Fleck Signs New Contract!

Nothing about the terms in there. Assume it is in line with what they have done after most seasons.

That new contract smell!

Negative, but hopefully he gives them the bonus.
Tough for anyone to give away that chunk of change but if Fleck is an "investment" guy, he certainly should assuming it would help him hang out to proven coordinators for a little bit longer.

That's probably a big assumption, though, with the way coordinators jump programs these days.

I think it's ridiculous if he doesn't give team preformance bonuses to his employees.

It drives me nuts when people compare coaches' win totals from different eras, as if 66 wins for Fleck means the same thing it meant for Henry Williams, Bernie Bierman, or Murray Warmath. I don't think Fleck is one of the most successful coaches in Minnesota football history. I think he's had one excellent season, a handful of pretty good ones, and several mediocre ones. But because the team plays twelve games in a season instead of eight, he accumulates wins faster. Remember, when Bernie Bierman or Murray Warmath won eight games, it meant they were national champions. When Fleck wins eight games, it means he's lost five.

Having said that, I don't hate Fleck, I wish him the best, and congratulations coach on your extension.

Not an extension.

The 7 and 0 at home for the first time since 1931 is a bit of hyperbole...how many seasons since 1950...so 75 years...has any team played 7 home games? Doesn't happen often I'm guessing...or has it?
Not to be lost... 7 and 0 at home is definitely cool!

Have had 7 home games going back at least to 2019. That's when I stopped checking.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single person claim fleck is better than warmath or bierman

True.
Undefeated at home for the first time since the 1960s though

"...One of the most successful coaches ever to lead the Golden Gophers..."

That's what I commented on. You only had to read to know that.

Giving statistics that are fact are simply fact. Sorry if the stats offend you.

Saying fleck has more wins than warmath isn’t a debatable statement. It’s a fact.
You said the fact needs context because warmath coached in another era. I simply stated it doesn’t really need context because nobody has said he is better than warmath.

Fleck has more wins than warmath is a different statement than fleck is better than warmath.

Regarding the 7 home games, all coaches from Brewster through Fleck had 7 home games per year (except 2020).

Mason had two seasons with 7 home games in 2002 and 2003. His last season was the season the schedules switched to 12 games permanently, but he played 6 Home and 6 Road games that year.

Beyond that, AI identifed several games in the 70s and 80s, which I double checked and confirmed only two but stumbled on a 3rd, 1981, 1985, and 1987.

AI indicated no 7-game home seasons in the 50s and 60s, but I didn't double-check.

It's safe to say that Outside of the early years, where schedules varied wildly year to year (late 1800s/early 1900s) there have been very few seasons with 7 home games (like the 3 in the eighties) due to some variation in the norms, but since 2007 it is the standard

That said, 7-0 at Home is cool, and never apologize for a win.

...was an impressive accomplishment.

It was the bare minimum expectation given how hard we had to work to beat some very bad football teams. At home. We barely met it, except for the absolute beatdown we delivered to Nebraska.

Im not trying to correct you.
There is nothing to debate
Fleck has more wins than warmath. It’s just a fact.
Nobody that I have seen says fleck was a better coach than warmath. Also a fact.

I don’t get why you’re so mad
Maybe you aren’t mad and the blah blah blah is just how you usually post

You can always look at win percentages rather than win totals when making comparisons between coaches.

And I hope some increase for position coaches.

Check out the Pair and a Spare podcast for a pretty in-depth discussion of assistants' salaries. They made the point that many of Fleck's assistants are new to coaching, so you aren't likely to pay them big bucks from the get-go. Danny Collins was a promotion from within, and only got the job because Miami gave Heatherman a bag. Why promote from within, rather than hire proven outside candidates? Well...

... Chip asked Ryan what would happen if Fleck asked for more money for assistants. Burns said, "It would take them 10 minutes to stop laughing". He made the point that Minnesota has never paid assistant coaches well, and he was pretty clear that it's not because of Fleck.

Why would any coach want to be limited by a bottom-feeder assistant coach salary limit?
At one point someone said the Gophers are vying for the bottom of the B1G in assistant salaries with Northwestern... and Northwestern just hired Chip Kelly.

Ya, I didn't give it any thought. It makes sense we routinely play 7 homes games but I spaced out. So, with an opportunity almost every year it should happen more often we win all our home games. Now, gone to kinda sad when you look at who we beat to go 7 and 0.

"Sad"? No. 7-0 is never "sad".

I guess Heather could forego a mink coat or two and let PJ pull out the personal checkbook...

AI says his total compensation is $7.9 million. Maybe just skim off a mil and get ready to fill out a slew of IRS Forms 709 to keep it all above board.

Seriously though, really looks like an Admin issue. Interesting.
