FCS Championship Game

Hahahaha I took a flight to New Mexico today and we had a stop in Dallas. I was surrounded by NDSU fans/players on that first flight. SURROUNDED. I happened to be wearing a heather green sweatshirt with yellow accents and was asked where I was staying. Lol. I'm not a packers fan either. It is just a cool sweatshirt.

Didn't someone once say 'you are what you wear'?

A single thread talking about a football game is fine. Good luck to the Fighting Sioux program tomorrow and their fans in the FCS Championship Game.

Well, you're certainly from Minnesota, as you're showing your massive passive-aggressiveness.

You're nothing more than a NDSU pimp. Go to the NDSU board and have a field day. YOU ARE IN NO WAY A MINNESOTA FAN AND I'M CALLING YOU ON IT.

I'm a loyal Gophers fan with a bachelors and masters degree from the Carlson School ('83 and '98). Like others on this board, I just happen to be interested in how NDSU moved up a level and quickly became a national power, at the FCS level, due in large part to players from Twin Cities area high schools.

Enough about me. Let's focus on today's game. I'd be interested in hearing TexasAggie11's view on Sam Houston State, since his team beat them by 19 points in November.

I find some of the reactions on this thread comical. It is possible to have an interest in all local/regional football happenings across MN and many posters are interested in all of it.

I chose not to attend the U because I still had an itch to play football and attended a MIAC school. I grew up in west central MN, attending both Bison and Gopher games with my Dad on a frequent basis. Bison games were fun because they were at the height of their D2 dominance. Gopher games were fun because my Dad grew up when the Gophers WERE the toast of the town and he took great pride in exposing me to all the traditions of the U.

To some of you my season tickets in a donation section at TCF, at a school i never attended, still don't make me a true Gopher fan because I too am highly interested in NDSU's athletic evolution. I am also the exact type of fringe observer Norwood hopes to sway by the tens of thousands. I have a hunch had the Gophers piss-pounded the Bison like a FBS school should against a FCS school none of these pissing matches would exist. Fact is NDSU strolled down I94 and punched our favorite B1G squad in the jaw on multiple occasions and that is what's causing the bitterness.

I ignore a ton of threads on this board and don't understand how others can't do the same?

Eagan: Minnesota 17, Texas Tech 45

Indeed we will. North Dakota State has over 30 players from Minnesota, including two 1st team All-Americans (Marcus Williams and Billy Turner). Georgia Southern has ZERO Minnesota players.

After a scoreless 2nd half, it's a final.
NDSU wins 14-7.

Halftime score from Fargo:
North Dakota State 14, Wofford 7
The winner plays Georgia Southern in the semi-finals.

On Saturday afternoon, North Dakota State will host the Wofford Terriers. Last Saturday, Wofford beat New Hampshire 23-7. We beat New Hampshire 44-7 early in the season. There's your Gophers angle...

For those of you who care, defending FCS national champions North Dakota State takes on South Dakota State in their first playoff game of the season today at 3:00 on ESPN 3.

Eagan: Minnesota 17, Michigan State 24

Eagan: Minnesota 10, Nebraska 45

Eagan: Minnesota 24, Illinois 27

Eagan: Minnesota 9, Michigan 41

Eagan: Gophers 17, Purdue 42

Eagan: Wisconsin 41, Minnesota 9

Eagan: Northwestern 24, Minnesota 21

Eagan: Iowa 24, Minnesota 9

Eagan: Syracuse 31, Minnesota 24

Eagan: Western Michigan 31, Minnesota 24

Eagan: New Hampshire 27, Minnesota 24

Speaking of North Dakota State, that was an inpressive 52-0 win for the defending national champions.

Speaking of Minnesota high school kids playing for schools outside the state, does anyone know which of them are headed to the Dakota schools?

Not much talk about "marching back to Pasadena" lately.

Bison in championship game this Saturday: For those of you interested in local college football, today's game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and KFAN at noon.

I am not the one of whom you speak (although I would be flattered to be compared with the great Art Vandelay). I am a Loyal Gopher with two degrees from the Carlson School and season tickets in...

Were these two players offered a scholarship to play at the U of M? To any Big 10 school? Do you really feel that NDSU out-recruited the 'U' for these players?

Best wishes to our friends in Fargo as they play for a national championship against Sam Houston State this Saturday!

Any estimates on how many Bison fans were in the Bank?

Welcome to the ignore list.

Yea, I have to admit that I saw the movie Dumb and Dumber. I will always remember the scene where they pull into Aspen on their moped. One of them had to pee during the ride and so he did. Since it was winter he ended up frozen to the other (Not sure if it was Dumb or Dumber). I am afraid I did laugh when they got off the moped.

A&M was up 47-0 on Sam Houston State early in the 3rd quarter. Would have easily been a 68-0 final if they chose to run up the score.

So is this the gameday thread or will there be another one added soon?

So if some fracking magnate gets a bug up his butt and decides to fund 88 scholarships so NDSU can go D1 would a rah-rah thread like this be appropriate here? It's only ok because it's FCS?

If you really are such a fan of NDSU why don't you just go over to their board? I am sure you will find everything you are seeking over there. As far as I know this blog is still called the GopherHole and not the BisonHerd.

Well, that's one way to spend a Saturday morning.

I checked it out, Killjoy. The only ones there are trash talking smart assed young upstarts and make no sense at all.

So we will try talk here on GopherHole, that has some resemblance of sanity.

Loyal Gophers fan? LOLWUT?

+1 I just wonder if FanSinceTheFifties understands why that will always be the case. Here is a clue though, it the same reason why there are many undrafted players that make it to the NFL. It is also the same reason why several two star players have been All-Americans. It's is also why you really don't know how good your recruiting class is until several years later. Thank god, otherwise football wouldn't be the great sport it is.

So to be successful recruiting at a school like Minnesota which isn't the top choice of top recruits, we need to be better than others at identifying those underrated prospects to which you refer. And we should have the advantage on kids from our neighborhood.

That is why they have camps and junior days. In addition they scout players, look at their film, talk to people about them, etc. The reality is though that choosing recruits is not an exact science. Some players improve after high school more than others. Some don't have the grades etc. But don't worry, the "experts" here along with the Monday morning quarterbacks will be sure to point out the ones that did well but didn't go to Minnesota. Get over it!

Cameron Botticelli, Mike Henry, David Schwerman, Jordan Wettstein, Mike Rallis, Caleb Bak, Jon Christenson, and Zac Epping are all some examples of local players who were walk-ons or not highly recruited who made good contributions to the Gophers this year.

This bolded comment is more important than some of the GH experts can comprehend.

Ah, now I understand. You don't mind NDSU, you just don't want them in your neighborhood. There is a word for that but I can't remember what it is. I think it starts with R. Just be careful what you do. The next thing that will happen is that you will find is a hole in your chain link fence.

Impressive repeat for nodak. Game sucked though. Reusse has been spouting off all day about the gophers and bison doing an annual game. One year at tcf. One year at Vikings stadium. Even though it would be a rare well attended non conference game I say NO THANKS.

Congrats to the Bison. Pretty impressive what they have done up there on the river valley.
