Andre McDonald, a 6-foot-3 junior wide receiver from Minnetonka (Minn.) Hopkins, has received a scholarship offer from Minnesota and will attend the Gopher Junior Day this weekend. McDonald was the lone junior to be named as an Associated Press All-State first team offensive selection. McDonald, who also plays basketball for the Class 4A #1 ranked Royals, is one of the top recruits in the Class of 2012. GopherHole.com recently caught up with McDonald to learn the latest on his recruitment and his Minnesota offer.

Andre's first choice is definitely the U of M...he is excited about the new coaching staff and has said he is "going to play for the Gophers" in 2012. Of course, this could all change over the course of the next year, but things are looking good for Coach Kill's staff in regard to AM. Pat Poore should make him a priority. If he wants to play for the Gophers and we don't end up signing him, then something went wrong on the U's end. Get it done.

Love to hear it! Would be nice to lock him up early to gain some momentum with the MN kids of 2012

well we offered him a scholarship before his junior year of high school was over...I think the idea of him not being a priority should be thrown out the window. Hopefully he ends up being a gopher.:cool02:

13,

Is Andre just going to wait a bit before committing then? I think he was either their first or second scholarship extended to a 2012 recruit, so there really isn't a question about where he is as far as a priority. Sounds like the staff thinks he would be a big play maker in their offense and is a high priority recruit.

We need a kid like Andre to pull the trigger early so the other MN kids follow. If AM committed we would have 2 of the top 5 MN kids for 2012 (Rallis already committed), so it would be a nice start and probably weigh in on the decisions of kids like Webb, etc.

Can't wait to see AM in maroon and gold!

Think he is just being smart by not committing right away. From his perspective, it can't hurt to wait. The Gopher offer will always be there. Why not wait and see what happens? He knows what he is doing. Good support group there with Minnesota ties.

Why not wait and let the possible other offers come in so the highly prestigious rivals and scout ratings that some people place so much emphasis on around here go up therefore qualifying him as a "great get" instead of the Tommy Olson effect happening where you are underrated due to the offer list because of committing too early! ;) Just kidding, here's to hoping this kid rocks the home state maroon and gold down the road!
