I apologize if this has already been posted, but I just saw this on Scout:

Change of Mind

Here are a few highlights:
MADISON - Having camps in East Lansing on Friday, another one in DeKalb on Sunday and an important one in Minneapolis this upcoming weekend, Kenosha Tremper lineman Zac Epping was not feeling motivated to come up to a one-day camp at Wisconsin earlier this week.

So Epping, a three-star prospect and the 35th-ranked defensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com, decided to stay home and rest up.

“I was going to, but I decided not to. I am still trying to decide if I am going to go next week,” Epping told Badger Nation. “I wanted to go to the one-day camp, but (my heart) wasn’t in it.”

“I have a good relationship with the coaches from Minnesota and we’ve developed a good relationship through the process,” Epping (6-foot-3, 275 pounds) said. “I really like the campus, especially the new football stadium. Minnesota facilities are amazing. It meant a lot getting that early offer in the mail. It meant a lot that they ranked me so high.

Although Epping admitted that he wouldn’t mind getting an offer from Wisconsin, all indications that Epping feels that UW isn’t the best fit for him anymore.

“I like to get an offer from Wisconsin, but I don’t think I want to go there anymore,” he said. “They don’t rank as high on my list. I would like to make my decision before the season so it doesn’t get in the way of all the fun of my senior year. Right now, I want to play out of state and experience something different.”

It is hard to cool on someone that has never been offered a scholarship.

The Badgers have offered 7 in state players and just offered a lineman that was in camp this week. It is very unlikely that he would get an offer now. That may change if he decides to come to camp next week and impresses the coaches.

If we don't offer, I hope he goes to Minnesota.

He's a DT?? We could really use a few of those! Come on over Zac.

I love how Bielema and his staff insist on in-person evaluations of players before they offer them scholarships. What master analytic abilities they must possess. Seriously, what a bunch of douches.

Just another reason to hate Wisconsin.

Maybe Bielema isn't too good with evaluating talent. Performance on the field is starting to show it.

I understand your hate for Wisconsin, given the Gophers 2-12 record vs the Badgers the last 14 years. However, to hate them because the coaching staff has camps and offers some players based on their performance at those camps is kind of funny.

Maybe if the Gophers coaches analyzed the players they offered scholarships a little better, the 2-12 record would be a little better.

and Minnesota was 8-3 in the 11 before that..

Bulimia has been coach in what, 3 games? BFD. This series has always been streaky. At the end of the day the number that really matters is 6-0.

Yeah Baby!

A few weeks ago somebody suggested that the space on the back of the scoreboard on either or both sides of the Block M be used for bragging about National Championships and Big Ten titles... Does anyone know if this is being considered?

There is a lot of empty space up there, and it would be perfect to remind the world on a regular basis of the gophers "tremendous" history and what they are striving to achieve again!

i hope the badgers have cooled on him. if we can lock him up then we would have two of the top six wisconsin recruits for 2009, according to Scout. the number 4 and 6 players in wisconsin would be playing in minnesota.

to go along with that, minnesota has a real shot at wisconsin's #7 and #10, Eggen and Cunningham.

Yeah, it's real unfortunate that Brewster didn't have a 12-1 team handed to him on a silver platter. It's also too bad that Bielema's team keeps getting better every year, just like Brewster's. Oh, wait...

This is the only relevant record at this point: 0-2. That is Brewster's record against Bielema. You will note that the first of those two games was against one of the worst Gophers teams ever, where the Badgers managed to beat the pathetic Gophers by a touchdown. And the second game was a home game, where the Badgers managed a 3-pt win in spite of themselves. You can rest assured that will be changing in Brewster's favor over the next few seasons, starting with a Gopher victory in TCF this fall.

I don't hate the fact that Wisconsin only offers kids that come to their camps. I hate the fact that they're doing it because it's so stupid. It's not like they're Texas or USC. They don't have kids lining up waiting for offers from them, so I don't understand their arrogance in insisting that kids must travel to Madison in order to be graced with an offer from the master recruiter. In fact, I hope they keep doing it. Way to limit your pool of potential signees, dumbass. Next he should insist all of his skill recruits run a 4.3 and all of his line recruits bench 500. Whatever he can do to limit the talent pool is okay with the master recruiter. Man, just picturing his dumb, fat face in my head makes me want to take a trip down I-94 and punch him.

Since you're such a fan of statistics, here's some more:

National Titles: Minnesota 6, Wisconsin 0
Big Ten Titles: Minnesota 18, Wisconsin 11
All-Time Winning %: Minnesota .580, Wisconsin .563
All-Time Border Battle: Minnesota leads 57-45-8

Even after winning 12 of the last 14, Wisconsin still trails by 12 games. Man, that's gotta hurt. Come back and talk some more smack when Wisconsin wins its 6th national championship, or its 18th conference title. Yeah, good luck with that.

