-PG Cory Joseph (Las Vegas, Findlay Prep), Minnesota's top target in the 2010 class, is still seriously considering the Gophers, according to a new interview in DIME magazine.

"Minnesota's really cool and obviously, they've got my brother there," he told DIME's Jason Jordan. "I really have a lot of respect for Coach Smith and I really like the players.

"When I went for my visit, I had a good time with everyone. I'm not saying that they have an extra edge because they have my brother, but that is attractive to me. I mean, he's my brother! In the end though, I'm gonna do what's best for me. But they're definitely one of the schools I'm looking hard at."

One source close to the team said recently that Joseph told Gophers coaches that Minnesota's one of three finalists for his services.

Love to have him, but think he would have committed to us already if that was his plan. Saying the right things and stretching it out to give his bro a little credibility. At the end of the day he will end up at Texas or UCONN. I hope I'm wrong.....

Joseph

Texas has a ton of young guards there already. UCONN could be the one the Gophs have to watch out for.

If he knew for sure where he was going to go, he'd already have come out with it. I'm sure he is leaning towards one of the programs, but hasn't made up his mind for sure yet. Probably waiting to see how the year plays out, and enjoying the ride as it goes. Right now, I'm guessing he's a little preoccupied on his senior season.

Let's hope the source is Devoe.

Saying the right things and stretching it out to give his bro a little credibility.

What "credibility" is him waiting with his decision giving Devoe? If he chooses somewhere else will you think less of Devoe? I'm confused.

Not really surprised that the Gophers are one of the teams that Cory has as one of his "finalists." I pretty much expected it after having already reeled in Devoe and also knowing that Devoe and Cory's mom really likes Tubby a lot. Whether or not he ultimately becomes a Gopher or not remains the question. But it would certainly seem that the Gophers rank very highly on Cory's list.

I think if anything, he'd take longer to commit here than anywhere else. I know if it were me I'd want to be extra sure I wanted to be here because that's what I want and not because my brother is there

That would be sweet if he came here. We could really use him the next couple of years. Keeping fingers crossed...

Look on the bright side. How would this look for an incoming class next year.

Corey Joseph
Hollins
Eliason
Trevor
Royce

Forgive me if I'm wrong... but I thought I read somewhere that Cory has narrowed his choices down to a place where he has a "connection"... His best friend is at/going to Texas... and his brother is obviously a Gopher... so wouldn't that make it between the U and Texas?

If Texas has a ton of guards, which they do... then Minnesota becomes the obvious choice when it comes to playing time.

I don't think that he announced that officially but I definitely saw it in an article...

Seems like it (CJs statements) should bode well for our chances to land him.

Going to Minnesota could make travel a lot easier on his parents... if that's a factor at all.

It will all come down to Devoe and how he is feeling about Minnesota at the time Cory is ready to decide. If Devoe is happy and likes the direction of the program and his and potentially Cory's place in it the next few years, the odds are very good he will be a Gopher. Texas has always been the main competition, one issue there is how long will his buddies Bradley and Thompson be there.

Right... along with playing time... Texas ALWAYS recruits the top guards in the nation... year in and year out. It may be a good experience for Cory (in terms of maturation) to battle against the best for a starting job in Texas, but at Minnesota, he'd almost be guaranteed a spot in the starting 5.

I don't think he starts over Nolen next year, but definitely a major factor.

I think he'd be in the mix with his brother, Hoffarber, Williams, and Hollins for PT at the 2 and wing. Nolen will get his 20-25, but there's still 15+minutes to be had for Cobbs, his brother, and him if he comes this way. With Damian Johnson and Lawrence Westbrook will be leaving some big minutes and opportunities to be filled.

i think he still has a chance to start with Westbrook leaving...
He could be a more athletic version of Blake... it would be interesting to see how Tubby would juggle that lineup... I think he would be too good of a talent to be able to keep off the court

It's more about minutes then starting for Tubby. The way Blake and Nolan have established themselfs this season, it would be unlikely they do not start as seniors. That being said, Cory could still start in the three guard lineup or get his 25+ mpg off the bench if he's as good at the next level.

The possibility are endless;
Ideal; Al, Blake, Royce, Trevor, Ralph. (Sounds more like a bowling team).
OR
Nolan, Hoff + one of [Cory, Devoe, Carter or Williams], White + [Mbakwe or Sampson] w/ DJ gone, Carter's size and versatility could gain the most minutes if White and/or Mbakwe aren't with us next season.

I hope Corey decides to join Devoe at MN, but I have a bad feeling he will join his buddies in Austin, TX. He has to be impressed with the way the Longhorns are playing this year.

I'm not sure who to fear most from Cory's previous comments. A top program like UCONN who gets players to the NBA or his friends at Texas and the coaching staff who he got downright giddy about. We are in the mix and have a 30-some +/- percent chance for a top recruit, not bad.

I like these guys, but who wants to go into next season with Nolan, Blake, Devoe, Carter and Sampson? Royce White is most important to next season, a close second is Cory Joseph and third, Trevor Mbakwe.

Johnnygopher hit it on the head. Does Devoe like playing for the gophers, and will he recommend it to his brother? Devoe has not been playing a lot lately and hasn't been playing that great, either. It will be interesting. Devoe hasn't really grown very much and matured as a player while his contributions to this team have stagnated. Certainly it is not helping us lure Corey, me thinks.

Devoe just hit a sophomore slump. Al had one, Blake had one, its nothing new. I predict he will be much better next season

With our style of play, Nolen and Cobbs still being around, and Devoe's struggles, unfortunately I think you're right, but "he would have committed to us already if that was his plan" makes zero sense to me. Wouldn't the same be for other schools? Why hasn't he committed to Texas or UCONN? I guess that must mean he isn't going to one of those schools either. Idk, maybe I'm missing something.

Lip service

I still think it's mostly lip service, just like Harrison Barnes. Says all the right things, but he'll go to one of the bigger name programs.

And Johnny makes a good point. If Devoe for some reason isn't happy or doesn't like the amount of PT he's getting from Tubby, you can bet he'll convey that mesage to his brother. Hope that's not the case.
