ESPN1500 [speculates] Summlin

you probably are correct about them. All that said, a new stadium does not sell tickets--winning football games and being relevant does. The right coach can create the right environment for both.

dpodoll68: Are you telling me that TCF stadium is what the Gophers need for success? You are probably on the search committee. The stadium is half full, tickets are easy to come by and there is ZERO vibe in the building. Sorry, you and Dave Mona should keep your head buried in the sand. Have you ever been to Gainsville, Camp Randell, OSU, or Texas? The Gophers need a great game coach, commitment from the administration, and a coach with some PAZAZ and Charisma to make the program relevent again.

Pazaz is about the last thing they should be worried about. If they hire a quality coach who wins games fans will come. Tressel is about as exciting as your wife and a coach like that would pack them to the rafters.

What about 2010?

(Where the hell did all the new season ticket buyers come from? Were they expecting the Gophers to achieve great things in 2009?)

I am not sure you noticed but the Gophers only sold out 1 single game this season. 2009 the team was expected to get to a bowl game and though they didnt have the greatest year it was expected to be something. This year most thought we would be bad the experts hit the nail on the head. The new stadium didnt bring in the fans not at a sell out level.

Please show me where I said any of those things. Thanks in advance.

P.S. The stadium isn't new anymore.

A pass-happy coach coming off a losing season and with only three years as HC! If there is any truth to this, we are in for five bad years followed by a similar crisis. I can't believe the U of M can't do better than Sumlin.

I can't believe you all are so wrong on Sumlin. But he probably doesn't look the part.

Almost a whole month without any of your race-baiting. Oh, where has the time gone?

I didn't even know Sumlin's race until today and I've not been enthused about him at all because:

a) I want someone who has a record of having good defenses
b) I want a proven winner from a conference more significant than C-USA (both the MAC and MWC are much more significant in recent years)

I was just trying to get a reaction of dpodoll.

You really had never seen Sumlin prior to today? If you know so little about him I'm not sure if you have enough information to make an evaluation.

Here what your dealing with on the Gopherhole as you well know:

1. Any hire by Maturi is going to suck.
3. Any hire not named Leach is going to suck.
4. Discussion of getting Sumlin after the Texas Tech win last year or better yet, after the Rice game when they were 10-2 with wins over Okie State, Texas Tech and a 50-43 loss to Mullen's Mississippi State would have been very positive.
5. Discussion now after they've lost 6 out of 8 and 9 out of 14 is going to be pretty negative.
6. This is a board where Horton couldn't get out of town fast enough after his first three losses and after the Iowa game a lot of people want to crown him with the job.

You don't need the race card to explain the bi-polar climate around here.

I get it.

No, I never looked at a picture of the guy but had just read about his style of offense. And it's not that I don't think he could be a good head coach at this level, but I don't think he's proven it yet.

Also, just my personal preference of wanting someone a bit more defensive-minded. If we're going aerial assault, we ought to just throw caution to the wind and get Leach.

He might be the perfect guy for us in the long-run, but he still is a lightweight candidate. We can do better imo.

The word on Sumlin before was that he wouldn't bring that offense to Minnesota. Not sure if that changed or not.

He's not first on my list either but I think he's a quality guy.

Same here. I would be happy with Sumlin. I wouldn't be through the roof, but deep down, I think he could be successful here.

I do not want to witness any more bad defense!!

Total Defense Houston 104 out of 120.

By the way, Minnesota is 75
