We'll have to get our Gopher Bball fix from someone else, because Myron is moving on to bigger and better things at ESPN and their newest college basketball reporter.

I really didn't like Myron when he first started out 4 years ago, I thought he was terrible and longed for the days of Jeff Shelman. He knows this, I have told him that to his face, and agrees he had a lot to learn. But just like with any new job, there's a learning curve, and Myron got better everyday. He became a really terrific beat reporter, which is why ESPN snatched him up.

On a personal note, I'm happy to say I've become friends with Myron. He really knows a ton about Gopher and college basketball, and if you ever have the chance to sit down and chat with him, it really is a pleasure. He's a great guy, Dad and husband, and our loss is ESPN's gain.

I wish him the very best, and hope is replacement is as wonderful to work with as he was!

My initial reaction: Is this April Fool's Day?

My second reaction: Congrats, Myron.

My third reaction: Seriously? Myron?

Wow.

Myron is a hack and will fit right in at ESPN with all the other talentless hacks they have reporting. I heard the STrib was going to replace Myron by creating a twitter feed of some the Gopher BB players. It's free and contains the exact same information that Myron regurgitated and called news. Good riddance to you...please put in a good word for Doogie so he can take it on the road as well.

Wow. I'll bet you were one of those Philly fans throwing snowballs at Santa.

Congrats Myron! Looking forward to reading your articles on ESPN!

Good for him, but when hearing about this, the first thing that came to mind was "The only way to get rid of a bum is to promote him."

I honestly never liked Myron as a beat guy, mostly because it seemed like he never worked. Marcus Fuller is constantly tweeting about the football AND basketball teams and offers interesting insight and will even respond to tweets (I've had numerous conversations with him on twitter). I never even thought to search out Myron's articles/tweets because it seemed like he never had any breaking news or inside story. Is he going to be like an Andy Katz type that writes articles and is on TV? When I first read this I was thinking maybe they were going to have conference blogs like they do for football, which would be pretty cool.

Probably the blog route like Rittenberg, Katz was nationally known for his reporting on the Fresno State scandal before being hired by ESPN.

I wonder if ESPN did their homework on Myron because he's got a pretty controversial and ignorant past as a writer.

Controversial can be a good quality for a writer. Controversial AND ignorant...not so much.

Isn't that every philly fan?

Actually, I think the snowballs and santa booing were separate incidents.

You are correct sir...although I wasn't stuck living in Philly when those incidents occurred. My dislike of Myron has nothing to do with me living in Philly and everything to do with Myron being a lazy, untalented beat reporter.

Trib should hire a journalism student intern and have them follow the team all year and drench us with team stories. If Trib finds a good student writer and Tubby enjoys the publicity would be fun to read locally and nationally as the Gophers win more.

I'm hoping for the best. Cross our fingers that the Strib will hire someone of Jeff Shelman's quality and knowledge of the sport of college basketball..

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Myron is gone! More reason to read yahoo sports.

A lot of haters out there haha. Congrats to him, it's a good opportunity. I'm rather neutral about his writing, not a huge fan, but don't hate it either. Obviously they saw something they liked.

I have no idea what your day job is, but you should apply! Seriously, Myron started off horrible and become below average. I hope they do better this time around.

I think he was at his best in the "live blogs," or whatever they call it, when he took questions on gopher hoops for an hour every week online at the strib in season. He was knowledgeable, smart, sarcastic when necessary, kinder to some of the dumbass questioners than necessary. He was more plugged in than is recognized, but maybe a little too respectful of Tubby's track record. He followed a guy who was way over qualified, but ESPN doesn't hire idiots. All in all, a B+ without grade inflation. Congrats to Myron on the new gig!

Yeah he was great at stealing material from GH and answering his own questions.

but ESPN doesn't hire idiots. All in all, a B+ without grade inflation.

I'm sure they have given plenty of idiots a chance for peanuts and canned their asses when they weren't up for the job. D-.

I know people at the strib who have worked with him and think highly of him. Why would he leave a good job for "peanuts?" It's not as of the GH material is all that terrific, insightful, worth stealing, etc. I never read anything from him that came from GH that wasn't cited. The GH stuff was very, very infrequent.

I'm guessing his contract was up. He explored his options, and ESPN hired him. Doubt he was canned, and I doubt this is some sort of coup by the folks in bristol.

Now his big pal aye? I most liked your story ripping him about his support of Kevin Payton. I also know people at the stib and press that think little of him.

Why would he leave a good job for "peanuts?"

Good job? The reason one would leave a job that pays peanuts for another position that pays peanuts is opportunity, the big stage, it's ESPN stupid. The same reason talented individuals worked for Frank Lloyd Wright for nada.

I wish him well but ever since he wrote that ridiculous article on 8th grader Riley Dearring for the Strib, I've questioned his judgment and motivation. That piece did more harm to that kid than I'm sure he'll ever admit.

Can't say that I'm his big pal since I never met him. I thought that, overall, he did good to very good work. You obviously disagree strongly. As a gopher fan, you won't have to read his work anymore. Working for ESPN is a step up but it doesn't compare to working for Frank Lloyd Wright. There are probably six to ten sports media outlets comparable to espn.com. There was only one Frank Lloyd Wright.

Frank Lloyd Wright.

Le Corbusier & Mies van der Rohe were on Wrights level, as were others. ESPN is to sports reporting what Wright was to architecture. Arguably one of the best, but there is room for debate

.

Point being it's worth a shot for Myron to go to ESPN even if there was no pay raise (who knows). It's a good opportunity, he could make it big. Although I think it's more likely they realize he is terrible.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't saying that there was only one architect.

I guess you got me on the architect analogy because I've never heard of the other two guys. Anybody else on GH ever heard of them?
