Daniel Ogele committed

howabout that Ogele guy, heh!?

if there was any thought that colin smith would pick MN, would Ogele have been brought onboard, or could it have been more about Ihnen and Fox and thier injuries?

It was suppose to say mind, but yes I'll explain what I see so far. This can change quickly once games play, but I see Ben and this staff finding guys who are able and willing to defend. Any article I read about potential recruits mentions their defense. I see them also finding and working on pieces that fit together. I don't think we will see classes that have Konate and Gaston, or Dupree, Jarvis Johnson, and Kevin Dorsey. I am seeing us focusing on Payne as a 5 who will be the bruiser, then looking for 4's who can pick and pop and space the floor (Wolf, Jasen Green). I see them chasing point guards who are nasty and tough (Tre, The Braumbaugh kid, and Pierre kid). All the other guards/wings I see us pursuing the hardest can shoot. I see our offense having better spacing and ball movement because the pieces will meld together better.

Lastly, I know that this staff is going to be about relationships and will build them genuinely and early. It's hurting us now, but I don't think we will ever see them without recruits in November like we did in the past regime. This is something that needs to be done to win here. I look at Purdue and Wisconsin as in conference and Virginia as non conference models of how we can and should build. Those programs all defend and identify talent early. They don't get many if any McDonalds AA kids, but they get 3-4 year developmental kids. I don't see us being able to follow a model of quick success like an Alabama or Arkansas for a variety of reasons. It will need to be built from the foundation and anyone who has built a house knows the dirt and block work is boring and slow, but the most important.
Love this post. Hope like he’ll this works out as your imagine it.

Wish he had proven it first, at a Utah State. But we can only cry about spoiled milk for so long.

Collin Smith is a 2022 recruit so adding Ogele has nothing to do with Colin Smith

I have noticed that too about defense, I have also noticed the guards especially, are noted good rebounders and they all seem to be good 3 point shooters except for Daniel. None are noted to be particularly great scorers but some have good scoring stats. So it seams they want defense, effort and instincts as their highest criteria.

Once we get into season and lose every game no one will be wanting to sign with us.

Two questionable assumptions there. I can't imagine that we'll lose every game; I don't even think that will happen in the Big Ten. Now, as to "no one will be wanting to sign with us," let's look at some past history:

1) Pitino's 2015-16 team won 2 Big Ten games and only 8 games overall. Despite that, the recruits (including Coffey) came and he was able to sign a very valuable grad transfer (Akeem Springs) in the spring following that season. Remarkably, Pitino followed that historically awful season with his best season.

2) Iowa State just completed one of the worst seasons imaginable for a power conference team (or any team for that matter): 2 wins overall. Yet they landed some decent transfers, have a four star freshman recruit coming in, and have at least two commitments for the 2022 class.

Valid comparison - and I also think seeing how Johnson coaches and their playing style will play a role in getting recruits to come in. It seems like the recruits he has are eager and coachable, and will listen to him, so recruits, their parents/coaches/mentors (and us fans) can get a feel for what his vision is and may be more likely to take that leap of faith. Regardless, I'll be cheering them on! Go Gophers!

is ogele on campus yet? daniels was added to the roster today and i'm a bit surprised that they didn't just add ogele at the same time

It appears he has on campus if you go by social media.

Well, I hope so. I hope he can inspire recruits to come by the way his teams play and perhaps by interpersonal skills. I have to admit. So far he strikes me as kind of bland. Although I didn't particularly like or respect Pitino, I felt that he was a pretty good talker. I don't have a lot of experience listening to Johnson but, when I do, I feel like he rarely says anything particularly memorable or even entertaining.

He has a speech coach working with him.
