Fleck looking for new RB Coach

Nah, that's not the answer to everything Gopher football. Explain from the Wisconsin side why they'd poach Jaydon Everett? Yes, I'm sure a multi year contract for more money is why Everett left but nothing about his performance here tells me that's the guy we are going to poach if we are Wisconsin.
And Wisconsin is a sinking ship.

Gophers so far this year...
Fired Special Teams Coordinator: Bob Ligashesky
Fired Defensive Line coach: Dennis Dottin-Carter
Outside Linebackers coach Kevin Kane became the Purdue Defensive Coordinator
RB coach Jaydon Everett moved to Wisconsin

maybe hired Bobby April III to fill a spot as Rush DE coach - Stanford DC via Wisconsin
promoted a bunch of guys from within

It's odd that Wisconsin would snipe our running back coach in the year we were 17th in the B1G in rushing yards on the season and 18th in conference games. But maybe he is good at coaching RBs. 🤷

Or Wisconsin is that desperate.

Story. So why was Jaydon Everett offered a multi year contract by Wisconsin?
Why? Other than money, why do so many assistant coaches move on so quickly from PJ?

We blame the O-Line coach for not being able to run the ball. We blame the OC.
I don't recall anybody blaming the running backs coach? Yet, we did not run the ball well.
And yet this guy is offered a multi year deal by a rival?
What's going on here?
did get a pay increase, but this is weird move given the uncertainty around fickell moving forward

This is an honest question, as I dont know answer. What does a RB coach really do? Great backs rely on instinct, in my opinion, as they have to make moves and change direction in fractions of a second. They know the intended hole or general direction of intended run if a zone play.
Is it mostly recruiting? Is it working with the OC and OL coach to make sure they are on same page?
To me, RB coach is probably the least critical coach on the staff. Those that know, let me know if I'm wrong.

Best athlete does not always equal best coach.
There are a bunch of knobs on this site that think if you've never played the game at a high level you're destined to be a terrible coach (they like to use that one with Danny Collins), I'd love to see them chime in

Best athlete does not always equal best coach.
I think this is not the point to make with Mo because he was definitely NOT the best athlete and he still accumulated all those stats and accolades. He didn't have measurables or top end speed. He was great at showing patience finding the hole, waiting for it to develop and getting through it. He's the exact sort of guy to teach vision, footwork, blocking, finishing a run.

Only logical choice?
Fleck doesn't seem to have a vast network of coaches willing to work with him. I'd guess there's a pretty good reason that many of his coaching hires came via Schiano recommendations. He knows Mo, Mo knows him. I'd assume he knew he was going to hire Mo the minute the other guy was gone.

He may be the only logical choice based on your thoughts above. That doesn't mean the best choice. A small circle doesn't seem to be a positive to me.

Problem is partly related to him becoming a head coach at such a young age. Not a lot of time under other coaches to develop a bunch of relationships. Also, as noted, he is a bit of a unicorn among "football guys".

Do we know if Moe can recruit? Everett helped bring in the 3 RB’s in the 2026 class.

It's pretty common across college football for assistants to move around frequently. Money, opportunity to work with and under different coaches all comes into play.

When I think of Mo, his on-field contributions are balanced by his knowledge of injury management. Fits the Fleck scheme of life lessons.

You made my point by saying who could we pay.

Mo was a great rb. How do you know he's a great coach?
My guess is they saw some of it while he was playing and back to visit. Fleck has referred to him as "Coach Mo" more than a few times. You have to start somewhere as a coach and build that skill set.

Would love to hear DT39's take on this hiring. He has always had praise for Mo as being smart, patient, relentless and punishing.
