Changes coming to Gophers volleyball coaching staff?

Guessing better opportunities opened elsewhere, not that they were fired.

I don't know when it is an appropriate time for a HC to retire, but so far Hugh's decision certainly has not worked out for this Gopher Volleyball Program.

This new announcement is just another one of those not helping a new HC trying to rebuild a VB program. Maybe he played a role in both and then again maybe he didn't.

Either way these departures, coaches and players, will certainly play a role in recruiting right now.

The new assistants certainly didn’t help us win a bunch of games this past season?? Wish them well

People leaving Minnesota for better opportunities is a tale that I dislike hearing too often. It has a subtext of inferiority rather than accomplishment and achievement. Why can't Minnesota be a center of retained excellence?

Couldn't it be for a promotion? He didn't lose his top assistant.

There are only so many places you can go to be a top assistant at a power program.

I understand, but the on-going mantra around me is "get out of this state". It's not just contained to sports.

I like living here. Rare is the person who says they want to come back to Minnesota and give back. Even rarer is the person welcomed back.

This is just VT speculation, but it seems plausible:

could it be that the posting which caused all the consternation, is not actually meant to be advertising that the Gophers are looking to replace volleyball coaches??

"
Do we have confirmation that the other two are moving on?

I'm starting to doubt it.

1. It hasn't been acknowledged by anyone
2. The posting is weird, why would they post two jobs in one listing? That makes no sense if you need to fill two jobs, you'll need to remove it and relist it when you fill one.
3. The Twin Cities media is constantly snooping for any signs of strife within the Minnesota Athletic Department, and they've been quiet on it.
4. Neither coach has appeared elsewhere. I don't think KC would fire coaches after one year, so it would only make sense if they had left.

I would guess that there's some rule that if a salary adjusts more than X% then the jobs need to be re-posted or something.

^^ I do agree that point #2 seems odd. Why post two separate positions in a single job advertisement? This isn't the old days of putting jobs up in the newspaper. Plenty of digital "room" to give each actual posting its own ad.

Ben Johnson is one and all he gets on GH is crap. Just sayin.

So, any thoughts on if those two coaches actually are leaving??

Yes, they are both gone.
Can you cite a Tweet or Insta post, please?

You can’t cite the job posting, as it is in question. See post #9.

You can’t cite inside information because that can’t be verified.

If those coaches really are gone, which I’m not denying is possible, why haven’t they made a public thank you/goodbye message, as is warranted?

The word is that Pedro is returning to MN. He will really help our middle game.
“Help” will be impossible to meaningfully measure for 2024, as the level of middles who are going to be willing to transfer here to be nothing more than blocking specialists are going to be those like Husemann.

Hopefully Stella setting can show at least reasonable competence of setting a middle, unlike Schaff, and will help actual Big Ten level talent middles see that there is light at the end of the dark ages in Minnesota volleyball for the middle hitter in our offensive ideology.

I made a similar comment one time and got a negative reaction. Someone responded that coaches are not over one specific area of the sport.

However, I felt that Pedro being an outstanding National MB Player himself, was over our middle game and I too felt he had a lot to do with the progress of Booth's game and with the other middles Gros, Husemann and Davis. I believe we had probably our BEST MB presence in the BIG in all of Shaff's years here as our starting setter with Pedro on board as one of our Assistant Coaches.

Anyway, if this is so true, I am another very happy Gopher fan that Pedro is coming back.

Just posting what I have heard. If what I heard is correct, Pedro should be announced soon.

OK.

Still odd, and disappointing?, to have silence from the departing coaches??

None of these including true freshman Booth can hold a candle to Pittman.

Such a disappointment that she quit without using her last year.

But I get it. The grind of the Covid season, plus Schaff’s middle setting. I get it

Great hire.....I am a very Happy Gopher Fan to hear this updated news.

Wonder if either Pedro and/or the last assistant will be brought on in order to bring a middle transfer with them?

Wasn’t that basically how Awoleye came to be here from LMU with one of the assistants?

I’d like to see a former Gopher. Or at least someone local. The program could use a show of support and ties to its past.

I have no idea if she’d even be interested but Joy Tietz could return. CC? Morgan? Handley? I’m sure there are others.

McGraw would be a no-brainer, if she's interested in coming home and being promoted from a volunteer to a full-time assistant.

So, KCook probably won't do that, then.

The latest supposition based on Instagram follows (yeah, I know, 'good luck with that!'), points to Crissy Jones Schoonderwoerd as the next assistant coach. She played for Keegan at Washington and was the interim head coach at Cal last year. More info here
