The stories started on Monday but the formal announcement was yesterday. The NJ.com story that broke the news on Monday stated that he had been a candidate here. It's not altogether clear who rejected who. I expect announcements on the coaches Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ha, I played in a VFW State Baseball tournament in Keewatin...1964
 



Long gone by then....but remember little league ball in the early 50's!

Bart Miller from Florida Atlantic might be the Gophers new OL coach. He's being followed on Twitter by the guys in charge of all 3 pay sites. Miller took over the OL coaching duties at Wisconsin in 2012 when Bielema fired his OL coach during the non-conference portion of the season. Miller then went on to coach the OL at New Mexico State in 2013 before moving on to Florida Atlantic to coach the OL there in 2014 and 2015.

I knew Gino's sister when she and family lived in Alexandria.
 

Is it possible a candidate for OC or Oline may not be able to sign a contract until after the first of year? Let's say they were on a staff and would lose some form of compensation or would negate their contract?

I'm just hoping it's because they want to surprise me. I'm holding out for top 3 OC Salary in Div 1 though...
 


TC probably just doesn't want his players thinking about, talking about, etc anything other than the bowl game. Hard to focus on your film time if you're busy ruminating about who your new coach is, what he's like and how your life will change.

At Florida Atlantic
Miller took over a 2014 line that returned just one every day starter. Miller's opening day line was left tackle Reggie Bain, a true freshman, left guard Mikingson Marsaille , one of squad's biggest players who had seen limited action the year before due to injury, senior Braden Lyons, a senior moving from right end to center, a position he had never played, redshirt-sophomore Dillion DeBoer, who had started the final six games of his freshman campaign, at right guard, and senior Eric Minemyer, who drew his first start after switching back and forth to tight end. By season's end, 11 guys had seen playing time, Bain earned freshman All-America honors by 247Sports.com, and true freshman Joe Gold had served as the center in seven games allowing Lyons to move back to his natural spot at right tackle. The unit better known as the "Atlantic Wall" blocked for 10 different ball carriers who amassed 1,962 yards, just shy of the program record setting 2012 campaign. Quarterback Jaquez Johnson threw for a career high 2,215 yards and 17 TDs. In the first season under Miller, the Owl quarterbacks were brought down 21 times in 806 opportunities. Holding opponents to just 21 sacks was a five year low.


At New Mexico State
Bart Miller created a new offensive system for the Aggies which yielded 34 points per game and an average of 300 yards per game while rushing for 180 yards per game through the squad's last five games. He took over a line that had allowed 45 sacks and improved that protection by more than half to just 20 in 400+ opportunities. The 2013 line averaged 23 knockdowns per game. His center was named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List and two offensive linemen earned a spot on the All-Independent Team.

At Wisconsin
As the offensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin, Miller was named one of the Big Ten's Best Assistants in 2012 by ESPN.com, after taking over an offensive line in September that ranked 103 nationally in rushing averaging only 101 yards per game, and finished 12 in the nation, averaging 237.8 yards per game and 5.2 yards per rush. (265 yards per game in conference play). He helped guide the Badgers to their third-consecutive Big Ten Championship and earned a berth to their third- consecutive Rose Bowl.

The Wisconsin run game set the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 all-time single game rushing performances in school history (564 yards vs. Indiana, 542 yards vs. Nebraska, and 467 yards vs. Purdue), as the offensive line paved the way for All-American and Doak Walker Award winner Montee Ball to break the NCAA career touchdown record (86), and finish seventh nationally in total rushing, including three 200-yard individual rushing performances.

Miller coached NFL draft picks and 2012 All-Big Ten honorees Ricky Wagner, Ryan Groy and Travis Frederick, while helping to re-establish a physical standard of excellence throughout the unit - resulting in 586 total knockdown blocks in 13 games and four games with over 300 yards rushing in 2012. The Badgers were one of the least penalized teams in the nation, ranking 5th in penalties against and 4th in turnovers allowed.

In 2011, as a graduate assistant for the Badgers, Miller worked directly with the offensive line and tight ends, helping lead one of the best offenses in the country, averaging 44.1 points per game, 470 total yards per game and 235.6 rushing yards per game. He coached and worked with NFL first and second round picks, All-Big Ten honorees and All-Americans Kevin Zeitler and Peter Konz, Heisman Finalist Montee Ball, and NCAA record holder and NFL starter Russell Wilson. The Badgers were Big Ten champions in 2011 and participated in the 2012 Rose Bowl. Miller helped guide all five starting offensive linemen to receive either All-American or All-Conference honors.

Prior to Wisconsin
Worked primarily with the offensive line as a graduate assistant for New Mexico State. Prior to joining the Aggies, Miller served in the front office of the Chicago Blackhawks of the NHL.

Playing Career
Miller was a starter and two-year letterman for the University of New Mexico Lobos on the offensive line, earning Academic All-Mountain West Conference honors as a junior and senior. A part of four bowl teams, Miller played right guard for the 2007 UNM team that had a 1,000-yard rusher, two 1,000-yard receivers and a 3,000-yard passer. The Lobos finished the season 9-4 and won the school's first bowl game since 1961.

Bart Miller seems intriguing. Any indication on the scheme he runs? I would guess it would just be the same one we ran under limegrover, as Miller was a Wisconsin guy
 

Seems most of the o line gurus have expressed a wish for more of an ability to run outside zone like Wisconsin (or anyone...including Mason's undersized cut blockers of yore). There seems to be some question on whether we currently have the guys with the preferred mobility (ducks head).

Opinions...?

miller seems like a good up and comer. Gotta trust Claeys.

Is this the guy that took over when when Butt Head fired his new OL coach after Oregon State held them to 35 yards on the ground in an upset of the #13 Fadgers?

I believe so yes. So he has about 1 year of big ten OL coaching experience.
