Doogie's post-game radio rant (audio link available)

Why would I want to listen to this? There is enough bile on this board, that I don't need to get it from any other sources.

Thanks for the link. But how did I tee off on everyone wearing maroon and gold? Went at three people: Brew, Ellestad, & Cosgrove.

To tee off on a student-athlete is always in style. :(

Good note. RT @eggy_g: after hearing how #Gophers pract. went this week, the coaches have NO control ... the loss shouldn't surprise anyone.

this is needed for this program to wake up out of its 40+ year blackout. Is there another big 10 program that a post like this would get any merit. "You can't get mad at a lose to a FCS team in your home opener because they are student athletes." That is loser talk and we need to get that out of the Gopher football culture.

It is in Ellestads head, because there is no way you're a D1 kicker with no range past 40 yards.

diehard: As a graduate of the "U" -- I was forced into odd times for classes all the time due to late registration, and in fact had my graduation delayed. To be able to get your pick of classes, to be given fabulous catered meals, and to get housing, I'll disagree with you. Nothing ever personal. But feel like athlete-students can be questioned. Was it wrong to tee off on Kevin Whaley then last year?

nemosgold: she is more than just a "fan." Re-tweeted because I know she talks to people in the know.

Criticize? Cool but calling for someone's job two games into the season? Not cool.

You showed how unrational you are when you claimed that there is nothing that could happen the rest of the year to make for successful season (something to that effect). While today it may seem unlikely that winning any more games is possible, if they make a bowl with the schedule they have it will be a successful season.

And if I win the lottery tomorrow, it will be a successful year too. What's your point?

There is great deal of difference between misconduct and missing field goals. Teeing off on Ellestad because he shouldn't be placed on the field or should be coached up is inappropriate at best.

You come off as having a lot of envy for those on scholarship. Time to get over that. The coaches are wholly responsible for the on field performance of the team.

The players don't have any responsibility for how they play?

Here we go. Of course she does. Hearsay, speculation, bla bla blah...

I hate this too. If you know something, then say it. If you aren't going to give any details then shut up about it.

Yes, 2 games into the season is pretty unexpected. Was losing to South Dakota unexpected? It seems like some people still don't realize that we just lost to SOUTH DAKOTA. There is no way to defend it at all. I have been on the Brewster side until this game, I thought we all understood this couldn't happen again? What's it going to take for some of you, going 1-11 again? Or is that 0-12 the magic mark?

More background on this would be helpful. This is what's wrong with Twitter as a news source.

I read this and don't think much of it. I see that the team didn't stick around to sing Hail Minnesota, and, coupled with the tweet, wonder if Brew has lost the team.

This is where we need some real journalism, Doogie. If there's a story here find it; if there's not, dismiss it as the rumor and innuendo typical after a bad loss.

That there are 10 more games on the schedule. If the gophers can find 5 more victories they will be in a bowl game. If they find 5 more victories they will have done so against teams folks did not think they would....even before yesterdays loss.

Excuse me 5 more game.

Chris: Well aware where you stand. With your son a starter and a leader, so put in a position to succeed, and has by the way, by Brew, wouldn't expect you to feel any other way. But when you lose to two Dakota schools in four years, plus have a 55-0 loss to Iowa on your resume, so have three of the four or so worst losses in the program's history, enough is enough... confusion still occurring -- timeout burned on offense late yesterday... #1 in penalties two straight years (a personal foul penalty in all but two games last year)... offensive ineptitude not seen around here in a long time last year... I've seen enough. He said the program was "light-years" ahead of when he took it over. He also said this was his most athletic team to date. His spewing of BS has to stop. They have better talent. But what evidence is there that he can coach them up? If you listened to the whole show, my co-host, Phil Mackey, said he was rooting against the Gophers. I never would do that. Also said they will win "games" the rest of the season. Maybe even next week against a beatable USC team. But when you lose to a middle-tier 1-AA team, in my opinion, no win or wins the rest of the year can erase that. Just my feelings. If you want to call me "unrational" so be it. But we have to remember the side that you're coming from. An extremely biased one.
By the way, my venom is nothing compared to numerous people within the athletic department.

They have responsibility to put forth their best effort. Are you saying they are sandbagging? Losing on purpose?

It is up to the coaches to recruit the players and then they are responsible for the quality of the team's performance on game day.

envy? Just cited examples. We will agree to disagree. Questioning scholarship athletes is fine by me.
Plenty content, especially more importantly in my personal life.

Again, quit it with this stuff unless you've got a story.

You know what, I'm GLAD Doogie went off. I'm GLAD Reusse went off. I disagree with both of these guys often enough, but they actually showed passion for the program. Anger or frustration is much better than mockery. I WANT the public to get angry with the program. If it's started and/or led by these guys (who usually just start/promulgate apathy), then awesome. It's gotta start somewhere.

Either provide specifics or don't mention it. This is playground journalism, Darren.

Excuse me 5 more game.

Four more gets them to 5-wins. It's ridiculous to think that 70 teams (over half) can qualify for the postseason... but as far as I know, 6-wins is still needed. Although wouldn't be shocked if 5-7 gets you into a bowl game in the future.

This is a message board. Different standards, at least in my opinion... but can certainly stop sharing tiny tidbits like that. Also, I doubt any of these folks want to go on the record right now. November 28 might be a different story.

But that's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!!

If you listened to the whole show, my co-host, Phil Mackey, said he was rooting against the Gophers.

This is just more evidence why the local sports media sucks worse than the Gophers football team. Although they are my favorite radio station I will never tune into KSTP again when that SOB is on the air.
