Curious as to how many Brewster backers are still out there...

I've changed my mind. Brew said this morning the team would be much better next year. Yeah, Weber will be gone.

Keep brewster unless the whole athletic department and a REAL comit to winning is demonstrated by the administration. A new coach is only a band aid to the real systemic issues at the U of M athletic dept.maybe a new coach can get us to 6-5 or 7-4 is that mediocrity what we want?

Already planning his exit strategy. When someone else takes over, has success, he can say, "See, I told you the Gophers would be better with just one more year."

I guarantee being boo'd off the field at half time made players feel like *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# no matter who it was directed at.

I'm sure the way they played in the first half made the fans feel like *&^#*&^# too...

Difference is who paid to see who?

There are, according to my recent survey, 11 remaining. The other 547,363 have had enough.

Most of Hawkeye and Badger nation still back Brewster and are willing to give him one more year. :D

according to the rubes on this site you guys should want Brew *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# canned because you guys can't be good unless your rivals are good.:cool02:

And to the fans that boo'd the team going into halftime yesterday, F U. You might be upset with the coach, but STUDENT athletes do not deserve to be boo'd, especially by so-called home fans.

I dont think they were booing the team so much as the coach, i support the players completely. they will always have my support. except for weber. the guy is a complete ass off the field and can never back up the bravado on the field. and hasnt shown that hes worked to improve in any way

I completely understand the point. I'm frustrated as hell right now too with brew. As a player, how do you tell who is getting boo'd though? I would imagine it sucks no matter what. I don't know for sure, but it has to have an effect on confidence. Not saying we'd have more wins with more positivity, but it couldn't hurt. Also, how does it look to recruits and their families? Do they know it's directed as the coach and not the players?? I just think it's uncalled for when dealing with 18-23 year old students. IMO I guess.

I do not understand why people around here get so up in arms about booing. These are big kids playing a big kids game--if they're getting emotionally rattled by a little booing maybe they should run track or something.

For the record, right now I'd be perfectly fine with Brew getting canned. I think there is way more talent on this team but it's being poorly managed right now. I can understand (but not like) booing after ridiculous calls. There were a few, like not kicking the field goal in the 4th when down by 11, going for it on 4th down in your own end to open the 2nd half, etc. I know the Ellestad is shaky (at best) but still. But booing the ENTIRE team when coming off the field?? Come on people.

The "Student Athlete" argument simply does not hold water. Not on this level. D1 football is a big time sport that draws far more attendance and TV viewers than the NFL. It's a huge money-making operation, and if you're going to play at that level, in front of fans who have paid a lot of money for tickets, expect to hear disgust if your performance stinks as bad as the Gophers have this season.

If you want to act like this is some romanticized game where "student athletes" go out on Saturday and play their hearts out for their alma mater, I suggest you consider becoming a fan of the UMAC or MIAC. I want to see a winning team here - not the stiffs we're stuck with. If that makes someone feel bad, I couldn't possibly care less. This kind of garbage wouldn't fly at OSU, PSU, Texas, etc.

I think recruits are probably just a little more concerned with how the scoreboard keeps looking for the Gophers during games against crappy opponents. Quit your crying about the booing and quit pretending like that has any impact on recruiting.

I think Brewster is a good guy. I'd have a beer with him. However, he's clearly not HC material. Heck, keep him on as an assistant and I think he'd be good in that role. It's clear that he can't run a program but then he never had HC experience beyond high school, nor coordinator duties.

I blame his failure more on the guy that hired him, he should have know that someone with no major coaching experience would be qualified for a job like this.

It probably doesn't have any impact on recruiting. All booing does is display the lack of class of those doing it.

As will the other die-hards such as Ahlibobwa, Monk10, and Iceland12

I'd rather be in this group, especially with Schnoodler, than be in your group-that is for sure. Brew needs to go, but until that happens I'm behind him and the team. I don't boo the coaches or the team. I stay until the end. I'll drink the next Kool-Aid flavor that comes out..and the next...and the next.

It's fine to bitch and moan about this and that after the game or when drunk, but common sense eventually should sink-in. Not just common sense, but common decency. Brewster isn't failing to spite any of you. The players aren't missing tackles to spite any of you. Weber wasn't born to spite any of you. This sucks big time, but you people acting like it is a personal thing is laughable. This program needs Kool-Aid drinkers just as much as you people think it needs tough-love. Boycotts, Fire Brewster chants, Stupid signs designed to make "you" feel better = bad fans. Get a grip. Argue your points. Make sense.

+1

I am and I'm surprised to find myself saying it. See my recent post.

Brewster came here and found the cupboard was bare. This year we are starting 9 new players on defense and you can't do that. Especially if so many are red-shirt and actual freshmen. What happens is you get missed tackles and assignments on pass plays with the results we've seen.

He deserves another season with the full support of the U's Administration.

I have nothing bad to say to those who are screaming for his firing, I understand the feeling. I just see more happening than most, I guess. Next year will be the real test with the talent and with stability in coaching. GO GOPHERS!

Anything further, Mr. Obvious?

Stay classy!

Showing the same class that people at the game showed. I have no respect for people that boo our home team, especially 18-23 year old young men. IMO, you are still a dick.

Thank you.

 Couldn't have said it better.

Glad there is some rationality still. I was beginning to think I was the only one.

I never said they were. I simply said that at this level of the sport, where people are paying their hard-earned discretionary income to watch the games (although from what I know, people are having a hard time unloading tickets for half face value at this point - you can get tickets for ten bucks right now for the next couple games), the fans have every right to boo and heckle. If the players don't understand that, they shouldn't be playing at the D1 level. This is a major sport in this country, on the same level as the major pro sports, and the players and coaches should get that. I bet they do in markets with real college football teams.

My issue is that there are basically 3 explanations as to what is going on this year:

1.) Team does not have the talent level we thought that it had
2.) Team is poorly coached despite being talented
3.) Team is talented and coached well, but has quit on the coaching staff

Unfortunately, none explanations result in Brewster continuing to be the coach. It really is that simple.

Are you still mad about me calling you out on your "Texas knowledge".

You will have to refresh my memory on what you called me out on specifically? Please share with us some more of your knowledge on the future successes of gopher football, after all you were an offensive coordinator and the rest of us were not so we could clearly not see what you could see in the future successes of Tim Brewster. Shouldn't you be preparing for a game or something then instead of on a message board with us uniformed fans.

I don't coordinate anymore. In fact I just recycled a box full of play books. If I would have known you were so interested I could have saved 'em for you. There are comedians out there who make fun of people like me who love to live their life doing things with their kids now. I'm pretty much the example they use.

Is it frustrating that I can articulate a play from a coaching stand point? Are you saying that you would rather people like me not post?

Not at all and I hope that you do continue to post as it makes it more interesting to get differing view points. I didn't have to be an expert in X and O's to make my decision about Brewster, it was based on my own interactions with him and the actions of those who were experts in the X and O's of the game. Those would be all the coaches and A.D.'s who deemed him not fit to be a coordinator much less a head coach after 17 years in coaching.

Actually, it's a level lower than the pros.

Actually, it's a level lower than the pros.

In terms of attendance, it's actually quite a bit more for NCAA football. No NFL teams have 100,000 seat stadiums (well, maybe Jerryland, but that's it) selling out every week. I bet TV coverage is close to, if not quite equal to the NFL.

Still as dedicated to the Maroon and Gold as Selleck is to mustache.
