there is? was unaware this year's teams played in the Big Ten or SEC. it's the fun part that no we don't actually know that because they didn't play. it's fun you can say that and try infer it comparing random like games, but truthfully you don't. They probably would lose more games yeah becuase simple variance would say that they would.

But frankly you've already decided, as a conference, that Bama is at best your 3rd best team based on how you schedule. That was the point behind playoff expansion. Not to put in the 4th and 5th best conference teams but to give everyone access and to see what happens on the field.

it's part of what's wrong in how the CFP mission criteria are written in that what they say they're trying to do makes no sense with next to no cross over data each season. sure you can quote massey rankings and SP+ but then what is the point of playing any game on the field each year? I'm sure Bama's ratings prior to playing Vandy were right in line with what the point spread was

To me I'm more interested in seeing who the best team in the country is and this CFP field does that better in who it includes. If the B10 and SEC want to go hide and play by themselves, think it's going to see a lot of people tune out and hurt their overall revenue/desirability
 

So one of my hopes happened (Indiana and Notre Dame), which could go anyway. And I like SMU vs Penn St. That has lots of possibilities. The other 2 games, I don't much care about.
 


Penn State's path to the title game looks very doable. I'm not that impressed with Georgia this year.

Indiana at 10 means the committee must've looked at SOS hard in terms of seeding. IU steamrolled their whole schedule with their only loss AT Ohio State. IMO that game was not as bad as the final score with OSU getting a punt return for a TD and IU's punter fumbling a snap and handing OSU a TD......
 

I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised that there were no shenanigans to get Alabama in there at last second. I hope these games are entertaining!
 





I was impressed with Arizona State, but I just don’t think having Boise and Az a 3 and 4 seed? Why bother seeding, it’s just selecting. Politically correct instead of looking for the best team.

I’m just not impressed, that said, nearly an impossible task, I think.

I doubt it because doing so will devalue half those 30 teams. Somebody has to lose the games played. That league would pretty quickly move to the mean a couple ways. One where there are 4-6 really good teams, 4-6 pretty bad teams and a jumble of the rest on the middle. The other where parity takes over and you have a pretty large majority of teams with 3-4 losses

All I know is SEC brass, after not getting the highest amount of bids, are at a Waffle House discussing a breakaway league as I type this

just because it got me curious as to how they're doing the payouts for this

With the new 12-team playoff comes a new revenue distribution model. For 2024-2025, here’s how much each team will make in the College Football Playoff:

  • $4 million for each of the 12 teams that makes the College Football Playoff
  • $4 million for each of the 8 teams that makes the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals
  • $6 million for each of the 4 teams that makes the College Football Playoff Semifinals
  • $6 million for each of the 2 teams that makes the College Football Playoff National Championship Game
Additionally, each team who participates in the College Football Playoff receives $3 million to cover expenses for each round.

Additionally, each conference receives $300,000 for each of its schools whose football team meets the NCAA’s APR for participation in a postseason football game. Each independent institution also receives $300,000 if its football team meets the same standard.

Would be awesome
If the SEC does this the rest of the teams should say great and play college football with the 121 teams remaining. Keep the playoff format exactly as is.
The big ten would get 4-5 of the 7 at larges every year.
