What happened to Buggs? 6 points in the last 5 games, averaging 6 minutes a game on a team with no front court depth.

He just has a lot to work on still. A perfect example was in the St. Mary's game, he hedged on a pick and roll but left too early and the St. Mary's guard drove and got an and-1. He was taken out right after that and didn't see the floor in the 2nd half I don't think. King has his shortcomings but he's been very solid and reliable the past few games, with Buggs it's an adventure and usually not a good one.

If Oto was healthy, Buggs would not be playing.

I thought Buggs would be in the rotation from day one, just because he's a potential mismatch. It's too early to give up on him, but you can't keep putting a player out there where it's always an adventure. I think he maybe one of those guys who athletically can play in the B1G, but mentally can not. Patience wears thin on those types very quickly. He's not versatile enough to play the 3, or tough enough to play the 4.

Buggs looks lost out there. Keep him on the bench as much as possible and hope something clicks over the off season.

If you have not noticed we would have lost the last game if King didn't show up huge.

Did you actually watch the game?

LOL yes. Dre played like ****. He is our leader and go-to player. We usually lose when he plays that bad. King luckily stepped up his game and hit some big shots. Buggs was not the reason King had to step up.

Are you arguing that it was Buggs fault we almost lost that game?

Not at all. If King did not step up big their was a good chance we would have lost that game. King is going to be playing 30+ minutes the rest of our games, Buggs can just come in to give him a quick breather.

Buggs was one good game from being asked to transfer. I still doubt he is here for another three years. He can't play imo. I have given up on him. A prep school guy to start with he should have been ready to help out with our lack of depth and talent this year . Strength he can gain but basketball IQ, by now he should know what is going on.Hope I'm wrong.

I'm not ready to give up on him, but it's a fair point to note it's not just because he is a freshman. He is not a typical freshman, prep school + his readshirt year he should be more ready to contribute.

Love how people continue to say "he's lost" and that he has a poor "basketball IQ". Pitino has said this isn't the case. Buggs' biggest issues are confidence and putting on and maintaining weight.

No idea his hoops IQ, he looks out of position, his help defense needs work and loses his man often. DJ played the #4 extremely well hovering around 200lbs+/-.

This.

Which I think is attributed to "he's lost" look. He has severe confidence issues. he was more more "with it" when he was hitting his jumpers. I would love to see him come in and be aggressive for the 5 minutes he gets in the first half. If it's falling, keep rolling with him for spurts, if it's not use the quick hook. His upside, as we've seen, is worth keeping on the roster. By no means should anyone give up on him. Think about Andre Ingram and how long it took him to look comfortable out there. Buggs' upside is sooo much higher than Ingram's was.

DJ played for another coach and was about 2 inches shorter than Buggs.

This is not a knock on the kid as a person but as a B1G basketball player whether the issue is understanding what to do, being physically capable of doing things or being confident, if you're not able to get it done you either need to figure it out or get used to the bench. Buggs DOES look lost at times and if it's just a lack of confidence that has him unsure he still needs to figure it out because his play is below the level needed to be at this level. As mentioned this kid is 3 years out of high school and can't be counted on to regularly be in the right position defensively. That's not ok and honestly does a coach really want to spend the time to get a kid to the basic level when you can likely bring in a frosh that does what you ask?

DJ was completely lost until his junior year, give Buggs more time.

Lack of confidence might be a better way of putting it. A swagger at high level athletics is a must.

Are you saying Buggs weighs 220? He's right around 200.

I'm saying 215ish. Wait, did you weigh him coming out of the shower?

_____ PP article 27 days ago _______

That wasn't going to cut it for a power forward in the Big Ten. When this season started, Buggs was up to 205 pounds; he now weighs 214. It will be another offseason before he can get to where Pitino wants him physically, but Buggs said he already feels better.

"It's helped my confidence a lot more," he said. "Especially going down the lane and bodying people. You have more body control because everybody is more physical down low."

"We told him you got to be above 213 because he was dropping a little weight," Pitino said before the Illinois game Feb. 19. "Anything over that is probably unrealistic because we practice almost every single day, so he's burning so many calories. Hopefully, by the offseason -- by next fall -- he'll put on 15 to 20 pounds of muscle."

So you are saying you know what weight he has to be at to be effective? Sounds like to me Pitino needs him to put on more weight. I'll trust Pitino.

Wait, I thought you just confidently said he weights 200lbs...?

No, just saying if he weighs 215ish right now, it's not ideal, but far from the only reason he doesn't play much.

Wait, I thought you just said he weights 200lbs...?

I knew he was having trouble keeping the weight he gained coming into the season. I couldn't remember how much it was, but I knew he definitely wasn't at 220. Who knows what he is at right now. Point is Pitino needs him to gain weight. You said he didn't because DJ didn't weigh more. I'll trust Pitino.

Apparently you do.... Another GH that makes $hit up as they go.

Like you? You said he was 20 points heavier than DJ. Buggs was in Pitino's dog house after the FSU game because he wasn't making weight. It's been a struggle for him. Which is why Pitino wants him to focus on it. But according to you he doesn't need to gain any more weight. I'd like to hear more about that, because I think Pitino knows more than you.

And Pitino said he needs to put on more weight, 15-20 pounds of muscle. But you think he doesn't? If Pitino thought his current weight (whatever it may be) was sufficient, Buggs would be getting a lot more playing time. He is only playing as much as he is right now because there are no other options. Buggs has to put on more weight if he is going play PF. Damian was a great player and could defend multiple positions, but he was pretty much a SF that was such a great shot blocker that he could defend the 4. There were times where his slight frame and lack of height hurt him in the post. That is why Pitino wants Buggs at a higher weight. And as someone else mentioned, DJ did not produce until his junior year. So I would not write off Buggs yet, he could play a crucial role as early as next season.
