Doogie says AJ Barker hearing from "a bunch of 1A schools" including Houston

AJ Barker ‏@A_Barker_82
Here are my priorities in the decision. 1) Told I wasn't going to play here anymore, and 2) wouldn't receive a scholarship next year

Kid is a punk. Hope nothing but bad luck in his football career going forward and a successful life of whining his way to the top

There is nothing in Barker's letter and no evidence I have seen in GopherHole that Barker told Kill he was going to quit the team if he didn't get a scholarship.

I don't think Kill ever said that Barker gave him an ultimatum.

If you know something the rest of us don't then let's have it.

Keep it up! Just the facts and nothing but the facts!

I hope to one day see him at the McDonald's drive through in 3 years. I will be certain to snap a pic. I trust the rest of you will do the same if the situation arises.

Just thought he'd fit in with other people that don't like to be called "faggots". It wouldn't bother me to be called "faggot" because I know that I am not one (being that I have sex with women, have flown USAF jets and climb large mountains).

Is this more from the De La Salle hype machine?

Get real.

Do you think this letter was the first time that AJ Barker acted like a child?

I think it should be obvious to anyone that Kill was saying that Barker isn't as special as he thinks he is (because AJ Barker thinks he is pretty damn special) and that he isn't above following the rules and procedures. AJ even admitted as much. Could you imagine if a player told Nick Saban that he only missed icing his ankle because he thought it would be better for it to not get tight on him? Could you imagine what Jim Harbaugh would have said to a kid who missed rehab appointments to go get acupuncture instead? How about what Pat Fitzgerald would have said to a kid who was questioning an athletic trainer (after admitting to NOT icing!!)?

I don't think Kill sat AJ Barker down and just matter of factly told him, you aren't good enough to play here and you'll never get a scholarship. I think Kill probably told him that he wasn't so special that he didn't have to follow the rules.

If AJ Barker would have come out and simply said "I quit the team because it became apparent I'd never get a scholarship and the staff wanted me to play injured"....this would be a different debate. From his Wrenlike diatribe, the ONLY thing I know about the situation is that AJ Barker is a diva and that AJ Barker did not rehab is ankle correctly.

Let me restart your opinion by replacing Barker with Kill. Might read something like this: "Do you think (Kill receiving) this letter was the first time because a player acted in self defense of his character and interests?"

Why exactly are you so adamant that AJ Barker is such diva? Are you paid to discredit the kid? Do you have a financial interest in his destruction? What cause is worthy of tearing this kid down in public? What good does it bring you?

Is it possible that you are trying to protect somebody else's interest above Barkers?

I don't single you out. The same applies to all that use names like diva and other code words of hate.

He should have had a scholarship; he shouldn't have written the public letter. Live and learn...

It's official, A.J. Barker is the second biggest tool who's name appears in this thread.

Diva in HS and a Diva in college. Clearly the "grow the f- up" tactic didn't work for the U staff. Hopefully his next coach handles him very delicately so they can both be happy.

Let's face it. Barker is smart, plays hard, runs good routes, has a knack for getting open, has great hands, and is extremely competitive. What college wouldn't want a player like that on their team? Wait ...
He sure doesn't seem too smart. A lot of sterotypes for a white walk on anyhow. I'm sure Ohio State could use a number one receiver. lol Get real he is a dime a dozen.

His two catches previous to this year made him deserving of a scholly? How so? Kill awarded it to his SENIOR kicker. I see no issue with this. Honestly, Barker would have likely seen his efforts rewarded next year. I guess we will never know.

Put yourself in Kill's shoes with the scholarships. You have to make these kids compete until the day you award the scholarship. Had he made it know Barker was getting one, maybe others become less motivated or quit. There are only so many available each year, competition until granted is good. AJ wanted to be alleviated of the competition.

B.S. AJ's mom's bff said he was the best. What more do you need?!?

Go Gophers!!

BS. Nobody wants a guy who played nearly one season, one year left, and a pain in the ass to boot. If he plays, it will be at Mankato.

I sincerely doubt that that's the case. The kid demonstrated that he has talent, someone will take a flier on him.

He'll get a Div 1 opportunity probably at a BCS school. He can play at this level and if he brings the diva stuff out, they'll only gamble on 1 year of a scholarship.

There is also the issue of Barker having an obviously bad attitude. Barker refused to take care of his ankle, he obvously is a bit of a diva, I think it's pretty obvious that Barker's attitude played a part in not promising AJ a scholarship. Personally, if a player had the kind of attitude that Barker displayed in that letter, I hope Kill never offers him a scholarship.

I say good luck to Kacynski no matter where he ends up playing football. Sorry it didn't work out for you here, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

There is a ton of personal bitterness on this board toward the kid that I simply don't get. Disagree with his actions or whatever, but some of this *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# is just visceral and over the top (not to mention patently false-to say the kid can't play is simply wrong). Don't take it all so personally; you aren't actually friends or family with Coach Kill, and he doesn't need you taking potshots at former players in his defense.

Move on.

I don't wish the kid any ill will, I think he can play at just about any level of college football, but his letter is definitely part of the conversation. I don't consider it to be bitter or anything to describe AJ Barker as a diva. Tha obviously will play a part in where he ends up,it obviously played a part in his leaving, etc.

I think to discuss AJ Barker without bringing up his actions in the letter would be like discussing Jewhan Edwards without bringing up his issues.

A.J. situation reminds me of the squirrel in "Griswold Christmas". HE GONE!!! And his mom's friend is the neighbor bitch at the door who got run over by the dog, SNOTS..

Player has an attitude. Doesn't follow team rules. Coach blows up. Reams him out. Kid gets mad and quits. This scenario has been played out over and over. What is different is the attempt to try to inflict as much damage as possible because you didn't get your way. My thinking he's a punk is that very deliberate scorched earth action.

Why does everyone let doofus Doogie get them fired up all over again. Doogie heard, but from whom ? Doogie is a nobody trying to be somebody. Wants to get some notice. What creditable coach would give a scholarship to a non scholarship walk-on who quit on another program and coach; rather than to a current player on his squad that has been a loyal, hard working walk-on that has stuck it out and not quit. Doing so could undermine his teams loyalty to him and his team, make him suceptable to numerous 4000 word emails. Let's all remember, this ex-player who quit on Kill, also quit on his teammates and us as fans. And don't give that he owes the fans nothing.

Doogie never said that any schools offered him a scholarship.

Not saying you are right or wrong, but if this was the case, don't you think Kill would have figured that out his first set of spring practices and told Barker that he was wasting his time?

That's the baffling thing to me. Here is this supposedly entitled kid who could have played FCS who decided to walk on at his home town school because it was his goal to one day earn a scholarship and prove he belonged (perhaps some conjecture on my part) at an FBS school.

Funny how things don't work out.
