Doogie: Gophers reach out to Florida Gulf Coast coach Andy Enfield

This whole hiring thing is starting to look like a disaster. Should have kept Tubby at least for another year Teague.

Counterpoint: should have canned him last year and hired Tim Miles. Imagine.

Let's get one thing straight - that's not street ball. They're running some pretty nice offensive sets if you look closely. They're just not making it any more complicated than it needs to be, which maybe makes it look simpler than it really is. OK, now I'm starting to sound like Yogi Berra.

I agree with you here Bad. He did a great job there. However, his credentials for the Gopher job boil down to 2 basketball games. If his team hadn't won those two NCAA games - no one anywhere would be mentioning Enfield for a job at this level.

My sources say there was plenty of buzz about him and his team before they blew up in the tournament. It's one of those situations where he would have been firmly on Teague's and Ellis' radar, but they wouldn't have been able to offer the job to him because he'd be too much of an unknown to placate the fan base. His two Tournament wins takes care of that.

All I've learned this week is that Gopher fans are just angry, negative people.

Norwood has been our AD for about a year and people already want him fired. Give me a break.

Everyone begged for Tubby to be gone and scoffed at those who said he's the best we could get. Now they are outraged that we are "going to hire someone worse than Tubby"

Get a grip people and relax. It's been about 5 days and NO ONE has ANY idea what Teague is up to. You are basing your outrage on media speculation and rumors.

We are talking about firing Teague for a hire that we have no idea how it'll work. I can't wait to see how our new coach is treated even before coaching a game.

People will want him fired if he doesn't say "don't cha know" in the flipping press conference.

It's all we have.

Agree with with most of this. I am trying to breathe and stay calm.. trusting the process and Teague. At the end of the day, I am still hopeful that Teague has something up his sleeve. That said, part of me can't help but wonder if we would have been better off keeping Tubby..at least for a year. I'm sure lots of folks will chime in about my desire to be medicore and all that original stuff.. but its the truth. I am still fine with letting go of Tubby to find a coach that can surpass what he did.. however, watching UCLA hire Alford has me very nervous. I'd rather have Tubby than Alford..

Now that its out of my system.. I will go back to trusting Teague. I am hoping that by Tuesday, we have landed Buzz/Marshall or Dana Altman. If we hire Mack or Grant I'll feel like its Kill all over again. If we hire Enfield.. I will at least hide my disgust by looking at his wife behind the bench.. could be worse.

Even if the hire is someone you've never heard of or don't like. Are we going to give him a season to coach? Or will we be begging for his head after a week?

Whoever is the coach, I will still renew my tickets and cheer.. I will wait to call for his head until after we lose 49-45 to Wisky (despite fact that MSU likely only scored mid 40's on them a week earlier)

Agreed completely. Except not sure when I'd call for his head lol rather not think about that right now.

He's safe until the first loss.

That Maui tournament is going to be brutal. My guess? Even the impartial, not affiliated, fans boo.

In all seriousness. That Maui tournament is well timed. Having the new coach take the team to Hawaii for a week cannot do anything but help. Those type of trips force the team to be together a lot. Should help the new staff. Of course, this assumed we have a new staff by then..

Haha isn't that the truth.

The Gophers in 1971 hired a basketball coach who then turned the job down the next day. Then we turned to our 2nd choice, Bill Musselman. Say what you want about NCAA sanctions, etc., he won a B ig 10 championship his lst yr and attendance rose from 4,000 a game to 18,000. Plus he recruited the best players we've had in my opinion. So getting the 2nd or 3rd choice means nothing. Getting the right man is the key.

Quite true but using that analogy we may already be 2 or 3 coaches past our 2nd choice.

I think that eventually Doogie will be right. It might be on the 35th coach he plugs in, but he will be right.

Doogie has been played so many times he's like a worn out 45 of Rocketman on the jukebox at The Good Old Time Tavern. Zero cred left.

I hear that.

Doogie doesn't help up much...throws stuff out there that won't stick, then goes on the radio and tells everyone what a terrible town this is to coach in and a step down from coaching at Minot St.

I've defended Doogie plenty, but his coverage and opinions of this coaching search have been a joke.

Put it this way: Flip didn't even have the job and people were starting the fireflip.com web site.

Probably from his other aborted HC opportunities. We would not have been the first to fire him.

I'm glad I blocked this cunard character, guy has gone insane flaming the board.

Got to agree with tiki. Better Enfield than Grant. Maybe a little crazy to even mention, but Marshall is still in the tourny. When this is over we will know about Teague, not until. But I agree he is beginning to smell a like a dead fish right now. Hope he pulls his one out.
