From what I've seen of him, he has a strong arm and a quick delivery. As far as team leadership and execution, that's a little tougher to judge in the short time he's had the offense (handful of plays). He does have a good mentor with Max...we shall see. I like what I've seen so far.

Yeah, the physical tools won't be an issue. But with QBs that is only half the battle. Drake and Max seemed to get along really well so hopefully Drake was able to learn a ton form watching Max in practices and games this past season.

We will get to see during the spring and fall if he has the intangibles to be the guy.

I think we will find that Drake has some physical tools, such as a strong downfield arm, that Max didn't have. Maybe with his size, Drake could be a credible run threat once in a while, too. He's as big as Riley Leonard, who's QB runs have kept ND from elimination in two straight CFP games.

Leadership and execution? Max, in his fifth year of play, excelled in this regard. Let's hope that Drake, in his first year of play, can come close. It is unrealistic to expect him to match Max. Max excelled at keeping drives going, because he went through his progressions quickly and often threw to the check-down receiver rather than force a bad throw to a covered WR. Max also had the fabled quick release. Didn't dilly dally as the defense closed in on him. Going through your progressions and having a quick release are, to me, the essence of QB execution. Max also understood a lot about opposing defenses and their tendencies, the result of intensive film study plus extensive game experience. He was given a lot of freedom to make adjustments at the LOS. Is Drake that kind of guy? Drake has a great physical skill set, and a great mentorship with Max. Fingers crossed. Go Gophers!

Agree with much that has been written. But, experience is by far the best teacher. He will make mistakes. That's part of the process. Then, we'll see how fast he learns and his level of resiliency. Take the ball and start the journey!!! Be strong! Be open to learn! Be resilient!

The bolded is what I think is the most important thing for us as fans have to keep in mind. We're replacing a senior qb who was possibly the best decision maker/pass placement guy to ever wear the M&G with a redshirt freshman with a ton of potential and physical talent, but very little experience at the next level. There are going to be growing pains, but I think it's going to work out great in the long run. As long as he's not launching 100mph fastballs over the heads of wide open tight ends five yards past the line of scrimmage to beat Illinois, I'll be happy.

I'm gonna keep my expectations low until I see him in Spring practice. We heard all of the same things and saw the same types of videos with Athan. It wasn't until Spring that we saw some signs that maybe things weren't as rosy.

Obviously comparing him to Max, Lindsey will make mistakes that he has to learn from, but I just want to see that he can make a variety of throws in a game like scenario, something we started to see a lack of from Athan in Spring practice. If he looks solid in Spring, I'll set my bar a little higher for 2025 QB expectations.

I haven’t seen a QB mature from the beginning to the end of a season like Max did. I know he was missing some weapons in that NC game, but starting in the second half of that Michigan he showed no fear in slinging the ball into tight windows and trusted his receivers to make plays, and they usually did. If “The Drake” can muster that kind of confidence, we are in good hands.

ESPN predicts Drake Lindsey as the starter this fall, in a series about all P4 schools.

In a set of coincidences, two paragraphs about the Gopher QB room refer to Virginia Tech in three separate contexts.

--

2025 starter: Drake Lindsey, redshirt freshman

Why he'll start: Minnesota went to the portal and plucked a veteran quarterback for 2024 in Max Brosmer, but the team remained high on Lindsey, an ESPN three-star recruit with impressive size at 6-5 and 230 pounds. Lindsey will need to earn the job in the offseason but is familiar with offensive coordinator Greg Harbaugh Jr.'s offense. He had only five pass attempts in 2024, completing an 8-yard touchdown pass in a rout of Rhode Island and a 15-yard pass in the Duke's Mayo Bowl win against Virginia Tech.

Competition: Georgia Tech transfer Zach Pyron should push Lindsey, as he started five games with the Yellow Jackets and helped the team to a win over Virginia Tech in 2022. Pyron also has mobility, averaging 3.4 yards per carry with six rushing touchdowns at Georgia Tech. Dylan Wittke, a transfer from Virginia Tech, will be in his second season with the Gophers and third overall in college.

Feel like that "prediction" is just the safest / obvious thing to say even if you know squat...

I saw some "way too early ranking" that listed Drake as the #18 starting QB in the B1G.

Maybe this one?

rank-in-the-way-too-early-2025-big-ten-starting-qb-rankings

18. Drake Lindsey, Minnesota

Minnesota found a diamond in the rough in Max Brosmer last off-season which helped them win eight games and the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in 2024. Some think that Zach Pyron could potentially be the starter, but the most buzz I’ve seen from fans and Minnesota writers is for Lindsey to become the starter.

I don’t like Lindsey very much and believe that Minnesota benefitted from an experienced signal caller last season in Brosmer and that shifting to a player who hasn’t played at all isn’t going to be pretty.

There's no reason to rank him high, but also it's a badger board and they're sad bitter people ... so yeah they're going to cry.

Yep, he is a redshirt freshman and not a transfer so he is going to rank really low on these lists. But the fact that it is a Badger reporter definitely factores into the rankings as well

It’s a fair ranking I guess, but can I get more than “I don’t like him very much”.

I agree, I’m not going to claim we found a diamond before he actually proves it. He’s still a lightly recruited three star until he outplays that.

What I like:
1.) He has the arm strength to make all the throws.
2.) He got to learn for a year under Brosmer.
3.) In the limited action he saw he did not look out of place.

What scares me:
1.) everything we don't know about him.
2.) Not sure we have the WR talent to make up for any of his mistakes and/or inaccurate throws.

Excited to see Spring ball and see what he looks like in live action at that time. I really hope the WR and himself are able to really get timing and accuracy dialed in. So thankful our first 2 games are against inferior competition that should allow him to grow.
