Danny Hope officially fired at Purdue

Even though he won three in a row to make a bowl game, it wasn't like he turned things around and became competitive. The three teams he beat had a collective B1G record fo 4-20. The team didn't play well at the end, that was just when the two high schools and the pop warner team appeared on his schedule.

This isn't surprising, but you gotta respect the guy for getting his team ready to play and go on a 3 game win-streak to get bowl eligible.

Reminiscent of the decision to fire Mason at some level. Tough business. I thought Hope did a pretty decent job.

The crazy thing is that there are only 2 undefeated teams left in college football this season and Purdue should've beat them both on their home fields. Terrible coaching decisions in the final minutes cost them both games.

Just shows how a few plays can turn the whole season in another direction. Stanford could be playing for a title, A&M is still in the Big 12, OSU if eligible, Oregon, Kansas St. etc. All it takes is one off week and you are out. When you lose is also important. In a playoff most of these teams would get a second chance and probably be stronger for having lost a game. ND at 12-0 will have more pressure than a 12-1 Bama or Georgia.

That'll be enough to end a career. When winnable situations are thrown away, it stings the fan base probably worse than getting blown out.

Hope's downfall was his stubborness (sp?) with the QB position. Robert Marve is clearly the best QB on the roster and he refused to play him much early in the season. Had Marve been the guy throughout, they might have won a few more games (likely beating Notre Dame) and his job is safe. Marve had the hot hand vs. ND and for some reason Ter Bush got the ball to start the 2nd half and it was over.

It doesn't help that West Lafayette is a horrible college town and Ross-Ade Stadium is a dump.

Go Gophers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
