impression of him was what he did in the tournament. That guy isn't the guy you see game in and game out.

I agree, however how well he will do in the NBA has very little to do with how good of a college basketball player he is.

Don't think he's even the best player on his team.

there are at least 5 players on Kentucky I would say are better basketball players. I'm just saying that at the next level he looks like a defensive liability who has zero ability to create his own shot.

I totally agree with the whole top ten being pretty poor. The walk-on at Whicita State and his back court mate is quite a stretch. Be interesting to see ow it all washes out by the ed of the season. I also noticed they have nearly the top 6 from Gonzaga ranked in the top 100.

I was curious about the Dekker / Kaminsky comparison (that another poster made as well) so I went to KenPom. Here are the KenPom stats where Kaminsky beat Dekker last year: ORtg, %Poss, %Shots, eFG%, TS%, OR%, DR%, ARate, TORate, Blk%, FD/40, FT%, 2pt %, 3pt %. Here are the stats where Dekker beat Kaminsky: %Min, Stl%. So I'm going to go ahead and decide that saying Dekker is better than Kaminsky is complete nonsense.

I will give you credit for being the only person in the thread to actually NAME a guy. Not that I'm saying Kaminsky is the #1 player in America, but I found that funny.

Wow interesting stat there thanks for digging that up

Name Names huh? Let's see, who would I pick before Frank if starting a team from scratch:

Okafor
Cauley Stein
Harrell from Loisville
Paige
The Harrison twins
Our boy from Apple Valley
Ashley from Arizona
Cliff Alexander
This list could get quite long and I have run out of interest in looking up names. But you get the point. Kaminsky is great in Whisky's system. Put him elsewhere and he is Joe Average.

Don't get me wrong, i hate Wisky and as far as athleticism and upside potential, there are a ton of college players i'd take before him for an NBA team, but he has the best footwork of all college big men. He is darn tough to guard when he gets the ball in the paint and he ain't a bad 3-pt shooter. Except for Okafor, there is NO big man in the country that I'd rather have going into the tourni. He strikes me as another Tyler Hansbrough, great college player, total bust at the next level.

I think that's a fair take. What he will accomplish in the NBA has no bearing on how good a college player he is. What we know about Frank is that he is an incredibly efficient scorer both inside and out. He handles it well for a big and offers rim protection on defense. That's a pretty damn good college player.

If this list holds by the end of the season, either most of those players DRASTICALLY improved or college basketball was really lacking top end talent.

I don't even think he is the best player on his team. Some of you posters are going overboard about Franks skill-set though. Kid is a legit 7 footer that has good post moves, rebounds fairly well, block some shoots, not rail thin, and can stroke 3s. Should he be number 1? No, he should be top 5 though. I still think he will have a decent NBA career just has to work on foot speed when he graduates.

I came of age during the early/mid '80s, which in my mind was the Golden Era of college basketball. During that time the best players in the nation were superstars like Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Sam Perkins, Ralph Sampson, Patrick Ewing, Akeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, Chris Mullen, Wayman Tisdale, Isiah Thomas, Scott Skiles, among many others. And now we're talking about Frank Effing Kaminsky as the best player in college basketball? He wouldn't score 10 points total in 20 games against Ewing. I still love the game as much as ever, but Lord, the changes to the NBA draft rules have sapped the game of the elite talent who used to stay in college for 2-3 years and make college hoops such a great game to watch.

As a Junior Tyler Hansbrough averaged 22.6 pts and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Over his 142 game NCAA career, Hansbrough AVERAGED 20.2 pts per game. Kaminsky has scored more than that 6 times in his 3 year career.

I guess I am not sure how this is a relevant comparison in any sense.

Well he did go first overall in our Fantasy Big Ten Basketball Draft last night.

You make a great point, Hansbrough was much more consistent player over his entire four years. That siad, I think Kaminsky will be just as important to Wiconsin in his senior year as hansbrough was in his. As for their contribution beyond college, to my other point, is well....

Kaminsky might not win POY, but ESPN wasn't far off in this case. Interesting to read the comments from before the season.
