DO YOU PART and email Joel Maturi ---> [email protected]

seems like another good time to remind Maturi how big of a mistake his hire was. nothing like totally ruining a brand new stadium by having a 1-11 season in its second year.

might as well tell Bruinicks to make sure Maturi doesn't get the chance to F this up again while you're at it

When does talk of a boycott start?

Actions speak louder than words. Would an empty, brand new, very expensive stadium get the point across? Yes, you may have purchased tickets, but do you really want to see what you already know is coming? The only down side would be the players and the perceived lack of support, but I hope they would understand that they are not the issue, and for those players who aren't graduating this year, I hope they would understand that we don't want them to have to go through this non-sense ever again.

Never. I'm sorry, but unless you give a ton of money your absence won't be felt in the way you'd like. Go to the game and support the team. There are plenty of other ways to send the message (e-mail, phone calls, etc). End of story.

More lumps are coming - and some could be ugly (at Madison?). Gophers might win a couple of conference games, but 3-9 or worse will not merit keeping Brew any longer. Problem is...who takes his place?

My email to maturi...and his response

Mr. Maturi,

Yesterday's football loss was a very difficult one to swallow. I believe we have the talent to compete with most Big Ten teams and to dominate lesser division teams...yet we do not and have not been doing that. The loss to SoDak was embarrassing and the loss last night to NIU was downright pathetic.

I have been a big supporter of Coach Brewster for the last 3 plus years and will continue to support the U of M sports programs...but it is clearly time to make a change.

I agreed with your termination of Coach Mason...I just thought it should have came a year earlier. Wating until after the bowl game really hurt our chances to secure an experienced quality head coach and secure any talented recruits. Waiting cost us too much.

We are at that crossroads again in our program...do we wait and hope or do we move quickly and aggressively? We tried the wait and see game last time and it got us here...maybe we should try something new this time.

The football program is profitable...and if it was a winning program...it would be more profitable. We have to invest in the program by hiring a real leader...someone that has a track record of winning and recruiting and developing talent and the top levels. Someone who can step in immediately at years end and recruit new talent and retain our best players. We need to be willing to spend the money on a top notch head coach and top notch coordinators...expand the budget...hire a winner and see the rewards that our neighbors to the east and south have seen...we play in the best conference in the US...our schedule will include some of the best and most storied football programs in college football...if we compete and win...we will get the revenue and financial support we need.

Tell the football world we are looking for a new HC and we are willing to spend the necessary funds to secure a top talent...the U is one great opportunity...please don't wait...let this season be the last lost season.

Response:

Thanks for your thought and support.

Financially speaking, something has to be done. We play Iowa this year at home--how many Hawks will be here on 11/27?. Next year, we have NDSU, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebraska ALL AT HOME. We can't afford to have thousands more visiting fans than we will already have. We need to get someone in here who will get the locals interested again.

I'm not sure how 50,805 Gopher fans versus 30,000 Gopher fans and 20,805 Hawkeye (Bison, Husker, etc) fans makes any financial difference.

FYI
Here is the autoreply that is now on Maturi's email..

I am out of the office attending Athletic Director Meetings in Dallas and will return to the office on Wednesday. I will do my best to respond at that time.

Spot-on

He's going to have a lot of emails to respond to on Wednesday

Yeah, let's gum up the University's e-mail system with crap from a bunch of no-nothings like us.

Seriously, if there are big boosters on here who doll out coin, you folks are excused from my comment above. Your voice needs to be heard.

If you are a student or recent grad, get back to work and do something productive.

Serious question: People use "..."'s in serious communication with high ranking individuals?

I disagree STRONGLY with this. Grassroots organizing of this nature does make an impact. Repeated contacts of this nature is the best way for an average fan to make their voice heard. Usually I'd say phone calls are better, but you need to be a big money guy to get through to Maturi over the phone.

I urge everyone to communicate their thoughts concisely and politely to as many movers and shakers at the U as possible.

They also say "should have came" and spell "waiting" as "wating". Sometimes the grammar on this board drives me crazy and I wonder what it must be like on the Alabama board.

One of Joel's best qualities is he actually DOES read and reply to emails. Shoving our heads in the sand and doing nothing seems far more insane to me than sending a well thought out email his way.
