Fla TE Aaron Batten may commit to Gophers soon

But your criteria is exclusive to make your point.

Your looking at each of the teams in the top 25 this year and seeing how ALL of their classes ranked. Wouldn't it be more accurate to look at every team in the top 25 over the last 4 years and compare that with where the classes ranked?

I'm not clear exactly what you're saying. Are you saying average out where they finished in recruiting over over the past 4 years? Technically you could look at the last 5 classes since red shirts would still be on the team. I did the same thing for the past 2 years in that second post and I think it's clear that very few teams break through to the top 25 without at least one highly rated class.

Meh. This guy is nothing special from what I can read. With all the hype over this weekends visiting prospects I would hope the Gophers could get a 4 star or 2. In order for the program to move forward the team needs some 4 star players. Every B1G team except the Gophers has at least one 4 star for the 2013 class.

NU lost Persa, Dunsmore and Ebert(both draft picks) so their passing attack was bound to decline but also because Colter and Mark were so effective as runners. They were 3rd in rushing offense and 3rd in scoring offense. They were 8th in passing efficiency(Mn was 12th)They were #3 in rush defense and light years ahead of last years pass defense(7th in the B1G-MN 9th). They lost 4th quarter leads to 3 of the top 4 teams in the league. They lost to Michigan on a fluke Hail Mary with 18 seconds left and to Nebraska because Mark went out in the 3rd quarter and because they were basically down to 3rd string CBs allowing Nebraska to score 2 4th quarter TDs. They were #1 in turnover differential due in part to an opportune defense. They have won mostly with 3 star players I will grant you and because some of them have turned out to be difference makers. NU loses very little and will add 4 star redshirt DLs Odenigbo and Kuhar to freshman DE Dean Lowry who was a 3 star playmaker. I did not say 2 star players cannot have speed or skill but players are rated as they are for reasons and you are more likely to be successful if you can add higher rated players. Let's hope the Gophers finish the 2013 class with some top rated players.

So NW won 9 games and competed with the best in the conference with mostly 3 star players but we need 4 star players to move the program forward?
Does not compute.

Also check out the nation's leading rusher and receiver. Both 2 star athletes.

It's about finding players that fit your plan and developing them to their full potential. Some kids simply have raw ability and need time or coaching to develop.
That's the way Kill does it, 2 star, 4 star or no star.

The original subject of this thread was Batten who is a 2 star rivals and no star ESPN. As NU has demonstrated you can compete with 3 star players if some of them develop into playmakers. Simply because the leading rusher and receiver in the country were allegedly 2 star players proves nothing. Their competition and teammates have a lot to do with what any one player can do. The better high school players as rated by professional scouts will, on average, turn out to be better college players-"playmakers". It follows that if you get the better high school players you are more likely to win than if you have lesser rated players. If that does not "compute" I am not sure what will.

I wonder if Myrick gets upgraded too, he sounds worthy of another star. ESPN has him rated with Andrews as the Gophers highest rated recruit.
The post season reevaluations have started but it takes awhile especially in the Southeast, Texas, and California, because of the numbers. I think that Myrick will be upgraded to to three stars when all is said and done. Wipson's injury will likely keep him from being upgraded. Batten is also likely to get a star grade, especially if he passes the ACT, I suspect that academic questions may be why he's not rated.
