Extend Claeys Now!

Not when Brian Kelly will be available.

That may be slightly premature.

I think he is well on his way to the required 3 Big Ten wins to secure a job long term.
It's all we required before, and he's definitely on track making us proud.

EXTEND CLAEYS!

Claeys notched another win.

Now it will be awkward if we fire him.

So we'll have to wait for our 6-6 season next year to restart this conversation.

If Coyle really has someone else in mind to take over it really isn't too far of a stretch for Claeys to be let go. He benefited from an extremely soft schedule. He won the games he should have won and lost the ones he should have lost. The recruiting class is nothing to be really excited about and the overall buzz behind this team is really lacking. The attendance yesterday for senior day was abysmal. If he goes out and beats Wisconsin, I'm on board but if we drop that game than I'm indifferent and will be interested to see what Coyle does.

Yes let's continue our tradition of finding coaches that have top 25 recruiting classes and consistently provide us 10+ win seasons.

Fire Claeys. We need to get back to who we were.

Tell me who are 6 losses are next year?

Again, it comes back to one's standard of performance. If finishing a consistent #3 or #4 in the division is acceptable, I think he's got a reasonable shot at doing that. If finishing a consistent #1 or #2, then start looking for a replacement.

shut up about contract talk - we have the biggest game of our season on saturday so lets talk about that

As one of the frozen few (it wasn't that bad and I got a sporty new hat- thanks Remington, Leupold, ATN, Sportsman's Guide) Tracy and staff delivered on what they were supposed to do for the season. Please give Tracy a two year extension so he can continue to recruit the players needed for the system.

This team has eight wins three of the last four season to date under the Kill/Claeys era 2010 to present. The best that they have done in a short time in the modern era. Glenn Mason in ten seasons had two 8-win & one 10-win season.

Yet, some people are calling for Claeys to be fired.

We have promising young talent on offense and defense for next season. They lost to PSU in OT 29-26, and to Iowa and Nebraska by a TD. These are games that could have gone the other way.

The kids bought into the Kill/Claeys system. They have graduated more kids in a long time, and improved the APR ranking albeit there have been some off field issues.

Be careful what you wish for.

Be ware of snake oil salesmen (Brewster, Teague).

Also, how do we know the replacement will pan out? Charlie Strong did not pan out in Texas. So did Brady Hoke at Michigan who apparently was on a lot of people's list to replace Brewster.

All in all, I think the Gophers did well with the talent that they have and have improved the football team & culture in so many intangible ways.

Cleays deserves an extension. He is not flashy or charismatic. I am not complaining as long as he continues to get Ws. The contract extension is critical for recruiting.

If the Gopher go out and beat Wisconsin next weekend, there will be no doubters.

Yes. Double-down on this.

What a silly thread. You wait until after next week. Should of saved your thread til after next Saturday. What is one halfway decent reason to do it NOW?????

Recruiting. If they wait until next week and lose to wisconsin (for the record I think he should get an extension either way but that's just me) then when do they wait for? After the bowl game? If you were a highschool kid would you consider signing with a school with an unknown coach? I wouldn't unless that school was my only choice anyway.

Fire Claeys. Hire Ed Orgeron. You heard it here first.

How about this for a crazy scenario... Coyle has a guy in his hip pocket. And is just waiting for the season to play out. BUT, Claeys and Co. win in Madison against a top 10 Badger team. Not only would Coyle have a hard time moving his chess pieces after a 9-3 regular season by a first year head coach, but an extension also gets a lot more expensive.

I think based on what I know about college football, I would offer him a 3 year extension that has a very low buyout.

If he has success the next two years you give him a "real" extension.

If he decides he needs more money to sign an extension you either just let it ride or you let him go

Yep. Let's be real, this was not an impressive season. We have a more typical schedule with this team and we have 5-6 wins. Claeys hasn't proven anything and the start of the season was really, really rough.

I think he's done enough to get extended but do it in a fiscally responsible way. They will not be leaving for a better opportunity anytime soon, thus no reason to do a Pitino-type deal and hamstring our ability to get out of the contract if he bellyflops.

Im on board with claeys the next two years - i believe expecting 16 wins over the two seasons would be appropriate and the 'next step' for the program

Agreed. Hopefully at least 7 next year and 9+ in 2018

You probably had a solid take in there Bulldog. It's just that after "Claeys and Co. win in Madison against a top 10 Badger team" I just started smiling and wishing so I couldn't finish reading it. :)

My fault. I should have stopped typing after that sentence.

claeys understands that bowl games are important - they are big stages against (usually) a quality opponent. im crossing my fingers for the holiday bowl it would be great to play in san diego against a quality pac12 team

Hadn't seen a good oxymoron recently, thanks for that!
