Per Myron: GophersBBGuy Tubby Smith: Devoe Joseph is suspended indefinitely due to "off the court" issues.

Tubby Smith: Devoe will not be traveling for "forseeable future."

It never ends with this program

GophersBBGuy Tubby Smith: Devoe Joseph working through off court issues, it's a long-term issue, he won't be in Puerto Rico

Damnit gophs. 1 step foward 2 steps back. Time for Rodney to step up and prove what he can do

There's another thread with some history, but here's some more. The Gophers historically have shot themselves in the foot with academic ineligibility:

Ray Cronk, Terry Kunze, Don Yates, Mark Hall, Kevin Clark, Miles Tarver....

Not to even mention Ron Behagen and Corky Taylor, Mitch Lee, Kevin Smith, George Williams, Bobby Jackson, Royce White....

And now Devoe Joseph along with Al Nolen.

Why do you think it's academic ineligibility? Last year, when Nolen was out, Tubby flat out said it was academics. This time, he said off the court issue.

So I take it what was rumored a few days ago, that he failed a drug test, is likely the cause?

To clarify, the first group is academic ineligibility. The second group was other stuff. Jackson of course was never ineligible but was eligible fraudulently. Not sure which list Devoe belongs on yet, but the point is he ain't playin'. And like the man said, it never seems to end with this program...going back at least to Cronk in 1960.

Why does this program have to have a perpetual black cloud over it? They simply cannot get their best 5 players on the court at the same time. This is beyond frustrating. Any chance to do damage in PR is now gone and we have to worry about these 1st 3 games and the high likelihood that we will slip up.

Gotta be the weed. I'm sure he's failed more than a handful of tests in order to garner such a harsh suspension. Trying to remember how many games Devron had to miss last year for this issue... Anyone recall?

Boy these kids can be so stupid. You have the world at your fingertips and then you go and do something that garners an indefinite suspension.

Well time for someone else to step up.

That's my only knock on Tubby...boys will be boys...john calipari smokes weed with his players

Unbelievable after watching all the guys get suspended last year how do you not learn not to do stupid stuff??

Agree with Mulligan. I don't see suspensions such as this one as some kind of fatal flaw. Rather, I chalk this situation up to Tubby not putting up with the same crap that goes on at a lot of other places and also to Devoe being just plain stupid.

I'm still more than happy to have to Devoe, but having to put up with so many disappointing suspensions makes me even happier to have guys like Hollins and Coleman signed.

That's a lot of scoring to replace. Who gets more PT because of this? Hollins? Armelin?! Sigh...

This individual event is not on the administration, but it is an institutional problem. I do not know of any other programs that struggle to keep guys on the court/field as much as the U of M.

From Gary Russell somehow slipping through the cracks, to Devron Bostick and Devoe Joseph, to Sam Maresh flunking out..........there should be safety nets in place that ensure the school is not losing quality athletes for off the field/court problems. It is a cultural problem at the U of M and it has been there since Bill Musselman was the coach.

on the bright side, hopefully devoe will be back before b10 play. this will also battle test the team w/o a proven scorer. Freshman will be quickly developed as well with armelin, ahanmisi, and hollins getting some serious minutes this year for experience.

Well, we almost got to the first regular-season game without any off-the-court drama.

OK all, not that this is the greatest thing ever ... but would you rather have it now or in the Big Ten season? Hopefully this ends the drama for the year. If not, then we can discuss again. But, I'm comfortable with the situation in Tubster's hands.
