Class of 2014 Offer

Reid Travis got an offer from Boston College.

I don't know this kid, I don't know his family, so maybe I'm missing something, but nothing I've seen or read about this kid would explain why people wouldn't root for this young man? I wish him best.

For the "alternative jersey" point, it sounds extremely far fetched, but is 100% true. I went to multiple games where I had certain parents talking to themselves "why is that kid wearing a different jersey". It may not have been a Vikings jersey, it didn't have the Vikings logo... but it was not a CDH jersey, different shade of purple and was noticeably different from every other jersey.

I think what you are referring to is his actual B-Squad jersey. I've noticed a few kids with a slightly different shade of purple at the games and they were all SOs. That's just my guess, either way, it's a huge difference from wearing a purple Vikes jersey.

Agree with you on JV vs B-squad, just wanted to point out that Rhoda did play JV as a sophomore, "RJ3" didn't. IMO, the coaches obviously view them a bit differently, whatever that may be.

It really means next to nothing. As I said earlier, I'd imagine that the B-Squad would actually beat the JV. For positions like QB, yeah, sometimes a SO will play JV instead of B-Squad, but that is entirely due to the fact that they had two QBs in that class who they want snaps. For instance, Joe Mauer played a full season of B-Squad football while in 10th grade and he was the best QB in the school. I wouldn't read much into the difference between JV / B-Squad and try to find a correlation with how the coaches look at RJ3. It often has things to do with the upper classes. Last season, Cretin dressed 3 JR Qbs (including Rhoda), two of them were playing in the JV games. If a JR QB isn't getting PT, he is going to play JV not B-Squad.

And agree on your last paragraph is well. I want to make it clear, I have never seen him play and am no means trying to say he is talentless... just from everything I have heard/ read, etc this is ALL hype. The quotes out there are laughable and clearly show someone is driving/buying the recruiting hype "Joe Mauer and Chris Weinke have pegged as the next big thing at CDH QB", etc etc.

I just would sit back and see what happens with the kid. It seems like people are coming to conclusions on both sides of the fence about the kid way too early. His family has sort of brought that on with their tapes and all of that stuff, but at the end of the day, we'll find out. The internet can be long a national game of telephone and you see it with the "good" and the "bad" about this kid.

Very impressive that Reid Travis picked up an offer from BC. Class of 2014 is off to a good recruiting start!

I totally forgot he played football. I remember reading he quarterbacked DeLaSalle's B-Squad or something as a freshman.

Jeff Jones picked up an from Michigan State. Validates his legitimacy as a BCS back! It has been awhile since Minnesota had a running back with two BCS offers.

Lamonte Edwards. Although I and others always thought he would be better on defense, my guess is that at least a few teams thought he could play RB.

Roderick Williams and KJ Maye did, and both will be on campus in 23 days. Last year, David Cobb did as well. In 2010, Donnell Kirkwood had multiple BCS offers. All 4 running back recruits in the last 3 years had multiple BCS offers.

Believe he means a running back from Minnesota.

Should have clarified from Minnesota indeed. But was quickly corrected by "prof" that Lamonte Edwards did have offers from Wisconsin and Iowa.

Can anyone explain the d1 offer to Hawaii rj3 received? He's barely played at all through 5 games and has basically 0 varsity exposure. Why would a d1 school offer an overhyped less talented backup before somebody like Rhoda, the starter with 2 years varsity experience. Rhoda has an offer from North Dakota so far but no D1 offers.

They probably got some tape or saw him at a camp. Unfortunately, high school accomplishments are secondary to those things.

That said, if he continues to be a non-factor, they'll likely pull the offer. It's super early.

Boy, that RJIII kid sures looks good from Cretin. Where's all the hype now Bob? 5'10" 153lbs 2012 stats are 2-4 15 yards and 1 TD. Are the Gophers still interested?

I was at the Gophers Junior day camp this past July and "RJ3" wasn't even close to the best quarterback there. Good athlete, but sooooooo over hyped. The best QBs there were an outstate kid and the Andover QB. Hands down.
