Such a dumb thing to say, if he even said it. There were numerous sellouts prior to his arrival, including each game the opening year and many others. Also, there have been numerous games where attendance exceeded current capacity when there were extra bleachers years Vikings played in stadium. Reached capacity as recently as last year. The 2015 season averaged more than 52,000 - exceeding current capacity.
 

2015 had great attendance....2016 was first year where prices were adjusted upwards

How many sellouts has the bank had ever? I honestly have no clue.

You must have read the OP incorrectly. Fleck never said the games would not sell out. Let me help you:

2010 Iowa
2012 Syracuse
2013 Iowa, Wisconsin
2015 TCU, Kent State, Ohio, Wisconsin
2019 Penn State, Wisconsin
2021 Ohio State


2010 for Iowa might have been a "sellout" but my memory of the game doesn't include that kind of capacity.

Yep. I didn't read it incorrectly. It's just his way of saying he's doing something that wasn't done before. Not that hard to figure out. It's dumb, but don't really care. Hope games continue to sell out as attendance has been relatively flat other than 2015. Fun schedule this year compared to last couple, so hopefully people show up.
 

It helps sell out the stadium to play Nebraska in August. Lots of red likely.

So, in your head, it is more likely PJ is making up an interaction to claim he's done something that's never been done before than it is that some poorly informed fan or someone who thought he wasn't going to be successful made this comment to him in passing?

I decided to look things up for a little more info, namely I remember some overcapacity games, and to see if any games with the additional Vikings capacity weren't "sellouts" but over the base capacity of the stadium:
2009, all sellouts
2010, Iowa
2011, no sellouts
2012, Syracuse
2013, Iowa (Overcapacity), Wisconsin (Overcapacity)
2014, no sellouts with larger capacity due to Vikings, however the Purdue sold more tickets than normal capacity, so that kinda counts?
2015, TCU (Overcapacity), Kent State (Overcapacity), Ohio (Overcapacity), Nebraska (Overcapacity), Wisconsin (Overcapacity). Additionally Michigan wasn't a sellout, but only about 16 tickets short of the stadium's non-vikings capacity
2016, no sellouts
2017, no sellouts
2018, no sellouts
2019, Penn State (Overcapacity), Wisconsin (Overcapacity
2020, no fans due to COVID
2021, Ohio State
2022, no sellouts

So more often than not, there is at least 1 sellout game per year. Also sometimes we sell standing room only tickets and go over capacity? I wonder what dictates when that decision is made.

Not asking you specifically, but curious why (small m) michigan was lower than Ohio and Kent State. I'm sure there's something, but just looked wierd. I would think that would get huge draws.

I mean, maybe it wasn't a random fan. Maybe it was a jaded reporter and he didn't want to call them out. Maybe it was a staff member from the previous coaching staff, who knows.

Just a guess, but I think the Kent game was like a Red Baron promotion game and Ohio was HC. It helped that there was plenty of excitement following the Citrus Bowl appearance!
