Actually - no, you didn't. Someone throwing out their best guess is a lot different than "ESPN1500 Reports Summlin [sic]".

1500ESPN reports that Sumln is going to be named coach ---stay tuned for an official announcement.


Thats a whole hell of a lot different then Reusse thinks Summlin is going to be the coach...and the Gophers will announce it soon.

Nope, you said that ESPN1500 is reporting that Sumlin WILL be named HC and an announcement is coming soon. It's ok, we've all grown skeptical of everything until we see any confirmation here. But you got the attention you were looking for.

In comparison to some of the other names, Sumlin is not on the top of the list. He has some accomplishments in regard to offense, but really needs a different DC.
 


Souhan was just speculating as well with the guy from the Associated Press. The AP guy says he's hearing 100 different things like us.

Souhan said if the top 5 guys have turned us down, Trestman or Leach need to be offered the job right away.

Reusse Speculation--Not Reporting

Reusse and the AP guy on his radio show conversation on the coaching search. The AP guy had no name so Reusse speculated (guess) that Sumlin will be the name.He has no 1st hand knowledge and thinks they should name him on Friday so they get the weekend coverage in the media. What he has not thought about was the fact that the leading candidate may or may not be coaching this weekend.

Since Sumlin was not linked to turning down the Gophers in the last few days and the fact that Sumlin's season is over , thats how he arrived at Kevin Sumlin being the hire.The AP guy agreed with his suggestion because he has just as little information and thought it sounded good. This guy sounded like a Robin to Batman I thought. Laughable

I wouldn't put too much stock in this . It may turn out to be correct , but may not be correct at all.
 

So UFFDA, in other words---There is a 50 to 50 chance...either he is the new coach or he isn't........

ESPN1500 did not REPORT a thing. Patrick simply gave his opinion.

Except the only factual part is that this was Reusse's opinion. That's where the facts began and ended. And noting that you don't know the difference between opinion and reporting doesn't mean we're taking ourselves too seriously. It means that you were incorrect with your original post and got called on it. Nothing more.
 

So it was Reusse's turn on the AM1500 "I'm gonna tweet a Gopher Coach guess and whip everyone on GopherHole Up" board?

This station is far more interested in speculating and "breaking news" (which they don't) than actually entertaining

Reusse Opinion/Prediction Only

My interruption was that Reusse originally predicted that Sumlin was the guy a month ago, he thinks that he will still be the guy. He said he thinks Hoke will hold out for another year so he can get a better job because Minnesota is not a good job.

Reusse has been extermely critical of University of Minnesota football for over 20 years at least.Thats one reason I dislike him. He is very smug. He loves to criticize Minnesota sports. He is always negative.
 

Reusse just speculated that negotiations are going on with someone. He doesn't know who.
 


Uffda: Joel Maturi should be criticized. He has taken all the major sports programs "short of hoops" into the tank. I hope Leach is our guy. Maturi thinks that a new stadium is going to make people care about Gopher Football. The Gophers need a personality to invigorate the program because most people in Minnesota don't give a rats butt about Gopher football. The team needs someone like a Lou Holtz type to bring a track record and some energy into the program. Leach fits that mold more than any of the other candidates mentioned.

I am hardly in Maturi's camp. I still can't agree with him firing Mason after extending him and the hiring a TE's coach from the NFL without HC experience. He also extended Pam Borton's contract for Women's BB. I didn't think he should make this Football coach hire.

I support hiring Mike Leach for coach. I am not opposed at all. When did I state that?

I simply am telling GHers that Reusse was speculating in a lazy manner not considering the 19 games being played this weekend. I don't know the candidates---- but it sounds like hte search is waiting until after these games have been played. That was the timeline they chose for their secret reasons.

I see you quoted Reusse and Souhan almost verbatim about Leach. They have not stated those thoughts before and only now I would guess so they can undermine the anticipated hiring of Sumlin. Why haven't they been pushing for Leach before today? Both Souhan and Reusse are smug in their criticism of Gopher Football. Reusse has not attended any games for years.
