I would suggest he go to a school with a large GLBT population, so he feels at home.

AJ Barker @A_Barker_82
Here are my priorities in the decision. 1) Told I wasn't going to play here anymore, and 2) wouldn't receive a scholarship next year
There is nothing in Barker's letter and no evidence I have seen in GopherHole that Barker told Kill he was going to quit the team if he didn't get a scholarship.
I don't think Kill ever said that Barker gave him an ultimatum.
If you know something the rest of us don't then let's have it.
Besides going public with the letter, that is what bothered me the most. That's stuff that should be dealt with after the season.
So leave without saying a word to the fans?
bad form
Get real.
Do you think this letter was the first time that AJ Barker acted like a child?
I think it should be obvious to anyone that Kill was saying that Barker isn't as special as he thinks he is (because AJ Barker thinks he is pretty damn special) and that he isn't above following the rules and procedures. AJ even admitted as much. Could you imagine if a player told Nick Saban that he only missed icing his ankle because he thought it would be better for it to not get tight on him? Could you imagine what Jim Harbaugh would have said to a kid who missed rehab appointments to go get acupuncture instead? How about what Pat Fitzgerald would have said to a kid who was questioning an athletic trainer (after admitting to NOT icing!!)?
I don't think Kill sat AJ Barker down and just matter of factly told him, you aren't good enough to play here and you'll never get a scholarship. I think Kill probably told him that he wasn't so special that he didn't have to follow the rules.
If AJ Barker would have come out and simply said "I quit the team because it became apparent I'd never get a scholarship and the staff wanted me to play injured"....this would be a different debate. From his Wrenlike diatribe, the ONLY thing I know about the situation is that AJ Barker is a diva and that AJ Barker did not rehab is ankle correctly.
Just thought he'd fit in with other people that don't like to be called "faggots". It wouldn't bother me to be called "faggot" because I know that I am not one (being that I have sex with women, have flown USAF jets and climb large mountains).
He sure doesn't seem too smart. A lot of sterotypes for a white walk on anyhow. I'm sure Ohio State could use a number one receiver. lol Get real he is a dime a dozen.Let's face it. Barker is smart, plays hard, runs good routes, has a knack for getting open, has great hands, and is extremely competitive. What college wouldn't want a player like that on their team? Wait ...
He should have had a scholarship; he shouldn't have written the public letter. Live and learn...
Put yourself in Kill's shoes with the scholarships. You have to make these kids compete until the day you award the scholarship. Had he made it know Barker was getting one, maybe others become less motivated or quit. There are only so many available each year, competition until granted is good. AJ WANTED TO BE ALLEVIATED OF THE COMPETITION.

"A.J. Barker update: diva and all, a bunch of 1-A schools have inquired. I hear Houston is one. He should land somewhere decent. #gophers"
Go Gophers!!
BS. Nobody wants a guy who played nearly one season, one year left, and a pain in the ass to boot. If he plays, it will be at Mankato.

His two catches previous to this year made him deserving of a scholly? How so? Kill awarded it to his SENIOR kicker. I see no issue with this. Honestly, Barker would have likely seen his efforts rewarded next year. I guess we will never know.
There is a ton of personal bitterness on this board toward the kid that I simply don't get. Disagree with his actions or whatever, but some of this *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# is just visceral and over the top (not to mention patently false-to say the kid can't play is simply wrong). Don't take it all so personally; you aren't actually friends or family with Coach Kill, and he doesn't need you taking potshots at former players in his defense.
Move on.

Why does everyone let doofus Doogie get them fired up all over again. Doogie heard, but from whom ? Doogie is a nobody trying to be somebody. Wants to get some notice. What creditable coach would give a scholarship to a non scholarship walk-on who quit on another program and coach; rather than to a current player on his squad that has been a loyal, hard working walk-on that has stuck it out and not quit. Doing so could undermine his teams loyalty to him and his team, make him suceptable to numerous 4000 word emails. Let's all remember, this ex-player who quit on Kill, also quit on his teammates and us as fans. And don't give that he owes the fans nothing.
Get real.
