Everything Anti-Pitino Discussion...... Please put it all here and not in other threads.

It was Coyle's choice to retain RP, correct? Is Coyle responsible for the results of the U of MN athletic teams? Or are you saying the BOR is the responsible party for athletic teams results?

Oh - provide my quote, please.

So if Coyle wants to make a change, but there is not a budget for it and he knows the board of regents won't approve the buyout is it really a choice?

Answer the questions as posed and provide my quote, 1984.

And yes, EVERYTHING is a choice.

It's a message board, find a better tone man.

I'll admit I'm lazy and don't feel like looking it up, but it was in a fire Pitino thread from either this February or March where you and I had the same/similar discussion. So he should fire the basketball coach and lose his job? Sometimes your choice has to be different than your preference. It doesn't make you bad at your job if the people above you are the ones not allowing you what to choose.

Hold on 1984, I asked you a few questions which you have not attempted to answer. My tone is unacceptable to you, why? YOU made the claim in the posts above and now I need a better tone?

Why wont you answer my questions?

Is it a sure thing that Coyle was planning to fire Pitino? Or speculation?

OMG You can be concrete and linear. My answers are in bold. Hopefully this will help you calm down and maybe you can answer questions that get given back to you.

It was Coyle's choice to retain RP, correct? In this case no because there was no choice. Richard's firing was not going to get approved.

Is Coyle responsible for the results of the U of MN athletic teams? He's responsible overall yes. It's obvious that if he wanted to go a different result and was told no because of other reasons, he'd not get held accountable however. Especially since it was not his hire in the first place.

Or are you saying the BOR is the responsible party for athletic teams results? They are in a sense and they are responsible for the vision of the university. The expectations and results of the athletic department at no cost do not fit this BOR's vision unlike other places (Texas football for example).

I'm so sick of Pitino's "funny" Twitter posts. Who does this guy think he is anyways? Tim Miles?

Thank you.

The choice that was made was to retain RP, regardless of reasoning. That was a choice, the choice.

Coyle is responsible. You appear to be giving him a pass for the results of the upcoming season because 1)he did not hire RP and 2)the BOR will not hold him accountable for the upcoming season. Plausible and it opens the door to many other excuses, imo.

And if I understand your final point correctly, $$ play a large part in how the U of MN operates and makes decisions while other universities do not have the same considerations. OK - if that is the case, then the playing field just titled a bit more against the U of MN.

I don't hold Coyle responsible and I do give Coyle a pass. I hold Richard Pitino responsible. I suspect if we endure a season with similar results to this one, Coyle and the BOR will move on. If they don't, then I think we as fans have fair gripe to blame all 3.

The playing field is tilted against us and has been for awhile. Kaler did his best to improve that and get us closer, but we are still behind many places in facilities and donations.

No - it wasn’t fully Coyle’s choice this year to retain Pitino. He has to get the buyout cleared with Gabel and the Regents, which wasn’t going to happen.

College football isn’t the NFL. The Wilfs own the Vikings and can do whatever they want.

Coyle doesn’t own anything, he’s a paid employee. There are limits to what he can do.

Thought I heard their were rumors about Coyle potentially making his rounds to meeting w/ coaches around that end of the year, or at least had some meetings set-up. It seemed like there was a chance Coyle was going to make the move this year but corona totally shut it all down which is fair. All the uncertainty with it at first, coaches with families, etc. But I don't think anybody on here has said or knows for sure which way he was going if virus never happened? Seems like its all speculation. Could be wrong.

Now answer the other two questions, salty

Coyle is a paid employee. College fb is not the nfl. No shit, sherlock.

If Coyle made the case for dismissal and hiring a new coach, the BOR would have a choice to make.

This is going great....

Has anyone else noticed that many of the other threads have been fun to read again? It could just be that we are in a hot spot for recruiting...

It sounds like he did make a case for dismissal and they said no. Or he read the room.

Pitino is never in a hot spot for recruiting. It’s more like a cold bowl of oatmeal.

Glad you keep stopping bye to check out an active thread. Other than this one it’s pretty sleepy in here...

Lol I came in here to check things out. Same old stuff! Glad you started it. I'm enjoying other threads again and wont be coming back to this one.

Will Pitino go 0-8 in Minnesota recruiting this year? You would think that would be impossible, but he has a decent chance to pull it off.

The Athletics Director made the choice to keep him, even if he goes 0-8.

One of the odd things about Pitino is that - just when it looks like he is in real trouble - he has managed to come up with some decent seasons.

going into 2020-21 - with Oturu gone - expectations are going to be extremely low. Even if Carr comes back.

So - if the Gophers can just be OK - not great, but just OK - Pitino comes out looking good by comparison.

So much of how coaches are perceived has to do with expectations. If you expect a team to be great, and they're only good, the coach looks bad.

But, if you expect a team to be dog crap, and they manage to look somewhat competent, the coach looks good.

So, I think there is a chance that Pitino can keep his job if he just manages to look somewhat competent. A low bar, to be sure.
