I'll be a schmuck and vote yes! But, there's no doubt in my mind they'll need to win 2 games. Bring it on!

Considering our RPI ranking, I think that we have a 50/50 shot if we beat PSU.

If we beat PSU, it at least makes SS worth watching.

It's like when Dr. McCoy asked Spock whether Kirk would be able to build the makeshift cannon in time to kill the Gorn. Spock looked at him like, just watch the screen like I'm doing, and we'll both find out together.

Former Gopher Ariel McDonald: 2 Wins Gets U in Tourney

“If they can get two wins they should be safe, but right now they live to see another day,” McDonald told Sports Headliners after the Gophers defeated Penn State yesterday at Williams Arena. McDonald, a former Gophers point guard, was the TV analyst for yesterday’s Big Ten Network game when Minnesota improved its conference record to 8-10 and overall to 19-12.

He believes there is some possibility the Gophers could earn an invite to the NCAA Tournament when selections are announced next Sunday if they win just their Big Ten opener. That optimism is based on Minnesota’s strength of schedule including wins over top 20 teams Iowa, Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Go Gophers!!

This doesn't look like an NCAA team to me, so I voted no. Just too many times where they didn't get the job done. Things might change in the Big Ten Tournament, but I doubt it.

Having said that, I went into the season thinking an NIT bid would have been a sign of a successful transition year.

Take away all doubt and win the tournament. Some team is going to, why not the Gophers?

$hit, now we have no chance to get a bid. Damn.

Yep, because I'm the final word. Glad you realized it.

Go back to getting drunk and then get back to me.

How dare you state your opinion. Who do you think you are?

It's all about how this team looks in comparison to the other bubble teams. Each of these bubble teams have had their ups and downs. Whether we get in will depend on the criteria used. SOS plays in our favor as does top end wins. Road/neutral record could keep us out.

Win two and we are likely in. Beat PSU and we'll need some help.

I think the biggest thing that will be a strike will be the 8-10 conference record. In the past, selection committees haven't looked very favorably on teams with losing conference records in at large situations. I agree that if they win two, they probably get in. If not, we're on the outside looking in imo. A lot depends on how other conference tournaments go as well, mostly from the power conferences. Can't afford to have too many upsets (unless it's the Gophers doing the upsetting).

Pretty sure we had the same conference record last year and got in as an 11 seed.

Hard to argue. That said, this is the first day of the rest of their lives.

True, but during one of the games last week, an announcer informed the audience that only one team with consecutive conference losing records (a Virginia team in the nineties) received consecutive tournament bids. Last year's team also finished the nonconference season 12-1 with some good quality wins and I believe they had a measurably higher RPI than this team at the end of the season. I think there might be a bit too much competition from teams in other power conferences this year. I'm not even 100% positive that 2 wins in the Big Ten tournament will do it for them.

Another piece of meaningless drivel.

We'll beat PSU but I don't think this team has it in them to win a clutch game against Becky, and to get in they HAVE to beat Becky. I'll be surprised and extremely happy if they do, but they haven't shown they can win tough, close games either on the road or neutral sites all season.

My gut feeling is no. If I had more confidence the bubble wouldn't shrink much, or that the Gophers will win 2 games, I'd say yes.

I said on these forums before the illini game that the gophers needed 3 more wins the rest of the season to make the tourney. That would mean if I were to hold true to my prediction, they would only need this next one against penn st. But a lot of weird things have happened since then and I definitely think they need two, to be sure, otherwise they will land squarely on the cut line that has gotten less soft in the last few weeks.

I can't be the only one in thinking both of the following a.) While yes the B1G is strong the fact that so many teams have beaten each other up has hurt, a little, national perception of the league. There aren't the stud teams like last year and with that there just doesn't seem to be quite the buzz about the conference heading into selection sunday. b.) The buzz the B1G has is being largely directed at the other "bubble" team, Nebraska, for good reason. Last year, the Gophers were the only true "bubble" team in the B1G last year and they almost had to be in because they were the bubble team in the strongest conference. Now I feel as though the Gophers don't have the same PR momentum as last year because of Nebraska, deservingly, stealing that thunder. (I also think Nebraska is in regardless of BTT)

So, I think the Gophers need two. To go 2-1 against Sconnie, (the second ranked team in the second ranked conference) and finish 10-11 against b1g competition, above average non-conference, would overshadow the couple bad losses.

Outside of the b1g, I think the bubble has become much harder over the last couple weeks were a month out it looked like it was going to be one of the softer bubbles in recent memory.

I'm wondering if a close game against the Badgers would help. These last few teams in are so close that the committee might take that into consideration.

If we don't win two, I think it really comes down to how much slack we're given for Dre's injury. If it's little-to-none, then we're out. To that end, a close game vs. Wiscy to show we're a better team now could be relavent. There's no doubt in my mind that we would have beaten NW and Purdue if he was healthy. It feels like OK State is being given a lot of slack for the games Marcus Smart missed, even though that wasn't an injury. If they treat us the same, maybe we have a better shot than we think. FWIW, I'm not really up on whether any other buble teams have similar claims.

Saw that too and know they have always factored in injuries before and don't know why they wouldn't in our situation. Especially considering that was one of our bad losses and both games were very close if the committee actually does factor in the injury I would feel a lot more comfortable about where we stand right now.

Jerry is selling the Gophers way short. He also said our ceiling is a 10 seed if we win the Big Ten Tournament. Ummm... No. If we beat Wisconsin, MSU, and Michigan in the BTT. We are getting better than a 10 seed.
