I just talked to Ernie Heifort, who I recently did a story on. He will visit Minnesota this weekend and is planning on driving down with his family tonight after his sister's hockey game tonight.

Yeah, I don't think a ton of the outstate kids are going to make it, probably even the ones in the cities could be iffy.

I heard that Heifort is coming down tonight after his sisters hockey game. They schould make it before the storm gets really wound up.

I drove through a snowstorm last Friday & regret it. I spent many hours feeling like I was at the end of the Buddy Holly story. For Heifort & his family's sake, I almost hope he doesn't make it for tonight. If you're not already on the road, just hole up for the night somewhere & hit the road tomorrow bright & early in the daylight after the plows have passed & the salt has been laid.

Excuse my ignorance but what position does he play?

LB/DE.....I's the million dollar question. Purely based on conjecture, I believe he played LB as a Jr & was a tackling machine. This year I've heard (?) he played more of a stand up DE in a 3-4. At any rate his heart or tackling ability are not questioned. Most scouts believe he's too slow for LB at the Big-10 level & too small for the DE position. I'm ok taking an "Up North" kid to show the area some love, especially if I'm a new Head Coach. My unofficial projection is he might be a special teams Captain at some point.

He's precisely the type of player who might prefer to opt for a NDSU situation. If he does I'll still root for him.

If he can add some weight, he may be able to play DE in the Big 10. I'm not making a direct comparison with JJ Watt, but let's remember Watt was a 240 pound TE/DE coming out of high school. He goes about 290 now and has maintained the requisite quickness. That's the future I see for Heifort. Whether or not he will perform as well as Watt remains in question, but I think Heifort can contribute at the Big 10 level.

no, it really doesn't

Again, i just don't think he has the explosiveness to play LB or DE. I think he is a DT recruit. It's tough to tell how good he is because his competition is awful, and he almost always seems to take a couple "jogs steps" towards the runner before he kicks it in. Not enough straight line speed to be a LB, and not a good enough first step to be an end. From what it sounds, he is a hard worker, and could be a a solid player in the middle.