Unless you're trying to compare BA to Mason in recruiting your statements make very little sense considering Brewster has had 1 class that he recruited hit the field and Bielema has had 2.

My God, you need to lighten up. You may have a coronary before you are 30.

How many of those national championships were you alive for? How about Big 10 championships. How have those 6 national championships helped the program in the last 50 years? Bragging about 6 national championships in the 30's is like a Badgers fan bragging about the NCAA basketball title in 1941. It is fun to talk about, but it is meaningless today.

The Badgers have lost one or two in state guys they have offered in the last 18 years. I think their system is working just fine.

Pressure will be on Punky and the boys big time this year. Imagine losing the first Big Ten game at the new stadium to the Badgers. Punky may not be able to recover from that.

I see. And highlighting Badgers victories from 14 years ago are meaningful? Hmm. Good to know.

We haven't been properly introduced. My name is Kettle. What did you say your name was again? Pot? Oh, nice to meet you.

Just as meaningless as cheesheads bragging about nfl championships in the 30s.

I hope all you whisky fans keep being apologists for bielame-o. It just makes the Gophs job easier and adds 1 more victory for us. Enjoy your loooong slide.

This type of rebuttal is ridiculous. That's like saying WWI or the Korean War was meaningless and all that matters is Afghanistan today. Or how your HS diploma is meaningless because it was so long ago too.

Your analogy is like saying "well we lost the game but at least we won the 4th quarter". You're gloating about a moral victory, nothing more. Fact is, everything is a step in the process, and we've had more strides replacing steps than your program has.

6-0 on the national stage, 57-45 head to head. Deal with it.

Trolls, Trolls, Trolls

Don't give these cheese turds the time of day.

Just so I get this straight, bragging about 6 national championships in the 30's is the same as talking about the last 14 meetings in the series?

Also, you didn't answer this question. How have those 6 national championships helped out the program in the last 50 years?

I am a Vikings fan.

How has it been adding those victories against Bielema so far?

Let me know when Punky wins 9 games in a year, let alone 12.

Only 3 of the 6 were in the thirties btw, but don't let facts get in the way. Claiming those national titles are meaningless is spoken like a true fan of a program who has no history to be proud of. Go ask fans of Notre Dame, Texas, or Michigan if their national titles from way back are meaningless and see what they tell you.

If we don't offer, I hope he goes to Minnesota.

-- He said if they don't offer he hopes he comes here, it seems like we jumped on him a bit, maybe he is a Badger fan first, Gophs fan second (have to admit I don't monitor his writings so I don't know if he trolls the board or not)? He said he was a Vikes fan so its not like he Hates MN(not that I care cause I'm from Minny and hate the Vikes, and all of the NFL for that matter). I'm just saying ....

-- What in state (WI) players have the Badgers offered? Just out of curiosity (sorry, don't have subscription so I can't see that stuff).

any badger fan who thinks losing in state guys or neglecting in state guys or assuming in state guys are a lock, might want to check out our last coach's recruiting classes, we lost key guys in state some to the badgers, some to the pig farmers down south, and it killed our depth and relationship with HS coaches, if Brew picks up Parrish, Epping, Eggen, maybe Cunningham from Hudson, that will eventually catch up with your program, 2-3 years down the line. I know of in state MN guys who left because they weren't really feeling the in state loyalty factor and it wasn't a big deal to their coaches, neighbors, teammates if they took off to the rival state.
Just a warning on the downplaying of this part of recruiting.

In addition to what you've just said, I want to add that all of this got started because I commented on Bielema's recruiting practices. I am of the opinion (and I will not be dissuaded on this) that it is colossally stupid to insist that players attend camp before you offer a scholarship. I don't know whether this has hurt Bielema as of yet. Rest assured that it will, at some point, negatively affect his recruiting if he insists on maintaining this practice.

Oh, and GV, you have to just be baiting us by saying that 6-0 is meaningless. You can't really mean it. You can't possibly be that idiotic.

"Oh, and GV, you have to just be baiting us by saying that 6-0 is meaningless. You can't really mean it. You can't possibly be that idiotic."
Sure he can, but I doubt it. I chose to think that like most fans, he tries to ignore unpleasant things. As a Gopher Hockey fan I have to try to live down 6 N.C. to 5 from a younger program. The difference is, I give credit where credit is due, He does not. The best way to debate is to accept the other guy's point then surpass it. If you ignore a true fact, or attempt to denigrate it, you make it more glaring and do the other guy's work for him.

And how are the last 14 meetings going to help your program after the @$$ kicking that will get handed to the badgers this fall at TCF?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves...last time a Wisconsin athlete said that he was not interested in Wisconsin he committed to Minnesota then switched it and the whole board blew up. let's wait and see this time.

no doubt, I wasn't trying to assume chickens before eggs hatched, but more to demonstrate how wisky losing a bunch or several solid in state guys for stupid or lazy reasons could bite them down the road
